Sociology is boring. Mathematics>Philosophy>HistoryPsychology>Physics>Chemidtry>. The fact that I love chemistry indicates how much I praise MATHEMATICS. Sociology is also interesting but not as much
Stelios Toulis If Sociology truly is that low on your scale of interest, it should militate you being here unless you either 1) consumed the bulk of scholarly work in mathematics, philisophy, history, psychology, physics, and chemistry; mastered those disciplines; and now, having exhausted those ever-expanding fields of study, must finally, and pitifully, focus on sociology or 2) you're exaggerating/trolling. I have the hunch that I've met the world's greatest intellectual in the comment section of a Crash Course Sociology video who uses his genius to find things he's hardly interested in and devalue them. What a brilliant use of time and genius.
Stelios Toulis Many do, and I'm sure there's value in that, but I just don't see the value in commenting on a comment that praises the benefits of an underrated sociology and encourages more educational material orbiting its central bodies only to say it is boring or merely okay. I came off strong, for which I apologize, but the comment was empty dissent that contributed nothing but pixels to the subjects I originally mentioned. I'm sure you are a polymath, you're on Crash Course, ffs. It's like a sanctuary for us, but if I could plead one thing to you, it would be to consider what you're actually proffering when you choose to change a mind or keep it as it is. I'm sorry if I offended you. You took me in my poorest state rather well, and for that, I commend you. Hopefully, we can befriend each other under more pleasant circumstances.
Physical ills from pollution highlights a fact about the environment most activists forget: We care about the environment because of its impact _on us._ Too many environmentalists think the planet is in danger, or that the natural environment is inherently worth protecting. No; we protect the environment because doing so protects ourselves. Thank you for another outstanding episode, Nicole Sweeney.
That's right, "easy access to health care" should be considered an important proximal factor that predicts better health but also reduces stress - not worrying too much about getting sick may improve wellness as well.
As a public health worker I have to correct you on infant mortality among African Americans being due to SES. It is found across all income brackets that black infants have a higher mortality than white infants and a lower birth weight than white infants. It is believed that this is due to minority stress affecting the fetus in the womb. I am not sure why your sources did not adjust for income but they should have.
I noticed in most videos you present excellent topics but the problem is you try to give too much information within short time which become less effective and the follower feels lost in the middle. My suggestion is to explain few ideas under each terminology and take your time to explain them well so people understand them well and much better. Then, you can provide a link for those who need to read more. Finally, thanks for this wonderful channel and keep it up.
My understanding of the concept is the presentation of a number of topics and some information to be used as a basis for more study by the viewer. None of the Crash Course programs appear designed to go into detail - more like study notes.
Crash course Interior/Fashion Design :D I may be the only STEM kid who's really interested in the principles behind how designers design and decorate beautiful clothes and rooms. Hope not though!
I disagree, this video was way less ideological than the rest, and non of the information was misrepresented. That is definitely not the case for many of the other videos.
Is it just me, or did she neither in the past two episodes about health nor in earlier episodes about sex and gender ever use the word 'biopolitics'? Despite the fact that this term is exactly what the discussed topics are.
I like this girl. I become quite smitten to intelligent women. I do wish she would sum up her conclusion into a single or two sentence statement of what she is trying to point out though. Words that will conclude in an artistic wrap up.
RealJayJobes i didn’t know it’s offensive to call black people African american. i would love to know why you feel that way because I’ve always been taught that that is the politically correct thing to say. i only ask out of curiosity and respect. so that i know why i should say that and hopefully spread the word.
Mary Wright As a black man and African American, how I would have you distinguish African Americans from Black people is that African Americans is a specific ethnic designation primarily assigned to the descendants of enslaved Africans emancipated in the 1860s. It refers to the mass of Africans who are, for the most part, disconnected from the history and cultures their ancestors experienced prior to the transatlantic slave trade. Black people is assigned to people of color primarily who visibly show stereotypically or phenotypically African features. Ex- African American:Black People, square:rectangle, subsidiary:umbrella
Mary Wright hey! It's not really "offensive" as much as it's severely out dated. Most blacks aren't from Africa, were from America. So we're American. A lot of blacks see African American as a way to separate the race and say that white is the real original American (which really native Americans are the real Americans). So unless we start calling white people "European American" which really just sounds foolish- we should treat "African Americans" similarly and just say black. When I was young white people were so scared to say "black person". I had to literally force adults as a K-5 student to be ok with referring to my stepdad as such. Honestly as long as you're just being respectful, no one will have a problem with either. It's just good to see the stigma has died. And all in all I've never been to Africa so It'd be a dishonor to the nation anyways for me to claim I'm "African" American. I have no knowledge of the country. Lol
RealJayJobes thank you so much that makes so much sense and i don’t know why i didn’t think of it sooner. i feel foolish. but I’m grateful for you taking the time to explain that to me in such a respectful manner despite how stupid my question may have been or seemed. i will spread the word!
In case you are unaware, you are watching an English speaking video. The English speaking world is mostly white, with some black people in the American South. If you want a video about Arabs, go to an Arabic speaking channel, Chinese, Brazilian, etc.
Jane Doe this is true, however here in Canada, native settlements don't speak English, further proving my point. This is probably different in America, but I cant say cause I don't know.
JOE BLOE Most American Indians have English as their first language due to a history of forced boarding schools which punished children for speaking in their Native languages and attempted to destroy Native culture. Considering Canada also had these boarding school policies, I find it difficult to believe all or most of your indigenous Canadians speak no English or French.
One of the most underrated disciplines and fields of study from Crash Course. Thank you, CC!

Rashid M. Bey sociology is just OK. Nothing really spectacular

I like "A" visit from the Grim Reaper as opposed to "The". That's the power of positive thinking!

I am surprised easy access to health care wasn't considered a factor in reducing stress.
terry hollands That's something that would have tied in better with the previous episode - Health and Medicine.
That's right, "easy access to health care" should be considered an important proximal factor that predicts better health but also reduces stress - not worrying too much about getting sick may improve wellness as well.
"Humans don't want to die." I reject your hypothesis!
This, but unironically.
maybe kids don't want to die
Perplexion Dangerman. LOL you are joking.

Do you guys have a podcast , if not , can you start one !
When this lady first got introduced to us I was a lil stand off-ish. But now I like her and the videos she's put out ☺
Let’s hope that the dislikes stay less than 50%
When you don't mention gender or race in the title, enlightened techbros don't know to flame the video without watching.
I disagree, this video was way less ideological than the rest, and non of the information was misrepresented. That is definitely not the case for many of the other videos.
XxPlayMakerxX131 This doesn’t attack any of the alt right dogma with inconvenient facts, so I think we’re safe.
the dislike ratio is surprisingly low
Ideas tend to have value when they work but only leave results ones that do work are evident
Why isn't diet mentioned?

I have that exact sweater. She looks better in it.
Is it just me, or did she neither in the past two episodes about health nor in earlier episodes about sex and gender ever use the word 'biopolitics'? Despite the fact that this term is exactly what the discussed topics are.
could you possibly translate this as I don't speak English, many thanks.
Says someone who typed a comment in perfect English.
ahem google translate?
What language do you want it in, dude?
David slow down the speed to .5 or .75
lol
Informative enough but population sustainability based on the dependnacy ratio would have been good to include as well.
Why black american's statistics needed separately in life expectancy?
You wrote "Amercan" instead of "American" on both the life expectancy chart and the fertility rate chart
That's correct! Murica!
its good to be healthy

she's reading a script done by other people...
and here I thought she was intelligent.
Thank god!!! I thought we would get an episode WITHOUT talking about hysterical racism....
Is that figure in the pink in the background Doctor Mrs. The Monarch?
THANK YOU FOR SAYING BLACK AND NOT AFRICAN AMERICAN

CC Public Health!
I thought she's gonna talk about environmental racism
I need Arabic translation
Are blacks the most disenfranchised minority group in the United States? I was wondering because whites are always compared to them in these videos.
👌👌👌
🥰🥰😍😍

Violating the is-ought line again: Sociology is a political party. NOT a scientific discipline!
So why does crash course doesn't even has african american teachers...???😅😊
FIRST
heyo! :D
dont use the term african american
Wait I thought race was a social contract. What is this "white" you speak of?
What are talking about? Do you mean "social construct"? Social Contract is a completely different topic.
Social contract is a book
Again, the video compares black and white populations, while only touching on others. Bleh.

JOE BLOE American Indians have really terrible health disparities - in many cases, worse than African Americans.
