Glad you are honest about your thoughts on the Rivera. I have owned quite a few riveras and I know exactly what you described. I have 2 I love and will keep forever, where others were meh. Now Paul and Jr are two amazing guys who I've chatted with on the phone a few times, and as you said, everything on these amps is deliberate.
I got a switched pot like that from TAD in Germany and sent to me in UK . That was the only supplier I could find . A £7 part cost the customer £25 . But it was the exact part , and it got a red knob Champ 12 fully functional again .
I really enjoyed my R55-12 while I had it ... but recoginize those quandaries about tones and settings that Lyle identifies. I was initially puzzled by the term "dated" (don't we play and love amps from the 50s?!), but the references to Boston and Satriani clarified. Thanks for this Rivera "series", Lyle!
PAUL Builds LOT of Options into the Rivera line with specific mid Scoops that are well worth the experimentation..... When you get the tone and Gain with the Pickups/Speaker(s) you love, the payoff is tastey ! i have only come half as close with cheaper amps using Wampler EQ.....
Well it not like fedex has a hub in Memphis or any thing . Just breaking in the caps for the road. Texas to Atlanta I usually do not have your fedex problems From Thailand to Atlanta the fedex air drive now knows me on sight. Been buying ic from factory direct only make sense in quantities above 100 . Nice video good perspective om use vs design .
Can't remember if I told this story already... The best amp I've ever owned was a Rivera R5512. A guy that lived down the hall from me saved my life one night. He loved music and playing guitar, didn't have very much money and was amp-less at the time. So I gave him my Rivera - it really wasn't being used much at the time, so I thought this would be a good home for it. I spoke with him few months later and he was absolutely loving it. Another few months down the road I found out he sold it! I don't know that I have a right to be upset about this... since at this point it was really his to do with what he wished. But it sorta stung. There's really no moral in this story, but rather a question.... Does a person really ever own enough good amps in their lifetime?
Depends,if he finds one,that hits his taste and feel.i own a lot of Rivera's, but also a lot of other tube amps.They all have their charme and sweetspot,but still quite different. To me,there isn't one and only,"The Ice Cold Tube Amp",but a lot ,who touch your sense.But with one great tube amp,you aren't lost.
@@PerryCodes i presume,with this "guitar neighbor",his intenties were quite skindeep.That happens to be with a lot of people,nowadays. You did nothing wrong,i guess you were very empathic towards him. Sometimes you have to experience to know,who's worth your attention.
Somewhere, there's a guy telling a story about an amp he was gifted for saving his neighbors life and unfortunatly he sold it and still regrets it to this day.

So if I have a Fender Concert from the Rivera era, would I find the same type of setup under the hood? Mine quit a few years back after giving off a sound akin to a high-pitched siren. A friend said I need to swap out a cap or two. I haven't touched it since. Found you courtesy of Phillip McKnight.

Not usually, but on Channel 2 if all the knobs are in, the core sound is very dark here. I wasn't explaining myself well there, sorry.

Fedex is so unreliable and blatantly terrible. I don't understand why vendors still use them.
