Tiny Desk has a giant musical footprint. I live in a small isolated town, so hearing something like this live, is near impossible. Thanks to NPR, I get pretty close.
I agree! I live in Berlin. And believe me when I say that when it comes to jazz it sometimes feels like a small isolated town. Don't get me wrong though - there are great players here. But what comes out of the US has that magical imprint, that spirit and depth and drive. Jazz is quite possibly the USA' greatest historical achievement - thanks to NPR for the relay of all around great music. Salutations Anthony!
glad to see kyle poole on here, hes been tearing it up with emmet cohen for a few years now. highly recommend emmet's youtube channel if ppl wanna hear more great jazz
"Jazz may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of The Juilliard School," actually it is 99.99% of the time, when I hear Juilliard, I hear Jazz thanks for this series
JJ Isaiah Thompson and his quartet sounded real smooth and tasteful!!😁👌🏻👍🏻I really enjoyed their tiny desk concert and looking forward to more from this jazz series😄🎹🎷🥁.
I love that band - the boys are swinging - and with a real master like Kyle helping them out it's gotta run smoothly ... Great job, please more of that!
This is a solid performance. The pianist really swings! Makes me think of Cedar Walton (I hear Mulgrew Miller also), and that tenor sound is reminiscent of Frank Foster.
WOWZERS! Truly timeless! What an amazing trip! These guys can vibe! I was jiving the whole time! I couldn't keep still! Well, more like my facial expressions couldn't keep still! WOWZERS! I TELL YEAH! Lol! It was so much fun listening to these Yung-ens. SO YOUNG... yet so sigma..... of a sound! WOWzers! I was so blown away that once I came back to, at about @19:30 I had to re-watch and re-experience this. Thank you NPR/Tiny Desk. P.S. It's like listening to a whole new set. These Artists of Life are amazing! A whole new sound each time. Now that is truly timeless!
Great tunes and musicianship all around. Bonus: they never lost the soul and the groove, and they never overplayed, even though they probably have the technical skills to do that. I really enjoyed the performance. Thanks!
Awesome. Takes me back to when every tv show had this style back in the early 60's. But it was always an acquired taste. Did Bob D and folk and then rock and revival of earlier jazz modes take over? Visions of formica tables and crazy architecture and smokey bars.
yes more jazz on tiny desk !!
EXACTLY

NPR tiny desk sooo cool! I've been channeling my inner dad who died this spring. He loved jazz. Always liked jazz. Now I'm jazzin' with dad!
Isaiah is downright amazing with the John Pizzarelli trio
The amount of control that guy has over that tenor sax is unreal...
I would also add that his self control is like a breath of fresh air 💫
coming home after work, drinking a coffee and smoking some flowers...perfect moment for this incredible music

❤GO, JAZZ QUARTET, GO ! ❤
Actually jazz is what I think of when I think of Juilliard. It's a music school.
This is a solid performance.
The pianist really swings! Makes me think of Cedar Walton (I hear Mulgrew Miller also), and that tenor sound is reminiscent of Frank Foster.

I am so happy to have discovered 20220831 TDC JJ IsaiahThompson FINAL
Wow his style is really like the late Kenny Kirkland. Also his posture too...
Great tunes and musicianship all around. Bonus: they never lost the soul and the groove, and they never overplayed, even though they probably have the technical skills to do that. I really enjoyed the performance. Thanks!
