I was privileged as young man to participate in it's break in runs on the Winchester and Western in the late eighty's. At the time Working beside Bill Benson, Ross Rolling, Norman Stanley, it really didn't sink in until later years the opportunity I had. (Opportunity is wasted on the youth) ( I think I remember Normans name correctly). At the time I was a fireman on a 1925 built Baldwin 2-6-2 in Hartwell Ga, (oil burner ) and our engineer and crew chief, Robert Franzen Jr, called me one afternoon and said, hey, you wanna go to Maryland and work on a T1? Lol. We left that evening! Also remember it was on an Easter weekend. Good times.
I remember climbing up on the 2100 in Richland, WA the very last time she was under steam. It was a hot mess to be kind. Water was pouring out of mud sheet by the gallon as there was a lot of rust pulling apart the bucked rivets. I'm glad that people who wanted to save it were able to get it and have the ability and funding to save her.
Ask me how I know.. annddd my great grandfather was a WW2 medic. So yeeess.. if and ever. Even your medicines list after cleaning up would change, I am sure. Felt like a double loud harrrd hard heat beat just like the vitamin. 😂 ALIVE!! Mine personally harrrd heart beat. 💋 Bless your heart Hun..
I was in awe when I got permission to tour inside and outside of this facility back in April. Hope to see the 2100 run soon, looking forward to it. thanks for sharing and doing this interview.
I grew up in sugarcreek OH on the Ohio central from 93 to 03 when they were running steam, was down there every second I could with my mom, haven't had the ability to work for the railroad or anything but always been a huge passion and just love seeing steam, great video, happy holidays
I really like the video setting! The bright lighting brings what might normally be dingy to life! The area looks like people are taking care in what they are doing. Thanks covering the Anthracite question. If it's a PA steam locomotive the question Ito me is if it was made to burn that special Pennsylvania coal anthracite noted to be smokeless. The speaker stated it was, but it does steam even better with bituminous coal!. I keep waiting for a steam locomotive that has gone the next conversion step to run on compressed natural gas. That would likely require a tanker car for the fuel. There would be no harmful emissions unlike burning home heating oil that does have a smell and is considered hazardous waste if spilled. It might be possible to get subsidies from natural gas companies promoting its clean altnetatitve. Greenhouse gases can't cause global warming because all the greenhouse radiant energy is completely absorbed by greenhouse gases in earth's greenhouse effect within 20 meters of the radiating surface, typically the earth. That is high school science and the United Nation's IPCC states in the back of its 200 page science report it took its greenhouse gas samples at 20,000 meters altitude. That is legal data transparency to mean it is not discussing active greenhouse gases. They have informed the interested reader they are not actually dealing with greenhouse gases in a manor related to global warming.
I would give all most anything to be able to jump in to a steam project like this but no body doing anything like that around where i live ..sucks....great video tho 👍👍👍
It was not in a "siding" in Washington. It was stored in poor shape at the end of the line of an industrial spur. Yes is arrived as a running locomotive but it was not in great shape when I had seen her. Richland was actually a great spot to store it too as the weather in SE Washington St is very dry and hot with mild winters unlike western Washington where there's a lot of rain and trees to drop stuff onto and in the locomotive to rust. When she was on BNSF's main line coming over Stampede Pass she had a hot box under the locomotive. I can't remember if it was a lead truck or trailing truck bearing but it caused a problem and there was a delay which did not endear them to BNSF.
Wish A had the money ta restore some steam train engines in Georgia where A live there's 3 passenger train stations along the main line here one in Blackshear Georgia where A live one in Waycross Georgia n the third one is in Jessup Georgia n by all three train stations they have little stores along the streets that's by the train stations to bad they don't have passenger train service steam n diesel if they di d that would be cool n A would apply ta operate a steam train engine or diesel engine n stop at each train stations n it will bring in more money for each city when A used ta live in Bethlehem Pennsylvania A met ma wife on AOL we talked for about a year she came ta Pennsylvania from Florida A took her ta Lehighton Pennsylvania they had a train station there with a train ride we went on the train ride n along the streets by the train station they had little stores n coffee shops n they was busy with people n torest buying souvenirs eating at coffee shops going on train rides they was making a lot of money each day for the city or town of Lehighton Pennsylvania wish they would do that here in Blackshear Waycross and Jessup Georgia

I"m thrilled this beautiful locomotive will be running on the rails again!
It was great to have you at the roundhouse!
I look forward to coming back in the early spring next year!

Jerry Jacobson's (rest in peace, Jerry) Age of Steam Roundhouse project is amazing.
I hope some day they run it with one of the other Reading T-1's I remember this actually happening when i was a boy, at least 50yrs. ago

I own two scale model Railroad T one's and I love them...... interesting musings perciate the video Hombre's 🎉.

Always admired T-1’s, Reading Rebuilt the largest 2-8-0’s ever Built into a fine 4-8-4. Fast and very Steep performance.
Any change of double heading with the 2102? Would be AWESOME!!!!
I'd pay money to see that.
That coding can also be put in as used to build parts for those locomotives into CNC machines
I wanted to watch them give some detailed descriptions onna walkaround of the engine
It would be awesome if Reading 2100 to be dressed as AFT 250 doubleheads with R&N 2102.
I road on such an excursion i bet over 50 yrs ago reading rambles
Like and scribed excellent prime cut video perciate it Hombre 🎉.

Hotbox is a maintenance issue, not a ASR issue. Anything that weighsthat on the car could cause that. So BNSF is being pedantic.
is it gonna be steamed.
Sure is. Stay tuned!
