It's proper name is the "CrowBot BOLT-Open Source Programmable Smart Robot Car STEAM Robot Kit"
It appears to be designed for older pre-teen to teenage kids who are interested in programming and introductory robotics.

This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I did it.

Every time I see an ad like this I like to guess the price since that's rarely mentioned. My guess was $150 based on the build quality (processor, fan out chips, lots of structure plus wheels...) and probably more than Eilik ($140).
The actual cost is $35 for the base kit. Can't even get an RPi for that price now-a-days

Hi, it only starts from $34.90, what a cheap price!

I wouldn't call the 6 year old Pi 3B ancient. The original 2012 Pi sure, with its single core and whopping 256MB RAM!

I thought the same, I recently tried to use a Pi1 b to be the brains of a smart speaker I was building, it didn't end well; boot up was so glacial it was like waiting for paint to dry. I upgraded it to a new in box pi2 b off of ebay, with its gig of ram, and all its swanky cores, it's was a world of difference. I use, maybe even torture, a pi3 b all day every day, running all my home automation needs, zigbee, zwave, mosquitto, Homeassistant, internet ad blocking, dns, and lots of other stuff, often all at once, so I think the issues he had were just down to bloaty or dodgy software, not so much the actual Pi. It gets rebooted one every blue moon or so, and its last 'uptime' was 300 days, so there's nowt wrong with Pi3's.

Esp32 C3 - RISC V chip but why the CH3X chip when the ESP32- C3 has built in USB interface.

I suppose with the ultrasonic sensor that makes more sense.

It'd be cool if they had of included one of the cheaper tfluna type 3degree fov lidar instead of a sad ultrasonic sensor. The ranges goes from 30cm to 10 meters. Same code too.

That's a really slick looking kit. It's pretty cheap too. Was the ESP 32 on the robot larger than normal? It looked huge from here.

I need a somewhat robust, upgradeble yet cheap and entry level robot kit to start programming on.
Do you think this is it?
I've had a hard time finding anything better for the pricepoint.

It's definitely easy to program. The processor is quite capable. And there are GPIO ports broken out for other uses.
At the price, I'd say it's a pretty decent place to start.

That's a pretty comprehensive kit. I'm not certain about having everything mounted on board. The components on the bottom are kinda cringe, one snag on a carpet edge or something and your into getting replacement parts and a soldering lesson (mine was a 10k trimpot for a line follower, I have a kit of trimpots now). I prefer the kits that come with an Arduino Uno clone, just for the possibility of using a different microcontroller in a Uno form factor.
They might want to look into changing the greeting, maybe "Hello Boss" or "Hey Buddy".

      @pileofstuff  Рік тому +1

Yeah, the "hello master" is a bit questionable in the current century.
I assume it is just an innocent translation from Mandarin problem, more than anything intentionally horrible, though.

@@pileofstuff Well, the word "robot" is derived from the Czech word "robota," meaning “servitude,” “forced labor” or “drudgery.” It goes back to 1920, when playwright Karel Čapek wrote the play "R.U.R.", or "Rossum’s Universal Robots."
