Johnny Cash was a music genius who was going down the wrong path and June Carter saved his life and they had one of the longest successful marriage in the industry. Talk about a love story.
I mean... he died less than a year after she did, right? My memory might be wrong but it wasn't more than a year for sure. He *literally* couldn't live without her. Which is beautiful... but so, so heartbreaking

My Dad had eight brothers and 4 sisters. Only 5 brothers and 3 sisters made it to adulthood due to sickness and accidents back in the 1940s. The family didn't talk a lot about it. It wasn't uncommon for poor people back in those days. Many old folks have scars we can't even imagine nowadays.

That’s awful! My great-great grandmother lived to be 108 and she had 13 children and 4 of them died in childhood during the Great Depression. Which would explain why her youngest surviving child (my great-grandfathers youngest sister) grew up to be obsessed with hoarding food and once she died, the whole family raised her heavily stocked pantry, refrigerator, and freezer.
Both Jouquine and Reese did their own singing in this film.
My grandma grew up with JR and his brother in the colony of Dyess Arkansas. Life was tough for all of them especially in the early days

I didn't like the way Johnny Cash's Dad treated him, I knew he was hurt when his other son died but saying God took the wrong son was the saddest thing I ever heard in my life.

Edit: Before anyone comments, yes June and Johnny were just... unbelievable. When she died he wasn't even long after her, literally couldn't live without her, but they DID do Vivian *so* dirty in the film. Irl as well but portraying her as a bitch from the start wasn't fair.
That's true. They vilified Vivian. I very much enjoyed the movie, but when watching a biopic, I always keep in mind that the movie is more "pic" than "bio."

Vic never believed in John. She didn’t give a hoot about his dreams and she resented the fact that she could not control the kind of life she would live. They should’ve never married in the first place because they were totally not right for each other but we all make that kind of mistake especially when we are young well maybe not all but a lot of us do. Lol
Vivian was an only child and spoiled rotten, she tried to control Johnny, never supported his music career, wanted him to give it up and go to work for her daddy , Johnny did love Vivian though, he just never could do enough to make her happy!

I just don't get UA-cam blocking music videos? Because if they would just let people put up videos it would get the bands and singers recognition. There is a wonderful documentary about his first wife. Their story wasn't like that at all. It's called My Darling Vivian I think.
Wish more people took the time to dig into the real story instead of just trusting what’s put in front of them. It’s too bad how they portrayed Vivian here.
This movie was written from Johnny's biography, he would not have lied on Vivan, he did love her, it's not like he didn't try to please her but, she was spoiled. She had an easy life, Johnny had to work in cotten fields! His dad blamed for Jack's death until he finally changed but, he damaged Johnny for life, if he had not have met June, he would have surely lived a short life! Vivian came to see Johnny after June passed and, they amended their ways!
*My Darling Vivian* was just an attempt to fix her character to the world. I'm not saying she was horrible but I believe Cash, Vivian never had to work a day in her life and never supported J.R's career.

Watch the 1979 movie, WHEN A STRANGER CALLS. Right in time for Halloween 🎃...It scared the crap out of me when I saw it in the theater.
Make sure it's the original (1979) starring Carol Kane and NOT the remake years later.
PS If you like it, there is the sequel called WHEN A STRANGER CALLS BACK also starring Carol Kane.
