When UA-cam started out they had a cap of 10 minutes per episode. It wasn't strange to have a two or three part video of a subject. After they removed the cap was when there were 10 hour long videos of looped content. (Caramelldansen anyone?)
@@ralphmills7322 first episode were like in 2013, cap for verified accounts was long gone at that point. But algorithm still loved short videos as i remember
It's been a fun time watching this channel change and develop. It seemed at the start like you guys were just critiquing the toy with some science for how to make a better toy, but it didn't take long for you to pivot to using the toy as an excuse to provide more comprehensive dino facts and theories. This was a nice look back and what the channel started with, compared to what it's become.
I had this toy! As a child I just assumed that it wasn't supposed to be a dinosaur but some sort of weird quadrupedal predator from what was to me the vague and ethereal time before the great dying (it usually had to sit with assorted dimetrodons when everything got spread out on the floor).
To everyone involved, mistakes happen and honestly who cares? None of us were around that long ago! We're all learning and growing day by day. If we didn't have those traits we'd still be smacking rocks together! Good job to the team! Y'all are great and reintroduced me to paleontology, which was my "dream job" when I was little, and before Jurassic Park!
adding on the matter of ribs with spikes, there is another vertebrate with similar structures called Protuberum, a traversodontid cynodont from the Middle Triassic of Brazil. Protuberum's ribs did not bear spikes, but several nodules, something very odd, and we know that it's probably not pathological or any of that because there are several specimens from varied localities.
Thanks Steven and Liz. We are very grateful you continued the series. We look forward to the new uploads as more updated information becomes available. It is always fascinating to see how a long running YT channel has changed over the years. Especially the production values. The studio you built adds a lot, the original series looked like it was shot in the corner of a garage workshop.
I'm so excited for the reuploads now, knowing we'll be getting additional information! I'm also glad you weren't too harsh on the first episode - it takes experience to grow.
I can't believe it's almost been 10 years since this series started. I've learned so much about modern depictions of these dinosaurs that dino documentaries have only just caught up to (don't get me started on how Jurassic Park dinos are so far removed from science now that you can argue that these creatures are more fantasy than sci-fi). I hope you all keep up the good work as I look forward to another 10 years of Your Dinosaurs Are Wrong.
When you remake the Scelidosaurus episode will you be covering it's relationship in Thyreophora as well as with the more specific relationships with the other basal members of the group? I have always been fascinated with that section of dinosaur evolution and with the new discoveries of Jakapil and Yuxisaurus this year it seams we are getting closer and closer to having a clear idea of what the origins of Thyreophora was like.
YDAW needs to start its own toyline :) Could have them catalogued by year of manufacture... so when there's any new information about any particular dinosaurs that then shows your current line of said Dino as wrong, then you could release a new updated version of that toy.
Wow que sorpresa verlo a usted aquí! I mean, supongo que sería algo obvio ver a alguien tan involucrado con la Paleocomunidad aquí pero igual no deja de ser una sorpresa, saludos xD
I've been watching YDAW since the beginning and I am loving that you're bringing over the original episodes and adding corrections to them, this is great! Keep up the amazing work!
Dear YDAW, I've been a long-time watcher of your show since the old channel, and it's really cool to see how far you've come thus far! Here's something I hope you'll appreciate, maybe you already know about this: ever heard of WONDER Artistic Models? They're a small Chilean company making wooden 3D puzzles of paleofauna, they've gotten started only recently, however they're not anything like the rest. Their models are scientifically accurate to the bone, quite literally! If you haven't heard of them already, I suggest to check their website and/or UA-cam channel, you'll be impressed. And at long last, we can say there's finally somebody making scientifically accurate dinosaurs! Love your show and can't wait for the re-upload of Ep. 17 on Spinosaurus (my favourite dinosaur thanks to you!).
I actually had one of those toys (the two you showed in the update portion) and it was labelled as a Postosuchus; so that might explain the carnivore head.
My boy!!! I have that orange spiky dinosaur toy! :D I had it as a kid and he's still a part of my beloved dinosaur toy collection. In fact I had him sitting on my desk for a while before I fixed a good spot on my bookshelf for some of my favorite childhood dino toys. ...Not sure how he felt about getting second hand roasted though lol
Wow... I watch the older episodes a lot, but I did not really appreciate the difference until now. And just how long the old Geek Group ending was. It really says a lot that the second episode is nearly 3 times the length of the first one.
Interesting contrast between earlier and current video, I wonder if they might talk about scelidosaurus more in a future video? I mean, I don't want to guess, but I think I saw a few subtle hints that they might.
Ok, thanks God it's only light, for a second I was thinking that you are already going gray, but tbh it's adding to you that kind of authority of "wise, old man" (no offence ofcourse)
I thought watching video on this channel that you had started this series earlier and wondered if you had an old channel that got taken down for some reason.
Sometimes scientifically accurate reconstructions look awkward like the one in the first video. Not your fault you followed the science at the time. But the most recent reconstruction looks way more feasible as a living organism.
I know this is probably going to sound super harsh towards your past self, but you have made such incredible progress over the years. You feel so much more at ease in the way you carry yourself on camera now and I much prefer the more extensively researched and more in depth approach too.
When I was two years old my brother threw a spiked dinosaur at me. Caused me a small scrape. I think it was this Dino, but the mold that I remember had a lot longer spikes on it.
I have the same toy as that one from old video, and as a kid I didn't though that it supposed to be a Scelidosaurus. Because of its head I thought it was a some extinct crocodilian.
This isn't on topic, but I can't immediately find anything on the internet about this, and I despise twitter. This concept came up as I looking at Allosaurus (for a dnd game, of all things) and realized their teeth and jaws are fairly similar to Komodo Dragon teeth; small for the size of the animal, serrated back edges(allo gets front serration too). They even share the weak bite but strong skull characteristic. Is there any evidence that it could have had the same or similar septic/anti-coagulant/venomous bite as the Komodo Dragon or is a all just a case of convergent evolution for different goals?
Allosaurus only has a weak bite in comparison to Tyrnnosaurus rex. That is like saying a Domestic Cat has a weak bite, because it doesn't have the bite force of a Hyeana. Like Cats and Komodo Dragons, Allosaurus would have had more than enough bite force to rip into the thick skins of it's prey. That is what Natural Selection is all about, being good enough.
two question: 1) could sauropods use their tails as weapon? since in this video ua-cam.com/video/sJQE77syc_I/v-deo.html at 22:50 he said that if the sauropods did that, they would break their tails in the process 2) were sauropods coward like in pop culture or they could fight back?
You know what I'd love to see? Someone take plastic dinosaurs, melt them down, and make new, scientific-accurate versions of the same toys with the same plastic.
If you like our stuff, and would like to help us keep making it, please consider chipping in over at patreon.com/YDAW, or taking a look at our products at www.ydawtheshop.com, or by buying Steven a coffee at ko-fi.com/ydawtheshow . All proceeds go back into making the videos you see here!
I will use your dinosaurs at the end of the videos for my paleo art
P.s I love your content.
Aww, Young Steven is SO YOUNG!
I'm happy the episodes got longer not too far into the series, it's weird to see like sub 10 minute ones of the playlist.

original: “You can’t go too wrong with archosaur heads”
Update: “We have grossly underestimated the human ability to ignore accuracy…”

Fun Fact: Scelidosaurus is one of only two Dinosaurs that we have found fossils of in Ireland.

A remake of the first video of this series is gonna be AMAZING
Aaand it IS!
ikr

Good job to the team! Y'all are great and reintroduced me to paleontology, which was my "dream job" when I was little, and before Jurassic Park!
I think some people were around that long ago, 2012, not 1858,

Sometimes I close my eyes and pretend Ray Romano is teaching me about dinosaurs 😄
Best comment 😂
Stoked for this! These vids are definitely ripe for updates, and I need more YDAW in my life!
This is one of my favorite shows on the internet and I'm delighted to see these additions.
I cannot wait for stuff of the Ecology of this animal!
God I love this show. BARYONYX SOON PLEASE.

Rocking that Gendo Ikari look. Just need some gloves.

Love your channel so much - I also just find the process of correction and reinterpretation over time just as fascinating as the information itself
I am bizarrely fascinated by the blue raspberry mammoth on the shelves on the right.
Finally, I was waiting for updated videos, especially since they go all the way back to... holy cr*p, 2013?! Yeah, some part may need to be updated
Aww the nolstalgia!
Wow que sorpresa verlo a usted aquí! I mean, supongo que sería algo obvio ver a alguien tan involucrado con la Paleocomunidad aquí pero igual no deja de ser una sorpresa, saludos xD
always looking forward to more from this series. appreciate this installment so much ❤
This is awesome. I’ve been wanting to see corrections of the old episodes for so long. It feels so nostalgic to see young Steven.
Great to see thw old stuff moving over! Can't wait for more and the updated video for this animal
and I IMMEDIATELY stopped what I was doing to watch this.
Very cool. Glad to see that you've begun to consolidate all of these to the one channel. And I really liked the addenda/update.
I've been watching YDAW since the beginning and I am loving that you're bringing over the original episodes and adding corrections to them, this is great! Keep up the amazing work!
The idea of a Scelidosaurus walking on its hindlimbs is so adorable to me, i envision it as something similar to a pangolin
You deserve a lot more subscribers than you have for the amount of effort you put into these videos
Glad to see the original episodes starting to come home!
great way of bringing in the old episodes
Love your work
Will always enjoy these videos. Very informative and always provide more knowledge to my base knowledge on dinosaurs. Keep up the great work!
Since we are doing corrections and updateds to old videos, maybe is a good time to do the same with the _Spinosaurus_ episode!!
Yeah, probably like 6 of them from how it keeps updating lol
Finally, an update and remake of the original YDAW video!
Man, I love the old intro
thank you
Great idea!
Yeeeeeeeeeees! Yeeeees! Yeeees! Yes….Yes.
Yes

Dang I liked this! Kinda miss the shorter episodes once in a while
I actually had one of those toys (the two you showed in the update portion) and it was labelled as a Postosuchus; so that might explain the carnivore head.
man i remember watching the first ep like 5 years ago, good times
yay new video
I just realized that when you get to Spinosaurus it's going to a field day. . . .
My boy!!! I have that orange spiky dinosaur toy! :D I had it as a kid and he's still a part of my beloved dinosaur toy collection. 13:23 he goes from casual to angry so fast
Awesome.
Funny thing is now you could say the toy you used for scelidosaurus could be a Spicomellus instead
Interesting contrast between earlier and current video, I wonder if they might talk about scelidosaurus more in a future video? I mean, I don't want to guess, but I think I saw a few subtle hints that they might.
Wooooohooo they are back
Apparently that "Scelidosaurus-Minmi chimera" is Palaeoscincus
Yay!! Improvement!!!
Hoi!! :3 on your map i saw no dinosaurs on Antarctica, will you cover one that lived there? Like maybe the beautifully crested Cryolophosaurus?
Yes that would be great and super interesting

Chinasaur is an excellent choice of words…

Okay so every episode should be remade in 9-10 years time
I just learned through this that David Norman is still alive and publishing - I really was a fan as a kid^^.
A lot of his popular books and works have been translated into german, so they were accessible to little me
My cat died today, this video made my day a little bit better.
I thought watching video on this channel that you had started this series earlier and wondered if you had an old channel that got taken down for some reason.
I like the redo! Its like ydaw^2

Dang, Steve looked so young back then.
I guess you could say in the first episode your dinosaur was wrong
great episode! wondering why it had that convex bump on its head, ive seen iguanadon restored with it too, any reason as to why?
cool video
When I was two years old my brother threw a spiked dinosaur at me. Caused me a small scrape. I think it was this Dino, but the mold that I remember had a lot longer spikes on it.

10 years later!? My God...
I have the same toy as that one from old video, and as a kid I didn't though that it supposed to be a Scelidosaurus. Because of its head I thought it was a some extinct crocodilian.
Huh. Here I thought I’d seen every episode but I hadn’t seen the very first one
When I first started watching these I wondered when YDAW would need a "is wrong" attached to it. Lol
Growing up, I always thought that type of toy represented Edmontonia.
Interesting creature. Btw great video!👍
5:23 when is the full remake of the scelidosaurus episode are coming out (I’m assuming after the Giganotosaurus episode.)
The T-Rex plushy, camera right, that sounds like Godzilla was supposed to be returned to sender.
We want the next video on Spinosaurus
This isn't on topic, but I can't immediately find anything on the internet about this, and I despise twitter.

I really missed the toy intros
Can your next YDAW be Ceratosaurus? I feel like that Jurassic period species doesn't gets enough love.
Old school!
Please make your videos more often...I want soo much more! Do an azadarchid ! Do a deinocheirus!
You accidentally made it look angry
Definitely not sick of you saying it. I would be sad if you couldn't say it.
I can see why the name ended up being translated weird.
After all, it's all Greek to me.
If you can, please remake stegosaurus!
two question:
1) could sauropods use their tails as weapon? since in this video ua-cam.com/video/sJQE77syc_I/v-deo.html at 22:50 he said that if the sauropods did that, they would break their tails in the process
2) were sauropods coward like in pop culture or they could fight back?
Steven said that they would hurt their tails if they hit the Sound Barrier, not if they could fling them around like, say a Baseball Player.
how do i send in a dinosaur figure?
You can find our address in our video descriptions!
Would you ever make a video on avian dinosaurs? Like dodos?
Send in one so you can find out. I would choose the Marx Diatryma, personally. But I don't know where mine is.
HYPE
You know what I'd love to see? Someone take plastic dinosaurs, melt them down, and make new, scientific-accurate versions of the same toys with the same plastic.
