- The feijoa, not the kiwi, is the unofficial fruit of New Zealand, but it remains unknown to much of the world. The perfumed green ovals are known elsewhere as pineapple guava and originate from South America, but they’ve found an unlikely and fervent popularity in New Zealand. I love Feijoa's, have done for years. My neighbour has a big tree. He doesn't like the fruit so keeps his tree trimmed right back. But we have a happy agreement that he doesn't trim what leans over my side of the fence.
LOL this description of the fruit
Yes as a kid. They were just everywhere. Pick it up on the way to school .. actually anytime.. Everyone enjoyed them. Why is food that was commonplace now a commodity. Isn't that stealing. DOES THAT MEAN PEOPLE NOW WILL YELL AT YOU FOR PICKING IT UP AND EATING IT?? BECAUSE IT HAS A PRICE TAG???
I really like em. I am in San Diego California and we have several variations that grow in trees and bushes. My coworker doesnt like em says they taste like perfume lol.

They look like guavas (guayabas).
Yep. But according to the description, it's called pineapple guava.
