Mars is one of Earth's closest neighbors in the solar system, but it's a completely different world than the one we live in. What intrigues you the most about the red planet?
We got very remote and isolated places right here on Earth with no human presence or settlements at all 🌏🌎🌍 making those places more human livelihood like, I think would be way easier and cheaper than just trying to colonize something that is totally dead 🌑🌑🌑
It fascinates me that while we are destroying Earth's biosphere we are actively seeking the next planet to destroy, or maybe in the case of Mars we are trying to understand why this planet can no longer sustain life, if ever there was any. I think the reason for going is so they can find rare elements and or the discovery of something to use as a weapon.
Fun facts: Mars is the most explored planet in the Solar System, other than Earth. Mars will most likely be the next target for manned missions. Excluding Earth, Mars has the most hospitable weather in the Solar System, where temperatures in the Summer can reach a nice 35 degrees celsius. Mars has the largest dust storms, which can even cover the whole planet.
plot twist, adam and eve were Martians and sent through a capsule and came to earth and the capsule was also the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs and brought their god with them
How about using the science and engineering of space exploration to help people back on earth and also use it to inspire the next generation of engineers?
Dan Moran that's not going to happen if the temperatures rises significantly ;) so better care about the earth first and then do what ever you want to explore space !
Verdeil Cyprien how do you think we know the earth's temperature is rising? A major data set set comes comes from satellites learning average ocean and surface temperatures. They also map weather patterns and jet streams and monitor the ice caps. In addition, they can map CO2, suphar, carbon monoxide and other particulates in the air.

I was not talking about illuminates or conspiracy. What I am saying is: isn't it better to keep our blue and green planet and make it a better place, rather spending so much effort on TERRAginizing dead planet....?
Babur Absamatov okay so if we might pave a way for going outside of this universe if string theory is true then our earth might be in different state in different universe
Babur Absamatov human population in world is now increasing day by day and it might be possible we may again fight for food so in order to maintain humanity in global scale or galatic or now interplanetary scale so what's the wrong in it because we still are zero form of civilization means we still cut down trees for fuel but this mission paved a way of first form of civilization means interplanetary form of living in universe and then we might go from this galaxy or universe and settle in different universe which will pave 3rd form of civilization means interglactic and interuniverse or multiuniverse civilization so rather livivng here we should now give rest to Earth and explore some more areas of universe
Our presence on earth is nothing but just an insignificant presence for a very short while, compared to earth's existence itself. We are at phase where the planet is now hospitable to living things. It is not impossible that we will reach the phase where earth will be like mars. Extreme temperatures, dead volcanoes, and dried up seas. By then we would have realized that perhaps plastic wasn't such a big a of problem as compared to what earth has in stored for us. Thanks for sharing National Geographic.
Azliana Lyana Human civilization has been around a few thousand years. It's silly to assume we'll be around in a billion years. If our descendents still live, the situation will have radically changed far beyond what we can imagine.
In about 5 million years all DNA will degrade anyway. In 500 million to 1 billion all life will be dead on Earth and the expanding Sun will first boil all the seas on Earth and then engulf the Earth together with Mercury and Venus.

I have VIVE Pro and watching Mars from Curiosity point of view is astonishing. I spend quite some time walking and looking at Mars surface as I am there.
Mars lost most of its atmosphere when it was captured like a comet by the Sun. We know Mars is a captured planet because its axial tilt doesn't match closely with the axial tilt of the Sun, it matches closely with Saturn's axial tilt so Mars was likely orbiting Saturn when it was earth-like, when Saturn was a dwarf star before it was captured by the Sun and lost its mass.
Mars seems look like the most best planet to Terraform, but everyone forgot that because Mars is smaller than earth, it will have a smaller gravity, meaning we really need time to adapt there, our body isnt suited for this lower gravitation

I think something more significant happened on the inner planets around the same time and that's why they're all so different yet so similar. If the Earth's Dinosaurs (and most of life in general) went thru a huge shift, and the geology of Mars stopped around the same time whats to say something didnt happen on Venus that helped it get where it is today? Say a small asteroid came thru the inner Solar System, broke up, and collided with the inner planets changing them forever? The most affected planet being Venus where the interaction lead to a backwards rotation and extensive global volcanism. Truth is we can't truly and accurately know what happened way back then; Its fun to hypothesis.

I think the key to humanity's survival comes from finding an earthlike planet within 10 light years, and the ability to travel at around 6%+ the speed of light, which is currently theoretically achievable. That would allow us to reach there within 100 years.
However, what immunity would we lack to new viruses etc?
@itsWindows11 late, but maybe time dilation can add some more years to a passenger on a ship.
we are the ones bringing new viruses
I think the key to humanity's survival is to become actually humans and take care of their own planet earth in the meantime
Humanity has one of the strongest immunity systems
well but way beyond current situation
we managed ~200 kmps which 0.064% of light speed.
