    I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.

    I have watched your video about 10 times. I am really excited to build a version of this. Actually i'm going to build two of them with locking wheels. I am adding a removable section that will go between the two benches that will join them together to make a miter, and the bench top tool, station. I am also making them a little shorter so one can be an out feed table for my table saw. I am working out of my garage so space is important. They will be doing about 10 different jobs. And if i don't need them i can just roll them out of the way. Thanks for a great video and build.

      +BlockCylinder Great comment. Regarding fast action...I watch Jay Bates, Diresta, blazingnailguns, (Jay is the master at it, IMO) and love the fast motion videos, minimal talking and theory lessons. Some videos run 30 minutes long with 5 minutes of useful content. Great job shop Built. Love this work bench. I don't need one, but I sure am tempted to build it.

    I built this bench with the exception of the bottom shelf, which I used 3 layers of the plywood to make a center stringer and cleats to hold 2 MDF shelves separated by the showing stringer. Love the look of the plywood grain on the workbench. It's interesting and VERY strong. Thanks for sharing the plans with me.

    i really enjoyed it and it was really simple to build . it took like 8 hours to finish the whole thing
    but it consumed a little bit more sheets // two sheets of Plywood and 2 sheets of MDF
    Thank you so much for the video

    Will do. Should have it finished up, this weekend. I've been doing some reading on MDF a workbench tops (vs hardwood). Lots of opinions out there. A suggestion I am going to follow, will be to shellac the top, and then a light coat of wax. Not too slippery, but just enough to make glue clean-ups easier.

    Great project. Going to do it for sure. Question: You said you used a template for the routing the top flush. Can you explain the template. I couldn't tell it from the mdf and plywood tops. Both looked mated. Also, for the drawer, I thought a nice option would be a push/pull tray drawer you could access from either side, set on rails. Could be two trays if you put a divider in the middle. Well done.

I love the material as a work surface. my question to you is did you put a finish on the mdf? if so what did you use or if you didn't do you know what I could use. if I could go back in time I wouldn't have glued the top mdf down so I could have changed it. oh well live and learn. I just bought some materials to build a workbench, but you have me rethinking the design. I don't really use hand tools, but I think it is something I would like to mess with in the future. That vice looks like something I would like, and I like how you did the mortise and tennon construction for sturdiness. I would probably put casters on mine, just because I don't have the room for it to stay in one place, but I would try to position them so that I could lock them, or get the ones that raise and lower.
    What kind of plywood did you pick up? It looked like birch or something of a decent grade.

    • @Shopbuilt
      @Shopbuilt  9 років тому +3

      I've had the bench for about a year now and overall I'm really happy with it. The twin vices on the end is one of the most used tools in the shop. Also the single large drawer I use for all the stuff your always are looking for on a project like screws and measuring tools has also been a great feature I would keep. The only thing I wouldn't bother with is the dog holes because I never use them. I do have another video showing how to make a Mobile base for the bench. Yes it is birch plywood.
      Thanks for watching!

    • @BruceAUlrich
      @BruceAUlrich 9 років тому

      Shop built I thought I replied to this a while back. Sorry. I watched your mobile base video, but I'm not sure I want to go to all of that trouble to build that. My two options as I see it are regular casters 2" with a brake for about $20 total, or springing for those lifting ones that Rockler has for about $60 total. Where did you get the vice hardware? I would like to build this as well. Thanks again!

  • @slick88gt

    Thx for the feedback on the vise, I love this bench! One last question: did you drill the dog holes all the way through? If so do you get a lot of sawdust in the drawer?

    • @Shopbuilt
      @Shopbuilt  10 років тому

      The dog holes where kind of messed up because they ended up lining up with the stretchers, so I couldn't really drill all the way through. Because of this the holes fill full of saw dust but I just suck them out occasionally with a shop vac, not ideal though.
      Thanks

      Fwiw - laminated plywood like that is exceptionally strong - and stable. No seasonal shrink/swell like w solid lumber - so the fasteners will stay tight as well. Just buy good quality plywood - no voids - and protect the ends of the legs from moisture.
