BLOWN AWAY: Paragliding safely in strong wind
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Strong wind causes paragliding accidents. But is it always dangerous? Join Flybubble Paragliding as we compete on the 'Mini-dragon' hike and fly race in extreme conditions. Learn techniques to stay safe in the mountains when paragliding in strong wind (30km/h+).
This is not intended as a 'how to do it' but more of a 'see how it works' ... this sort of guidance is seldom shared by experienced pilots (for fear of someone doing something stupid) but we'd rather you have the knowledge so you are empowered. Choose what suits your flying skills and equipment. Treat strong wind with great respect!

Pushing/testing the limits without too much risk - AWESOME to see an instructor being open and realistic with risks instead of overly cautious
absolute legend, what Greg doesn't know aint worth knowing. fantastic tutorial.
Love the step by step explanation of your thought process. Very helpful for beginners! Thanks
Good Job Greg! Not easy flying in those conditions, but totally doable as you've so skillfully demonstrated. You also made sure we all understood the risks and need to understand your own limits as well as your wing's.
Thanks Greg, I haven't flown yet my course is 3 weeks away but I have watched most of your videos and enjoy the clear and easy to understand information along with the well edited and filmed content. Cheers!
I'm 5 weeks!! Can't wait!!
How was your course? I'm starting out soon too :)
Was excellent! Weather could not have been better. Managed to get in 30 flights in 8 flying days. Brought all my gear and looking forward to learning and flying more.
@@hamishbrown1070 Wow, that's amazing. So are you preparing for getting any specific license?
Hi, I have a PG2 license after course. Should have PG3 by end of year. Just need flights and hours for next level.
Once again some high quality, informative paragliding content from Greg. Thank you very much for your contribution to the paragliding scene! The value of your videos can't be overestimated.
Thank you.
Brecon to monmouthshire canal... i was fishing there lol...!
One f the best parts of flying is time with friends
Is there any way to figure out how high you have to be to go safely over the ridge and avoid the Venturi or lee?
on a related note, check out our video on How to Avoid the Rotor

What is a name of aap map plz
The old man group. Lol
It was a great race. Congratulations for your win, Greg. It was way too strong for my B wing all day. I sat on Turnpoint 3 for about 2 hours hoping it would settle down a bit, but it never did. It was my only chance to make goal. It wasn't going to happen walking, that's for sure. Another great video as always.
yeah it was a pity the wind didn't ease, as forecast. that would have made the task very interesting.
I’m a fresh newbie
Great to see the reasoning for everything in the air.
Happy to take my time with my own progression
But really great to see what everyone else is doing and what they feel and why they do.
Give me a year
Things will change and these videos help me
Thanks Greg
Wow, Greg & Team!
So well explained :)
To the point and as elaborate as we can possibly expect - where new pilots like me would like to understand the approach to consider.
Thank you!
Ha 😅🤣😅 so much fun
Super video and excellent commentary - very VERY helpful!
VERY impressed that you chose the safer plowed field to land in rather than the almost irresistible “main landing field”!
VERY wise ..Thanks for your advice !
In Brazil Romulo PQD. also went to fetch the cloud with a paraglider
Thanks so much for this Greg. It all seems so obvious when you talk us through it. Up in the air alone it always seems a lot more difficult with doubt and consequence always keeping you honest.
You and your team's other videos have been a huge help in my first year of flying 🇿🇦. Thanks so much 👍
Congratulations on a brilliant performance and deserved 1st place in the Mini-Dragon!
Greg you are a super guy and top man! Thanks for posting.
I did not know "paraglider scientist" was an actual job description.
Thanks for all your videos! It's very interesting and informational.
Wow, that was incredible. Well done. I learned a lot from this video. You’re awesome brother.
No trnsport this ariya. Why bro,but butiful place
Had me wondering if people travel from state to state like that
Great clip, learned a lot from this. Thanks for posting and congrats on the win!
Well done Greg great flying! bloody Gail hanger LOL.
very informative .. thank you
Brilliant video Greg! Great flight - very well done.
all that and you didn't show the landing??
Cracking flight Greg! Thank you for making the video.
By the way, Dan didn't just have any old mini wing! The Air Design Susi 3 16m would have got him from the summit of Pen Allt Mawr to goal if he'd flown! (so Greg would still have won) Someone did a 50km triangle on the 13m version this summer :)
Great stuff Greg, thanks for sharing :-)
Nice one Greg, well done!
Massive thanks for the creation and sharing of this video. It good to know that I’ve kind of pick-up the same mindset as you when it comes to escape routes. Flying Snowdonia can be a real nightmare in strong conditions and in all honesty I’m super cautious. Sometimes I look at the wind as if it was water and the terrain being the river bed. With over 300+ PG flights in my back garden without a single accident, I must be doing something right but I feel that I’m way too cautious which can be annoying as it keeping me from evolving to a higher-level pilot like you. Again, thank you for sharing your professionalism. Excellent knowledge is key in this sport.
👍👍🇧🇷🇧🇷🦅🦅
Thank you very much for this nice video Greg. I'm a french pilot, mostly flying in french (south) Alps. Before I find your channel, few months ago, I didn't know the potential of flying in Wales. Now, I plan to do a trip next year in your beautiful playground. Thanks again and keep going !
we can’t forget your smile man ..lots of love from gorkha
Wow! Watch out Chrigel!
Such a fantastic opportunity to show real life, 3D and your thoughts all together! The best PG tutorial ever.
Greg. Hi from Venezuela, please we need you to Test and review the Flow brand. Specially the Flow Fusión and Spectra which is selling well in Colombia and Venezuela
Just watched again and enjoyed. Lots of very good pointers and reminders when flying in strong conditions, thank you. Why are some viewers giving this the thumbs down?
incredibile! thank you for your videos!!! they teach a lot! :)
nice place !!
!
Nice flying Greg!
amazing
Seems like a interesting way to travel. And seems like a good way to read the land to see where everything is at
If you run with paraglider - it means business :)
there is no safety in strong winds
What’s your personal wind limit?
Good stuff............enjoyed it!
what's the inflatable thing you have in your strike?
What app were you useing to track yourself looks really cool
thanks for taking us on your adventures!
Thanks for taking us along on your flight! :)
How to catch the height during gliding
What do yo mean with "quick punch to the glider"? "Kill switch" do you mean to give the breaks a good wak to stall it suthenly?
There's a video linked in the description... He pulls a frontal collapse as soon as he's on the ground, then runs towards the glider pulling inthe brakes and aims for the glider fabric to hold on to.

:)
X country on foot. Not fun for most.
How much windspeed is necessary for paragliding
0, because you can run to get it started.
What is your "kill switch" technique exactly ?
