    He was a great man, he was alway clear and reasonable, once you watch more of his conversations you will see same pattern from all the inquisitors.

    Personally, I would make a provisional assertion that God doesn't exist. I'm open to being corrected, but everything I currently know seems to indicate that this is true.

      I'm with you, technically I would be agnostic. But on a scale of 0 = believer, 10 = pure positive atheist. I Would be 9.9.
      As every point of evidence, conjecture, and proofs of it do not stand up to even a cursory examination. At best they are 2000 year old eye witness statements. At worse they are postulations of sheep herders trying to explain the entire universe.
      Is there a god? if we look at it like a court situation "Beyond a reasonable doubt" then it would be no.

    When C.H. asserts there's no god, I think he's basically referring to the Christian/Jewish/Muslims' "gods", and saying they don't exist, and I agree with him. No being with perfect morality would deliberately cause harm to other sentient beings. The story of Jesus' (God's) life and sacrifice is patently ridiculous. Jesus = God. As Matt Dillahunty always phrases it: he invents "sin", declares all his creations "sinners", pretends to be upset when his creations screw up even though he knew they would (he created them that way), but he decides to be pissed off for it and decides to sacrifice himself to himself in atonement for these "sins". It's completely ridiculous.

    This video tellingly ignores the first part of what Hitchens said (strange, given how brief the excerpt is. Only 42 seconds, as you note). He said that he's never seen any persuasive evidence for the existence of god AND he's made a real effort to study the arguments for the existence of god. Finding nothing in either place (evidence and argument), he feels comfortable in his claim.
    Substitute anything else for "god" in that equation, and you, as well, would be justified in your claim that such a thing does not exist.

    You really need to do less watching of Hitchens and more listening .
    Hitchens also stated he couldn’t prove the sky demon doesn’t exist but there is absolutely know evidence of it and if true…how pathetic IT was…
    People. Watch the debates not just this man’s “opinion” or snipits. It’s an injustice and quite false to assume a snippet justifies any criticism without the full context.
    Please try harder sir. We’re still watching.

    Is it reasonable to assert there are no leprechauns? Is it necessary to qualify such a claim?

      the leprechaun question is genuine, I’ve been thinking about this atheist assertion question lately; why are there different expectation for similar inquiries? If they differ, then how so?

    • @thinkingtheology
      @thinkingtheology  5 місяців тому +1

      @mnptm That is likely the case, although anyone who doesn't immediately slam religionists can be taken for a devotee of one kind or another. That is of course short-sighted, as the moniker doesn't state whether the thinking is in favor of or against theology, merely that the analysis will be on theooglhcal topics.

    • @thinkingtheology
      @thinkingtheology  5 місяців тому

      @@mnptm Regarding the leprechauns, if someone can think it, an argument could be made that they exist in at least one context. One can say "I don't believe at all that there are leprechauns," and that would settle it in that instance. It honest mean they do or don't exist, merely that the person making the claim says that there is no physical evidence for such beings.

    I would assert that for the most part, the prevalence of purported 'god belief' is simple cultural necessity.
    Most modern societies were formed under the requirement that you believe or you were either killed, ostracized, persecuted, shunned or such. Sure, Judaism didn't generally do that, but christianity and islam certain abided by those methods and still do.
    So that prevalence question is easy to answer.

  • @emp-ty-g

    it's not a fair statement to say i believe god exists without any proof.
    as long as it's not proven he doesn't exists for us.
    what Christopher should have said was, i don't believe your claim about god is real. please proof it.
    you wouldn't take others things on faith. with is a word you use, when you can't proof what you are claiming

  • @marcelkuizenga

    God are just as true as Santaclaus. Hitchens was right. The real problem is the very last sentence in this video. It's all about his personal view on whatever is reasonable. Truth isn't personal!

    • @thinkingtheology
      @thinkingtheology  5 місяців тому

      @marcelkuizenga You had me until your last sentence. Truth is always personal, as you cannot extricate yourself from the reality of perception, including how you process what you've perceived, from notions of reality. All belief is subjective regardless of whether it reflects some larger, absolute construct. We are still limited by our five senses and cognitive capacities, which philosophers--scientists among them--have wrestled with for ages.

    • @marcelkuizenga
      @marcelkuizenga 5 місяців тому

      @@thinkingtheology Don't try to fool me. You are trying to leave room for the god you believe in. Because if you aren't an atheist, you must be a theist. That's why you like truth to be personal. But you're wrong! Truth has nothing to do with a personal perception. Believes can be based on personal experiences, but believes aren't a reliable pathway to truth. So, the real questions are; Do you care about truth? And why are you a theist?

    • @thinkingtheology
      @thinkingtheology  5 місяців тому

      @marcelkuizenga You've already fooled yourself into thinking I believe in a particular god, or any god at all. Your anger and dogmatism comes through more loudly than you suspect.

    • @marcelkuizenga
      @marcelkuizenga 5 місяців тому

      @@thinkingtheology You yourself said you aren't an atheist. That means you must be a theist. Or you don't understand atheism. And you're still wrong! Because your (personal) reasonability has nothing to do with truth. So again, do you care about truth? And why do you (not an atheist) believe in a god?

    I would never be afraid to make it known that I am a Christian believer. But also I am one who mis trusts any kind of "Church or Religious organisation" pushing same point of christianity a much is a form of crowd control. BUT still see myself as a christian and a poet and neither conected (LoL). I also do not trust one who appears to push their belief OR non Belief onto others. Because both can fall down that same road of dictating their belief or non belief onto anyone else.
