In a series for the BBC News website, Celebrities and news-makers are grilled by Matthew Stadlen in precisely five minutes. In this video, Matt talks to Jeanette Winterson.
Netty was my best friend at high school. We did everything (that Mrs Winterson would allow) together, be it going to Wembley to watch a hockey final, or roaming the moors behind our houses. She’s never changed
Jeanette was on Cerys Matthew's fab Sunday show on Bbc6music, she gave a great interview! She was talking about a woman called Steve Shirley who started up a software company, she made her 300 female staff millionaires and gave money to charity! Post-war nascent computing! Jeanette is excellent at engaging listeners, and now I want to know more about Ada Lovelace, Mary Edwards etc.
Her memoir is fantastic. Couldn't put it down. Bravo.
She's a complete inspiration. Adore her work!
That 5 minutes was majestic. I could listen to her all day.
Or rather, forever.
Gore Vidal mentioned her in an interview, so I looked her up - and I'm so thrilled to have discovered her work!

I ❤ Jeanette Winterson.
She likes opera a lot...
Amazing woman
Tosca is for her the best opera
I thought he said "Oprah"
Lmao 😂
My view is that poetry can only be read out loud and that you should read it to yourself in the mirror
She looks nervous here. Maybe it's the time pressure
Somebody owes me 5 minutes of my life back.
