Not gonna lie. I'm finding a soy-free vegan diet super hard...and boring! If you have any high-protein, soy-free, plant-based meal or snack ideas, leave them in the comments below! Subscribe so you don't miss the next video (ua-cam.com/users/theconscientiouseater)
Have you ever tried Burmese tofu? It's made entirely from chickpea flour but it can fill the same role as regular tofu in a meal. It's also really easy to make at home, takes about half an hour on the stovetop at most. My favorite way to prepare it is air-frying it!
Loving that you are asking for soy free recipes! I'm very interested in soy free options 😁 My daughter & I can't have a lot of soy products (makes me ill; daughter breaks out in blistered/open sores on her face). Love your videos, makes trying to introduce a variety of meals so much more appealing 😊 Thank you.
Ty’s conscious kitchen UA-cam has soy free recipes. I think he has the chickpea “tofu” recipe on his channel. He hasn’t posted in a while but there were a lot of videos still up. Love your videos
@@CharGC123 I’m assuming because in previous videos she has mentioned adult acne issues. “Soy leads to decreased estrogen levels and increased levels of androgens (male hormones), which impact the formation of acne by causing our glands to produce more pore-clogging sebum. In other words, consuming soy triggers acne breakouts.”-AcneClinic
If you’re interested, we make: vegan cauliflower lentil loaf, protein power lentils with amaranth patties, saucy Moroccan spiced lentils, cheesy Mexican quinoa, Quinoa Bowl with Za’atar Chickpeas-20 grams of protein, Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese-29 grams of protein, Sopa de Fideo-19 grams of protein, and I got lotsa others.
You meals are always so inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing. I love making sauce from white beans (navy, butter, Lima). I add nutritional yeast, garlic, onion, salt, a pinch of fry mustard and cayenne. Blend it up super smooth. It’s a little like alfredo. I add it to pasta, pizza as the sauce or make nachos (traditional chips or roasted potatoes!). Also making a peanut-style almond sauce and add that to stir fries to get a protein boost.
Check out Mary's Test Kitchen for her homemade non-soy tofu recipes. She made tofu from pumpkin seeds. I would also suggest switching out rice for quinoa to bulk up your protein, though of course quinoa is expensive in Malaysia.
Dear, since indians eat lot of vegetarian food, I can suggest you to make banana chips n lentils namkeen for snacking. You can make tons of snacks using chickpea. You can make namkeen or dokla which is like salty pancakes.
If I couldn’t eat soy, I would also struggle to find high sources of protein🥺 But I think 1. lentils are great (love them in every colour), 2. beans and chickpeas of course, 3. almond- pumpkinseed- or peanut flour for high protein sweet snacks, 4. Quinoa , 5. Adding a tbsp ob nutritional yeast to every savory meal, 6. Seitan (made from wheat), 7. you can make tofu from any legume (there are videos online, really simple), 8. lupins are also really high in protein😊there are also soy curls made from pea protein online, they are really high in protein🙊 thats all I got, hope it helps😂 Really enjoy your videos and your kids are so cute🥹🙈
When I was soy-free (and also whole legume free😬) for a while, I made a lot of burmese tofu, which is made from chickpea flour. Lentil pasta is also very high in protein. You can also try to make seitan (or a seitan chickpea mixture) if you can handle gluten well. Since you are also plant based and not vegan, maybe you can add organic eggs every now and then to add some protein to meals where it's hard to add legumes into, like with the noodle dish you showed in the video.
@Cat Leigh I guess I'm not plant based then because I eat eggs. I am mostly vegan besides eggs and honey. I base my meals around veggies though so I like to say I'm on a plant based diet.
Thanks so much for these suggestions! I've actually been eating some eggs lately to give me some variety. Yes all the recipes on my blog are vegan, but I call myself plant-based. I eat a mostly plant-based diet, but am not strict 100% of the time. Thanks for watching!
Yes! I’m 100% doing this type of diet too. I enjoy fish and eggs and my family does too. I used to feel guilty for the occasional change of diet but it makes me feel my best. Thanks for being honest I think lots of people probably eat this way!
Everything looks so good! Just found your channel today and I feel so inspired to cook healthier plant based meals for my family. Re. soy-free protein - do you do okay with gluten? If so, homemade seitan in various forms really packs in a lot! I have a couple of sausage recipes (a breakfast type and a hearty dinner type) as well as some chicken-style cutlet recipes, and they are so versatile - either chop some up and add to a lunch or dinner recipe, or even eat cold. Sausage slices with crackers would be a good snack.
Thanks so much Rebekah! I'm glad you found my channel and are enjoying my videos and finding some recipe inspiration :) Yes, I thankfully do fine with gluten! I always forget about seitan, probably because I've never cooked it quite right. Do you have a food blog? Where can I find your recipes?
Thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas🥰 Looking forward to the meal prep video coming... those are my favorites😘 Also want to tell you, that I love love love your baked oatmeal recipes for one❤️
Faith I was devastated when you said you weren’t actually posting a grocery haul vid 😆 I love those haha. Looking forward to a meal prep video. Maybe seitan (spelling??) for a protein option if gluten isn’t a problem for you?
I love the what I eat in a week videos. Everything looks so good and inspiring. Envious that you have that thick oat yogurt. I'm in a medium-sized town in Florida, and our choices for non-dairy yogurt are all thin.
@@TheConscientiousEater I just saw on another food vlog that Kite Hill has a Greek style non-dairy yogurt. I'm going to see if I can find it. Love watching your videos
I looked up your red lentil curry and was excited to find you used the rainbow plant life one. I love this recipe it is the best. My daughter, who is not vegan will ask for this one all the time. Love watching you and your recipes. 😊
I just wanted to say, That I just got in your book today. It Is fantastic! I love the way you laid it out And the recipes and photos are so wonderful. I am excited to go through this page by page And make some of your recipes. Best Christmas gift I ever ordered for myself ! I hope you write more books and I will definitely order them all
I've learned how to make tempeh so I really need to get back into it using other beans. And other's have mentioned lupin so I'll have to look into that. Thanks so much!
Love Alone!! For granola I mix loads of seeds and nuts with granola, put maple syrup and apple sauce on it and some salt and sometimes spices. The original recipe had coconut oil in it but one time I just tried it without and it really came out the same, still crunchy! Recommend trying if you haven't already.
I love the show alone! If you like that show you might also like a book called endurance. It’s a true story about someone who went to Antarctica. Thanks for a the inspiration!
I too am struggling with eating enough protein. I'm just not used to eating so many beans and lentils, or rather not enough. I've been trying to eat more nuts as a snack which I'm also not really used to. A video on easy ways to add plant based protein would be amazing!!!
Hallo Faith, Thank you very much for another helpful video with delicious recipes! I would suggest you try buying or making chickpea tofu to use in your recipes. I usually use legumes as a main protein source throughout the week and use tofu only in my sandwiches, (which you can sub with chickpea no tuna salad) so I think you can do it! Sending you love from Greece!
I wish! Even though soy tempeh is everywhere here, I've yet to find a soy-free tempeh. I know chickpea tempeh is sold in places like Australia. Hopefully it will come here soon!
I love your channel! In the states we have chick pea Tempe and other kinds without soy! Are those available where you live? I love to binge watch your channel!
I so wish I could find tempeh from other legumes here. I've made it before, but find it hard to find time...even though it's easy. I just need to get into a habit of doing it!
What the?! That sounds amazing! Especially cause I always opt for sweet snacks over savory. Do you have a recipe? Or just add chai spices, some sweetener and nut butter to a basic hummus?
I love your recipes and had to smile when you had oatmeal for evening meal. I get like that sometimes...only oatmeal will do! You are an inspiration. Thank you for the great content.
If you are worried about protein, cook up a big pot of beans or lentils for the fridge--kinda like your sheet pancakes. I do this once or twice a week, dipping into them to put on everything. I had adult acne and a soy issue for years. I've gotten over all of my food sensitivities. There's hope. But I've never been able to each chocolate without breaking out nearly as quickly as I swallow it. I had five kids who always stole my food. I had forgotten all about it, but I used to hide, too. lol With five kids and a home daycare, I just kept everything in the toy room.
Why do you need to eat soy-free? Do you have soy allergy? Best luck, hope you find many good and delicious soy-free proteinsources. I know some brands that make mockmeats of pea-protein.
No allergy, but soy gives me acne. After having acne my entire life, I finally discovered soy was a trigger so I'm avoiding it! And yes. I thought brands like beyond meat were soy-based, but just discovered some of their products are pea-protein-based. It's nice to have that as an option when needed:)
A lot of proteins have an ingredient in them that I'm also trying to avoid. But I think I found a protein I can use now, so may include more of that now!
