Lots of dislike for Affirm. But I wouldn't have a PC RN without them. I been using lending company's for years. My APR was lowest with affirm compared to any other lender. And its ez to pay and use. They let you choose if you want it to auto-charge or not ect. Its accessible on many many sites if not them then Sizzle is around on the others. If you use lending services. Ide say Affirm in my own anecdotal evidence is better then many others. And once you pay it off, You own it. And nobody can take it away from you or send you to collections if you don't pay once paid off.
Also it wouldn't be near as gross to rent a PC, if they gave you your moneys worth each month. But 250 bucks a month for a 2 year old PC is absolutely gross. And I smoke canna, So Renting for me is a no go. If they smelled it at all while returning it you bet they will say you damaged it. Apple does this already.
I mean, literally. Several industries have apparently become infested with narcissistic dickheads telling us what we want according to them, and then gaslight and mindfuck us when we reject their obvious bullshit and lame, terrible products that they blame us for releasing too. These nard CEOs can get bent homeless shelter "The customer is always right in matters of taste"
Big ups for supporting the Internet Archive; Easily one of the most important services available on the internet today, and I can say it's one of the things I'm most proud to donate to.
After how much we needed it for this piece, I think we will make it a regular group we support now. They have allowed us to dig things up that disappeared right before our eyes.
yeah be careful, sometimes companies and people will request that incriminating material pertaining to them or their actions are taken down and unfortunately the internet archive will buckle to that request. always archive this stuff yourself as soon as possible, too.
Not to mention how bad nintendo wants it down so people stop downloading switch emulators. They did a good job cleaning the internet of as many traces as possible. But you can still download from there. I've even wondered if Nintendo was behind the ddos. No joke. I'm sure not directly. You know, maybe a friend of a friend.
You're original video on the H1 is what showed me the importance of effective journalism and was the reason I started my career as a journalist. Thank you GN for holding scummy companies to account!
@@GamersNexus Seriously? That's awesome!!! I've said to thin air a thousand times Steve should TEACH Journalism and Journalistic ETHICS. He could teach mainstream media a thing or 2 (thousand). His parents raised an incredibly impressive son. Good Luck, AGW! (I just subbed to you, I'll be here on your journey.)
I can't get over the people out there who call pieces like this "drama" No, this is proper journalism. We need more of this not just on UA-cam out of the so-called professional print and televised media.
I hope you can make a good living on it. The world over needs FACTS based reporting, not the FEELINGS media cycle the world over has allowed. Best of Luck
Thank you Steve and your crew for standing up for the little guy who may not be aware of these incredibly slimy and disingenuous companies that will do anything for a quick buck and screw over anyone that doesn't know any better. Also, a backhanded slap to those so called "influencers" that are just as culpable as NZXT is. Whether at best they can claim ignorance or at worst being entirely complicit with NZXT's garbage business practices. I'm pretty sure they were paid quite well and knew of this horrid deal that they promoted to those who do not know any better. Thank you again for your honest report of this wretched company and hopefully you have shed light to those who may not have been aware of this rotten company and saved them from spending their precious dollars that they could potentially spend elsewhere for a much better deal.
I'm learning that the sponsors that pay the most are also usually the most rotten, because they know they'll be making a lot of money by shady or unethical practices. Zero shame and zero integrity from these influencers who sponsor them. I couldn't trust someone in real life, behind the scenes who sells themselves to such blatantly bad companies like this.
It sucks to see these scummy practices, but I am absolutely elated that you are EATING off of these investigations. Thank you for you and your teams work and I hope you all continue to be an amazing resource for the community and continue to be as successful as you have been lately!
The CEO revealing the type of card you used to pay right in his damage control tour, validating any concerns about their terms with data handling is just the icing on the cake.

@@GamersNexusno joke I bet there’s some best practice language being applied in damage control. I don’t know the legal implications of these words but I appreciate your pointed and intentional language in your videos. 2.3 million subs and you’re as true to your mission as ever.
Even if it is a custom build PC I put together earlier this year, I will say that had I known about these predatory practices by NZXT, I would not have chosen an NZXT case and would rather have considered Corsair or Deepcool....
“It’s not my job to do your homework”. Glad you brought that up, way too many people sit behind a camera and peddle garbage then say “well I didn’t know”, if they weren’t called out they’d keep taking that check.
whoa whoa whoa. lets not make this political by quoting a certain President elect, and his VP. no need adding GamersNexus to Ka$h Patels little black book.
"But it's not fair! I was just collecting thousands of dollars to mindlessly spew information. I shouldn't be responsible for the words that come out of my own mouth!" It's absolute trash. If you're endorsing something you have now tied it to your own brand regardless of how much you get paid. Maybe make sure the thing you're endorsing is something you actually want to endorse before agreeing? Some of these "influencers" have gotten too comfortable in their weird little bubble reality.
The argument that as a creator you shouldn’t be responsible for vetting the things you promote is either moronic or malicious. [edit] to be clear, I’m specifically talking about the creators who think that it’s not their job to vet the companies they promote (as was indicated by BlipTech in this video). If the creator does put reasonable effort into vetting the company but they find nothing questionable, or if the company has lied to them, etc. then that’s completely different and I’m not having a go at those people. In this case though, Gamers Nexus has shown there was lots of information available that made this product questionable at best. In the end they’re putting their name behind the products they promote, so then if that thing turns out to be a scam, they can’t then shrug off their association with it.
@@benstanfill363I think the main problem is the attitude that they shouldn’t have to more than whether they can do a thorough enough investigation or not.
It's beautiful in the same way that a toddler caught in a lie is beautiful. Ain't nobody buying it. It's incredibly lazy. But you know they're going to double-down on it anyway because they've used up all of their brain cells on this and there's nothing else to fall back on. But will they admit their mistakes? No way! Then they'd have to give the money back. Or something. They're fighting back against their last vestiges of personal integrity that they're choosing to ignore.
@@pirojfmifhghek566 you say "used up", which is pretty fu**ing charitable. They're influencers: they are, on average, pretty to look at and that's one of the only 2 requirements, pretty and entertaining. Neither of those requirements are filtering the results for the kind of brain power it takes to even notice their integrity is at risk during a product endorsement.

Dude admitted, more than once, during the JayzTwoCents interview that it was a bad deal. He knows what's what and has no qualms about milking unsuspecting people like cash cows. Since I'm a DIYer I wouldn't buy any prebuilt system anyway, BUT you can dam sure bet they'll never receive one dime of my money at the component level and I will go out of my way to steer people away from their ENTIRE product catalog. Companies like this need to be put out of business plain and simple.
Honestly, I don't even care that much about offering a ridiculous service to rich, lazy people. That is nothing new and if it's all it was most of us would just roll our eyes and move on. The problem is the absurd marketing targeting said demographics and partnering with a company whose primary goal is to get as many rental customers locked in as they can. The same company in charge of ID verification.
Yeah it's pretty obviously a bad deal so I was particularly surprised they were even trying something so downright evil. It doesn't take much to ruin the goodwill a company has with its customer base. Being so greedy against people that can't do math and can't afford ownership is hopefully going to be the death of this company.
This is why I tell every gamer I know to support Gamers Nexus. You not only learn so much from this channel, but GN actually stands up for the little guy. I bought a dice set to support y’all again after seeing the NZXT video. Thank you so much Steve for leading a consumer-first organization and doing these kinds of public services!
This channel is one of the few reasons why I open youtube. You rock! Please stay safe & keep up your good work, I really appreaciate it! Hope y'all have a wonderful end-of-year-period!
When a company does not take responsibility and uses the "YOU were confused. YOU were wrong." tactic, i'm staying away as far as i can from that company...
Well he is wrong, he is extrapolating prices which are meant to be short term rentals, to long term. So of course they are expensive, its like renting a car for 5 years then wondering why you paid them that much when you could have purchased the same car 5 times, its called renting..
@@BlackSlimShady not what he's doing, not the point of the video, not what he's attacking the response for. Best case scenario you're writing on behalf of the company but there's too much evidence out there or people ready to leap to the defense of companies like this for seemingly no reason...
@@BlackSlimShady Sigh... The extortionate pricing is only ONE aspect of all the scummy practices involved here. (In the original video, the rental is so expensive that Steve compared the cost to a payday loan or loan shark, with the added benefit that at least you OWN the computer at the end). There is downgrading model specs between purchase and rental models. There is false/lying advertising (claiming top flight spec for old hardware, claiming no contract, etc) There is buried in the T's & C's the option for NZXT to harvest, hold and use ANY personal information that they find on a returned computer (pretty sure this one violates EU GDPR rules). There is the extortionate fines for any damage. There are the claims of a "warranty" when it's a service agreement. Also, if your car lease payments mean you will have effectively bought the car many times over after 5 years, then I suggest you change lease company because you're getting fleeced.
To all the team in Gamers Nexus thank you for all your journalistic work. Many consumers are getting hurt by these money grabbing corporations. They have zero thoughts of how much damage practices like this can affect people who work hard to be able to afford stuff like this.
I wonder if NZXT actually watches Gamers Nexus (despite being a former sponsor). If so, they would have to know Steve would call out their BS ...again. They would have to know what happened to the last few "bad businesses" they tried this kind of thing. It didn't go well for those businesses. Keep it up Steve! One of the few youtubers with true journalistic integrity. It's sad that this is a rare thing these days.
The best part of all this is when they think they are doing damage control & it ends up causing them to get pwned even harder! Keep Pucking them up Steve - We love it!

"we were just as blind sided as all the consumers" - no my dude. Being "blind sided" is not the same as blindly repeating marketing talking points you've been provided with. You may not have had bad intent to mislead, but it is your responsibility to vet what you advertise. You have a certain authority as someone who is perceived as knowing his stuff and telling people what to buy, that's why they call you an "influencer". Esp if your audience includes minors, you should be aware of that responsibility and think about what you're telling them. Maybe you didn't mean to be complicit in this scam, you were just careless when you took that juicy ad money. Own it, learn from it and do better in the future.
They aren't actually sorry about anything else than getting caught. Just the kind of miserably shitty attitude you can expect from people who behave like those do.
They don't care, as long as they are getting paid. Now it's just little damage control, as usual. Though in most cases even that is not necessary. Just keep rolling.
The only way they'll learn is by getting bankrupted by the FTC. When it hurts their livelihood and freedoms, then they'll actually do something about it.
So uh... NOW they're definitely radioactive. They had a window. A very slim window to say "Sorry, we dropped the ball, we're suspending the rent programme while we look into the issue". Now that window is gone. This is the beginning of the end for them.
What I love so much about Gamers Nexus is not just that they are doing journalistic work that's very important for the consumer space. It's that they are not afraid to make fun of completely ridiculous statements made by companies if they are trying to Gaslight or similar. Steve really paints the whole picture in a very digestible manner.
Other journalists play nice and use professional language so they don't turn off companies from giving them access. Gamer's Nexus says whatever they want because they actually give a shit about the consumer instead of maintaining access.
In the interview with Jay it pissed me off so much when the CEO said that they were taking full responsibility, then later said “oh, that’s Fragile’s agreement, not ours” about the things in the contract
you see all the bot/paid comments under every top comment on that video, all saying similar stuff like "I used to like GN but Steve is sensationalist and overdramatizing" and "I dont know if I can watch Jay anymore after this"? Its crazy man, they are trying desperately to damage control this.
To be fair, every time he brought up Fragile he'd also back up and say "it's still our responsibility". To me this screams of messy misaligned partnership strategy clusterf#$%.
TY for continuing this. Companies such as NZXT know what they are doing and they have lawyers and a legal department that is literally there to guide things like language in an EULA.
content creator at the end was high as a kite when he posted that shit. An ad is like a marriage where the content creator turns into a business that marries another business. if one goes into hot water the other is right there with them.
I don't know, he's basically bashing the guy for not catching it before he did? I mean his response was dumb, he dug his own grave when he could have just accepted responsibility but I mean gamersnexus was running ads for them too for awhile. They just caught it first because they're actual computer experts. Even if they weren't it's still the same. I'd argue that if you can trash content creators then gamers nexus should be trashed too. Steve, as someone that previously had an H1 case, I wanna personally thank you for what you did. I talked about this a few times within your comment section and Jayz. I was a part of the NZXT subreddit when the first person reported their case caught fire. Members of that subreddit mocked said person for their lack of PC building skills. Everyone blamed said person for the fuck up. For people unaware, that subreddit has official NZXT employees that are mods and just normal mods, you can tell by the color of their flair. I was so shocked and disappointed NZXT employees responded the way they did. I said something to them, publicly, and my comments were deleted. Thankfully, when that person reported their case caught fire, I was within my return policy window. Unfortunately someone else came forward and said same thing happened to them. I immediately returned my H1 for a full refund. Because of you, so many people became aware of this issue. You potentially saved a lot of peoples lives because of this. I was always upset that you and Jay ran NZXT ads like that fuck up never happened. Maybe it’s your weakness to forgive and move on and maybe it’s one of my problems for not but I swore off NZXT over it. It’s so disgusting the CEO said you blew that out of proportion. I knew from that H1 fuck up, the CEO is a pos. Thankfully you did this investigation about NZXT. Hopefully soon they won’t exist, they don’t deserve to.
I have the original H1 and went through that riser cable process too... IN AUSTRALIA. I no longer use it because the AIO is a P.O.S. and it really wasn't cooling my PC adequately.
Honestly, as someone who's had a house fire myself in 2022 (not related to the H1), I am deeply outraged about the incident with the H1 case. That they would downplay it. Nothing happened to me during my fire, but it's still a traumatising event through and through, and the loss of some precious items I held dear still hurts. So it's really disgusting to hear how they've handled this incident. Together with the rent program and their response to being called out, well, there is nothing left to think of this company anymore for me other than that they are scumbags.

I work for an HVAC company and literally in the Mission AND Value statement we talk about doing right by the customer, being honest and having integrity. Now its an HVAC company so our prices are high because it is expensive to operate, but we are fair. Half the calls I ran yesterday I didnt need/couldn't charge for due to various reasons. The vast majority of our customers are happy with our services and usually stick with us long term. Let that be a lesson to Johnny, you can make a profit off your customers and have most of them be happy with you. Our company has tons of 5 star google reviews, we dont need to recycle 6 reviews. There are customers that will overpay, recieve a product and be fine. But those are always a small part of any market but clearly NZXT and the shitty company they partnered with are fine with taking every one of their dollars, instead of having a reasonable profit margin and more happy customers.
Dang, what multi-billion dollar HVAC company works like that? Oh, you mean some scrud small-time operation that's been stagnant for years with minimal growth? got it.

The fact influences aren’t taking the blame for the fact they didn’t freaking read what they were promoting truly summarizes the state of the internet today. Brother, you only have yourself to blame. Look into your sponsors ffs. “I see money, I take money, I read script (but can’t even adhere to it)”

To run a proper scandal-oriented interview, the interviewer has to pitch hard-ball. Jay's just a bit too gentle for that. Him being gentle is why I like him, but it does make him less than ideal for the task at hand. Companies know that, and that's why they go to him. Steve ain't afraid to pitch hard-ball, and that scares companies.

Quote from futurama when Zoidberg becomes a billionaire and gambles it all away: "This is why you never see poor people with billions of dollars" Being poor is a mentality. A lot of people spend their money on garbage instead of saving money. That includes me. Not everyone has the means or opportunity to rise above the level of "brokie", but a lot of people are just not willing to do what it takes to become rich. And I'm one of those people. Sometimes all it takes is one massive realisation and you're well on your way to become rich.
Something that Gamers Nexus missed out or did not cover. A component in the rental system breaks and needs to be repaired. 1)Is this onsite repair or return to base? 2)If return to base, who chooses courier and pays the fees for shipping? 3)If the system is shipped back for repair and is damaged further, does the damage in shipping clause come into affect? 4)If the system is away for repair and is not returned within 2 weeks, what rights does the customer have to stop payments? (Some parts can take months to be replaced.} I was going to ask on first video, normal distraction and never did. I had an issue like this with a Global company. Warranty claim was approved, here is the kicker, named courier had to be used and a certain service had to be used. This is to return a faulty items (2 PSUs failed within a week of each other 450w-£40 and 550w-£45), that may not be deemed as warranty fail. For me to send back was going to cost £80 each. No I did not sent back and still have them as a reminder. Old saying buy bad pay twice.
This is like asking if a loan shark threatens to murder your family, and you let him in your house, should you serve him dinner. Just stop. You already know it's a scam. You don't need to ask if the returns are a scam. They're going to be a scam. Because these guys are scammers. And yes, you would probably just have to pay everything yourself. I bet if you stop paying the monthly fee, even if your system is missing for 6 months. They'll just repo the unit. And keep charging you. For funnies.
Some global companies can be a bit scummy but I am happy to report that Google seems to be above board (or they have to be). I had a pixel phone that has swollen battery, I informed Google about this, and they sent me another phone, told me to recycle the current one. The fact that you doubled down on your "shut the fuck up" to NZXT - LEGEND.

They pulled a “We’re sorry you feel that way”.
At this point it's "We're sorry you caught us"

It's a bold strategy Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for them.

"We'd prefer not to experience consequences from this"

And so toxic, they may as well be a gas lamp with a thorium mantle
Apple does this already.
even though we left very little room for interpretation
It's true, I rented an NZXT then won a Fortnite tournament and was able to use that money to pay for a lawyer to sue them for false advertisement.

It screams no integrity
I've seen this with many creators who don't give a fuck about their sponsorships.

There is false/lying advertising (claiming top flight spec for old hardware, claiming no contract, etc)
There is buried in the T's & C's the option for NZXT to harvest, hold and use ANY personal information that they find on a returned computer (pretty sure this one violates EU GDPR rules).
There is the extortionate fines for any damage.
There are the claims of a "warranty" when it's a service agreement.
Also, if your car lease payments mean you will have effectively bought the car many times over after 5 years, then I suggest you change lease company because you're getting fleeced.

Killer investigation dude. Still one of the best consumer focused journalists on the internet. Keep doing the lords work, guys!
@@123Suffering456 I previously had an unrelated house fire as well. That's one of the reasons why it pissed me off when this all got swept under the rug.

Awesome reporting Steve. This is why I love you guys and the work you do.
The fact that they have an Affirm option cheaper than their own Flex program is unreal
And not just a little cheaper, like almost 50% cheaper. And you actually get to own the PC going that route.
@@Edgemaster72I'm not trying to defend NZXT, but part of the reason it costs more to rent instead of finance is because with renting you are not locked in to pay for the entire cost of the PC...You can keep it a month or a few months and send it back if you can't afford it anymore...That being said, their rent fee is still absurd for what you are getting...A normal mark up would be 25% not 100%...

Sounds like a great approach. Funny enough, our HVAC contractor is the same. Doesn't charge for the small stuff. Awesome service.
Yes imo, if the rental price was just less...like 30-40 dollars then Id be ok with it. 60? dollars is like...Well might as well buy a PC then.
Dang, what multi-billion dollar HVAC company works like that?

This is a good piece of journalism follow up. My cousin produced local TV news last century, and they did a consumer information piece about how it was better to buy than lease cars. The car advertisers didn't like it, and let the station know about it. That's why this reporting is so important. Thanks for the follow up piece.
The fact influences aren’t taking the blame for the fact they didn’t freaking read what they were promoting truly summarizes the state of the internet today. Brother, you only have yourself to blame. I am glad that in the UK and EU 'influencers' can be considered as advertises and be hold liable to advertising-standards regulations.
In Germany, each and every UA-cam video that contains a sponsored ad has to be declared as advertisement - in its entirety! Not just the sponsored segment, all of it!
In principle I agree with you, but how often are they actually held responsible? Pretty much never, sadly. Just assume that if an ‘influencer’ is peddling something, it’s going to be hot garbage.

@@mitchmillett9214 In the UK, more than you think. After a quick google search, here's are few to get you started: Holly Thompson, Biggs Chris, Jamie Clayton, Lauren Goodger, Rebecca Gormley, Yazmin Oukhellou, Scott Timlin, and Eva Zapico....

Its obvious why the CEO went to Jay for an interview rather than Steve.
I like Jay a lot but this is true and he absolutely is carrying water for companies like this by doing these interviews where he essentially pretends they are acting in good faith and can be 'reformed'. He knows they're lying and can't but he's financially entangled with them.
@@ParadoxicalThird I've met him IRL. Seems like a genuine dude. I reckon it's less about the money and more about his non-confrontational nature. Because there are people out there who are just non-confrontational like that. Not the best interviewers when it comes to interviewing people who are embroiled in a scandal.
True, but let's give some props to Jay for still confronting that CEO with the hard truth about what they advertised. You can't really get him to start yelling at the CEO and calling him a liar because that interview would be over long before the CEO could further dig their hole.
@@pogtuber5146I concur with this. Jay didn't do a softball interview. He came prepared with most of the questions you would expect given the points Steve raised in the initial interview. It wasn't a polished interview, which you can't blame Jay for given that's not really what the channel is about, but he deserves credit for a fairly thorough (and not heavily edited) video. Transparency is good here.

Being poor is a mentality. A lot of people spend their money on garbage instead of saving money. That includes me. Not everyone has the means or opportunity to rise above the level of "brokie", but a lot of people are just not willing to do what it takes to become rich. And I'm one of those people. Something that Gamers Nexus missed out or did not cover.
A component in the rental system breaks and needs to be repaired. 1)Is this onsite repair or return to base? 2)If return to base, who chooses courier and pays the fees for shipping? 3)If the system is shipped back for repair and is damaged further, does the damage in shipping clause come into affect? 4)If the system is away for repair and is not returned within 2 weeks, what rights does the customer have to stop payments? (Some parts can take months to be replaced.}
I was going to ask on first video, normal distraction and never did.

You don't need to ask if the returns are a scam. They're going to be a scam. Because these guys are scammers. And yes, you would probably just have to pay everything yourself.
