    That's pretty cool. It's accurately represents what is described in the books: Jerjerrod being "obsessed" with executing his emperors last command. So while the station is shaking around him and the main reactor going critical and his command crew clearly losing their calm, he's just standing there, nervously, following that final order to destroy the Endor moon. I really like it1

Where Leia and Han are looking up at the sky around the same time the Death star lasers is firing near 1:35 and you see what looks like panic in Han's eyes and lose of hope in Leia's. Hope this is something you can add to it maybe in the future.

    I do like this a lot, great effort. Though I wouldn't imagine the Death Star 2 would be capable of firing with the main reactor exploding, the reactor system consists of two power columns, the upper travels through most of the northern/central section of the battle station while the other does the same going south, the energy output of the reactor system is focused into several giant Kyber crystals greatly increasing the beams power. As the reactor was attacked at its top the northern power column effectively collapsed on top of the southern power column which created the explosion that obliterated Death Star 2. The station would be losing power in all sectors, within thirty seconds the station was obliterated.

    • @olympicnut

      Solid point…but quoting Spielberg when Peter Benchley argued Steven’s ending to JAWS would not work. “If I’ve controlled the emotions of the audience for the last two hours, I got them for the last 4 minutes.”
      The original ROTJ script and book had a setup similar to this and I re-edited the film to best fit. In the script Jerjerrod was trying to destroy Endor after the main reaction was destroyed. Pretty sure something would’ve alerted him to the superlaser being unable to fire or offline. Maybe, the DS could still potentially fire, remember Star Wars is space opera not true sci-fi.
      Also…remember all but the middle laser fire, which is followed by a small explosion at middle of the firing disk, followed by the massive explosion which incinerates the DS.
      Again, you made a real solid point.

    • @arrrgee
      @arrrgee Рік тому +6

      @@TheSharkIsWorking_23 oh I'm not saying artisitc licence can't be applied, it's just that the main reactor has collapsed and exploded behind the falcon, so no power left at that point, but the audience will go along with an amazing death defying escape and the death star blowing up just as it's about to destroy the heroes on Endor as that is artisticly perfect for the audience.
      It's just a practical observation not really a proper criticism, Directors have to consider pacing and way more than just the practical considerations and ROTJ is a great film.
      I'd actually like to see a Directors cut with the extended scenes in as they cut quite a few out of ROTJ, particularly I'd like to see extended space battle scenes with all the extra pilots they cut, the female A-Wing pilots and the B-Wing pilots that all got cut out added back in, that would be nice to see, but alas this is all we have.

      @@arrrgee I think that the laser is powered by some kind of capacitor or battery bank. Seeing as after they fire they need to charge again, not something a reactor really does as it provides a constant power supply. That power must be going somewhere.

    • @TheSharkIsWorking_23
      @TheSharkIsWorking_23  Рік тому +5

      Funny enough, I did consider that very question you posted when editing, but only when I was far into the edit after multiple views. A little leeway was alright in this case. A good filmmaker…whether it’s the director or an editor should always consider these questions. If destroying the main reactor resulted in the whole DS losing all power, then ‘yes’ this would not make any sense and would not work. A New Hope, a pair of proton torpedoes hit the reactor and the whole station instantly blows up. Now, it takes minutes for DS 2 to blow-up after the reactor explodes.
      The ultimate goal with this was to give ROTJ a ticking time clock which could have devastating consequences, just like in A New Hope. Originally in A New Hope, George did have the DS trying to destroy Yavin. The DS was just somewhere in space. George’s wife Marcia Lucas, and one of the film’s editors, re-edited the film to have the DS trying to destroy Yavin, which added so much more weight and suspense to the battle.

      @@doomstere.g352 Batteries not included sorry ... LOL!!! Published sources state that the Death Star's Super Laser is powered by a hyper matter reactor, which is exactly what was hit at 0:50 when the Millennium Falcon fired concussion missiles and caused the reactor assembly to catastrophically collapse!!! The "re-charge" time is merely to build the reactor level back up to sufficient strength, enabling it to fire and destroy an appreciably sized target. Naturally a shorter timeframe is need to recharge in order to destroy a capital ship vs a longer period for a planet sized target!!!

      How is there suddenly a massive cliff on the inside of the T-Rex paddock fence in Jurassic Park?
      An air tank does not explode like a grenade from a bullet’s strike like it does in Jaws….but we LOVE those scenes.
      Spielberg said it best when Jaws author Peter Benchley argued the audience would never believe the movie’s ending. Saying, “If I’ve controlled the audience’s reactions for 2 hours, I’ll have them for the last 4 minutes.”
      If I actually wrote the scene out, I would’ve added dialogue in the firing control room…“Sir, the main reactor has been destroyed, but enough power was transferred to the backups for one last possible shot.”
      I’m going off of an original idea Lucas had for the battle of Endor involving the Emperor’s plan to destroy Endor which would actually wipe out everything and everyone near the planet. It was in scripts, comics, and most of the scenes were even film for it. I agree it does add the question how would the main laser be able to fire, but then you have to ask how is there still power in the hangers when Luke is escaping? Personally, it’s all forgivable and the audience does not think about it until long afterwards. Working with limited material, I felt this added a bit more suspense and urgency in destroying the Death Star. Had it been edited into the final theatrical edit, this is probably the most effective way it would work in the edit.
      Still…this works far better than having the gigantic remaining Death Star wreckage still intact in TROS, or Palpatine somehow surviving multiple explosions. Lol
      Personally, I always thought of the smaller explosion at the firing disk before the main explosion to be the Death Star’s remaining fire power imploding and sparking the massive incinerating blast.

    This is very well done, but the problem lies in the Jerjerrod footage itself. It's just not tense enough for what's going on elsewhere. We've got a fairly slow counterpoint to the action already with Luke and his dad. Another sedate scenario takes away from the action. It makes too much of Jerjerrod at a moment when we should just be wanting all the imperials fricaseed.

      @@bend7726 not trolling, dead serious. And No rogue one does not perfectly tie into A New Hope because a lot of dialogue and the Opening Crawl that you pointed out also contradicts rogue one. As you stated what the Opening Crawl states that the Rebels won their first victory against the Empire however rogue one shows no such victory by the Rebel Alliance because the battle of scarif wasn’t an official battle, the entire Rebel fleet was lost and the battle ultimately lost, there was no Rebel victory in rogue one. Also the Opening Crawl states that the Battle and the theft of the Death Star plans were two separate events disconnected from each other. That completely contradicts rogue one.
      Not to mention that Darth Vader specifically states that Leia’s ship intercepted the transmissions and the plans were beamed to her ship by Rebel Spies. This never happened in rogue one. He never mentions the Rebel Cruiser or that he chased a guy right up to her front door, with better incriminating evidence like that that would be better reason enough to arrest her based on that and not by suspicion of intercepting transmissions instead. None of the rogue one crew were spies and what they were doing was not spying at all. That completely contradicts rogue one.
      Plus the Death Star was stated to not be operational yet and wasn’t operational until it test fired on Alderaan. The Death Star was considered vulnerable therefore the Superlaser wasn’t working yet. Tarkin specifically says that Alderaan would be used as a test of the Death Star’s now operational Superlaser. If the Death Star had already fired twice then why would it still be considered not operational yet? If jeda was the test then why did Tarkin say that Alderaan was the test? That completely contradicts rogue one.
