Another remarkable work! 🙌 You're incredibly thoughtful and creative in developing methods to test e-ink technology. You should consider writing an academic paper on this! 😄📖

You are my favorite content creator / reviewer for eink devices! Was on the fence on purchasing the note max for 2 months now. Will keep using my Tab Ultra C Pro and Supernote A6X2 as a combo. Might wait for the Note Max 2 next year, Glad I did wait for your reviews. Your testing methodology and in-depth insights is a breath of fresh air from all the fluff from other youtubers. Keep it up!

Yes. You don’t get this sort of creative practical testing anywhere else.
I had been hoping the keyboard folio would be a useful case/keyboard for work outside home but this sort of testing gives legitimate cause to avoid for that use.

Very clever method of testing 👍

Great inguinity in the simplicity of the test Voja - sometimes simple things in life remain best...old school or not :)
Do you think sticking some rubber or silicon strips / pads on the corners of the keyboard, would eleviate these inherent design problems, to lift it off the screen?
Clearly a design issue, which is bad news for those of us that have ordered this case, but is there any other alternative?

Thank you :) yes, I think that some silicone spacers will definitely help improve the situation, as it will add slight distance and prevent tilting and scratching around directly on the surface of the screen.

As for alternatives, well I use the regular cover on my Note Max and my favorite portable keyboard and that works perfectly :)

Nice work! And perfectly valid, carbon paper is a great way to determine high points that may potentially strike or damage a surface. To further qualify, perhaps a control /comparative test would help (sorry to add more work :))? For example, performing the same tests with the Lenovo Tab, laptop, or other. I'd venture that the rubber feet would make similar markings, but maybe lighter (but maybe not). Assuming that there are markings from the rubber feet, then the extension would be does contact lead to screen wear over time? Mohs hardness of plastic (2-2.5) vs glass (5) suggests the screen would wear down the plastic mount, but Mohs generally is more about immediate scratching vs erosion over time. I guess that's why Underwriters Laboratories uses robots to perform (destructive) repetitive testing, it's difficult to say that plastic may wear etched glass unless it's actually done a zillion times. But your tests are definitely a great initial indicator of a problem. I wonder if the nibs can be cut down just slightly shorter to remove even the potential for wear

You are partially wrong. It's correct to say that the carta sceens are allergic to presure witch destroys the screen matrix.
The problem is that the carta tech is one of a few e ink inhouse technologys like spectra 6, gallery 3, kaleido 3???, carta and Moebius.
The said Moebius screens are preatty resistant to breaking and are specially made for bigger e notes but have generally worst PPI.

Thank you for the technical clarifications. However, does that have any meaningful difference regarding the subject matter at hand, mainly the design of the cover and the two highly concentrated points of pressure against a glass surface of the screen cover?

@@MyDeepGuide Of cause not but I wanted to clarify or correct your statement about the screen tech. You said something like that ALL e ink screens are fragile, starts around at 2:32 minutes. I don't question your statement because it's generally correct but there are Moebius screens witch are build to be flexible. The Quaderno has Moebius screens and if I remember correctlly the Sony DTP.

    Very interesting.
Does not look good. Just wondering how different these results are from other e-ink tablets with keyboard folios or wasn’t kind of contact a non keyboard folio produces.
Could you do the same test for the remarkable?
Maybe also the keyboard folio for the tab ultra?
Lastly, maybe try the same with the standard cover in the note max.

Thanks for the test. This is really annoying. I had another look at the two pins and they align with the two grooves on the divide itself. I don't think that Boox will change existing foils. I have not measured it, but these pins are only several fractions of a millimeter over the plane. So when no other solution is in sight, I will 1. carry the Max in the other folio and/or rasp/cut the pins down by about 1/10 mm. The device should stay in place.
But there is another point which is really much worse for me: The keyboard is only delivered with the American layout. As an European you have no joice to get a German, French, ... layout where letters are in another order or special characters like umlaute are missing. You can change this with Android apps, but it is a mess.

It hurts my soul whenever you wiggle the cover to rub the screen.
These screens are delicate. I'm using soft nibs (rubber or felt) and they wear down the preapplied protector.
