  • Here is the latest lecture in the series of undergraduate lectures that we are making available to give an insight in to life in Oxford Mathematics.
This lecture from James Sparks is taken from his Second Year Quantum Theory course. So far in the course we've met the Schrodinger equation for a quantum particle's wave function and solved it in a simple example, namely a particle confined to a box. Schrodinger himself wasn't sure what the physical meaning of the wave function was when he wrote down his equation. In this section we describe Born's probabilistic interpretation, and look at some example calculations.
All first and second year lectures are followed by tutorials where students meet their tutor to go through the lecture and associated problem sheet and to talk and think more about the maths. Third and fourth year lectures are followed by classes.
You can watch a second lecture from this course (on Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle) here: • Quantum Theory - the H...

Now after watching this lecture and playing around with the equations, I accidentally invented the Time Machine. Anyways, thanks for the lecture.

Unpopular opinion : I really wish universities open again. It's just not the same watching lectures in a computer and actually having the professor in front of you on the board...

Buenos días, excelente ... pregunta es: siempre la posición de la partícula para este modelo represente la altura máxima de los picos de las ondas?

I wish I could watch this (to probably oppose it, it's my intuition), but I have too many practical problems to solve. Should anyone be able to help me get rid of psychiatric drugs I'm force to take, I may start thinking about what path to take in life. Thank you.
