I absolutely love this series they did with the connected pairings/relationships. As you said, it was like watching a movie with an absolutely amazing soundtrack, but also the songs can stand on their own too. They also included messages in their MV descriptions that were in support of the community and people's freedom to love.
no way! onlyoneof???? i’m here for it! edit: glad you enjoyed it! i discovered onlyoneof when libido dropped, because the choreo went viral lol but i definitely dont regret checking out more by them! their b-sides slap, seriously. its also cool that theyre involved not only in the music making but also choreo a lot! and "be" series is one of the cutest and sweetest things ever. as a queer person myself, i loved it so damn much. you're lucky being able to watch it all at once, we had to wait a month every single time between these music videos lol it would be cool if you could / want to check out some of their b-sides. much love xx
OnlyOneOf is def uderrated. I got into them when they came to my theater to perform in NYC so I got to see them for free cuz I worked there. I knew exactly ONE song and had 2 days to listen to their discography. They are so good live and they had super fun personalities and stage presence despite not knowing much english. Their choreo def has more suggestive element to it which complements the lgbtq elements and queer positivity of their branding. I actually hadn't heard their Be series so I am glad you are reacting to it. Songs I would suggest: Gaslighting Dopamine Gravity Mirage Sage
@@shanequagreen8409 Oh for sure, I loved them so much. Now I have a new rule, I am willing to go see any (new to me) group as long as the tickets are under 100. I've seen 3 other groups with this new rule (CIX, ITZY & ACE).
LMAO, @7:22 "I feel like I'm watching a musical Semantic Error... IFYKYK." The tone in which you said IFYKYK was just too cute/funny. I will def. be adding this group to one of my spotify PL.
I didn't know this series existed Omg it's actually perfect..... Hold up lemme send it to my mom and sisters quick fast, I can't be the only one in my household knowing of this series of songs🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️
I saw them in April and let me tell you, they're SO talented. They put on such a good performance and the VOCALS were freaking immaculate. I wish Korea was more open about this stuff because not only are they representing the community correctly but the music is also amazing but people won't check them about because they think OOO are doing this for attention. They're one of the only groups who take this seriously and take the time to understand the community despite the backlash.
Omg i recognize them for going viral for the libido chorus but never knew them so this is such a new group and music to me and it being queer is just cherry on top. I admittedly wasn't vibing with the music first but oh my god do the songs slap as it progressed I love this. Thanks for reacting to this loui!
4:33 actually Korea is getting better by releasing many BL dramas these days, "Semantic Error" and "to my star" are one of my favorite BLs (boy love dramas)🙂 Surprisingly, there's also a Korean BL reality dating show called "His Man Season 3" , which I didn't expect from Korea, and the Show is airing right now. I would love to see your reaction to this dating show-I think you might be interested in watching it and since it's a reality show about real people, not scripted drama, you seem to be interested I think it would be fun and interesting to watch! It just started two weeks ago, and I'm obsessed with it! 😭🤧❤️
Unfortunately they are from a small company with not a great budget for full fledged MVs but here are some recommendations for more reaction vids: Skinz, Chrome Arts (choreo), Gaslighting (choreo), Suit Dance (choreo) Seoul Drift. Dance practice vids: Dora Maar, Candybomb. Audio only: Picasso, Ultimate Bliss, Tear of God, Byredo and their ‘Produced by myself’ songs, Night Flight, Coy, Question Mark. The oldest and youngest, KB and Nine are active with writing, composing, arranging & general production. I also highly recommend watching all the behind of scenes of all the vids you watched - what totally turned me into “LyOn” (fandom name) was watching the Produced by myself behind the scene vids
Ayyyy why did my algorithm just recommended me this and not sooner!! I liked your reaction, it's nice to watch people just vibing with the music sometimes. I'm a proud lyOn and I'm so happy you give them a chance :)
Omg, I watch your reactions cause of mainly bts and ren but I’m so excited you’re giving onlyoneof a go! They’re one of my favs, I recently graduated with my music degree and I’m p sure they were one of my top artists that got me through uni lmao. Ik you like it when artists produce their own stuff so I really recommend you listen to their ‘produced by [myself]’ content! They were split into their subunits and each given 2 weeks to produce a demo for a song (which they documented the process for). The demos were then released and lyons (their fans) voted on which they liked best. The group with the top demo got a prize and the demo was made into a full song. I won’t spoil which unit won but lyons liked all three demos so much the company was bullied into making all of them full songs lmao
I just stumbled on this, and watched the whole thing! You summed up something super important when you said that it feels respectful, not like they're using queerness as an aesthetic or a cash grab or something. There's plenty of behind-the-scenes stuff to back that up - they've really been thoughtful about it, and care about the community. (LOU has a great video on the start of the solo series btw, called OnlyOneOf’s take on queer representation in k-pop: YooJung’s begin). But also, the music is so good! They have so much input into their visuals, storytelling, choreo and music; Nine and KB in particular produce a lot of their tracks, but they've all done some writing/producing. Hope you check out more of their stuff ^^
I still can’t believe I saw them live I took pictures with kb and nine Kb has the softest hands and face I’ve ever felt in my life and I’m not over-exaggerating 😩
I love then. Their music is so good that it's almost a crime that it's under-appreciated, please check out more music. Ps. the youngest is the leader and producer of almost most of their songs
Aah, wished you could have seen them in concert this year, they are wrapping up their world tour in Melbourne right now as I type this. I love them SM.
hiii loui, where do you take suggestions for reactions?? i’d love you to react to Riize, they’re also a recent group and their sound it’s really nostalgic, i feel like you’re really gonna like them! there vocals are really good and their performance pffff
Hii!! I love your reactions and I really want to make some artists recommendations!! Idk if you are taking recommendations right now though. But i really hope you can react to Xdinary Heroes and Woodz someday!! Xdinary Heroes is an amazing k-rock band from JYP and Woodz is a great soloist that you need to know!! I hope you can listen to their albums someday cause they are some artists that also deserves more recognition ❤
As a lesbian, I don't really know how to feel about this group's "gay" concept. On the one hand, it's nice to see some LGBTQ rep in k-pop. On the other, it feels like they're targeting straight women who enjoy BL dramas and find the idea of two guys kissing hot, not actual queer people. I also have to wonder how much control these guys have. Do they enjoy doing this or is the company making them do it? Overall, I'm not really in favor of using queerness as a concept. Especially when the artist isn't actually queer.
They do have a lot of control over what they do. This whole thing started because one of the members watched a queer movie and he was like: "Hey I want to do that too." (Obviously very simplified). They also helped choreograph Libido (it was a lot tamer before). The two members Nine and Kyubin also helped write most of the Solo songs. So, they are definitely involved. I always find it hard to say that someone is not an LGBTQ+ artist when they haven't explicitly said so. They could simply not be out yet. It is more difficult when talking about real people. Plus they have a lot of queer fans when you look at their concerts and comments (I think more than straight girls). One time a lesbian couple even proposed during their concert, which the members were more than happy to help with. They also always take the pride flags on stage that their fans give them and even set a record for having the most Pride flags on stage. I hope this context helped to clear it up a little bit.
Had the same doubts before getting into them, and was luckily proven wrong multiple times. Their support and representation feels genuine judging from what the members have said and done, even when the company has tried stepping into the more grey area bl market at times. But they also received a lot of backlash (both from korean and international audiences) for these queer themes, and I respect them/the creative directors for continuing to include them despite this. Their concept was naturally fitting for this as they explored sexuality, religious guilt and psychology in their music before having explicitly queer storylines in their work. A survey was done on twitter and it came to light that ~94% of the fans were lgbtq+, which doesnt surprise me.
I personally disagree with you, and I speak as a queer person. First of all they are not forced, they have full control of the concepts and I think it's fantastic. As we know, Korea is still a very homophobic country so having groups that so openly support the LGBT community is really important. furthermore we cannot assume the sexual orientation of the members, they could all be straight (and therefore making mv of this genre is very nice, it shows their support), just as they could be queer themselves and they use feminine adjectives in the songs to avoid censorship in radio. There are very few openly queer artists in Korea and they all face difficulties due to coming out, this would explain the reason for "girl/woman". obviously we can't know until they're alone talking, but either way I find these gestures very meaningful
I understand where you’re coming from as a queer person myself, but I disagree. I have been to their concerts before and a majority of the people there are LGBTQ+ (looked like it could have been its own pride celebration), so I don’t think they’re aimed specifically at straight women who fetishize gay men. Hell, they’ve even recently performed in a gay club on their Europe Tour. The members are very aware of their audience. Because people lose their jobs and whole reputations for being openly queer in South Korea, we may never really know if all the members are straight or queer themselves. Personally, I don’t have a problem with that because regardless of their own sexual orientations, they are making and showing gay storylines that come from a place of genuine care and interest. They face the backlash and the censorship for it all anyway. The music videos for their solos (the series called Underground Idol) have notes in the description about love and the discrimination queer people face, communicating their support for queer people. Even if the first song that was shown, Libido, had used the word “girl,” their song Suit Dance and one of their Japanese singles are love songs where the beloved is a man. They are also vocal about their hand in songwriting and choreographing the dances. In the end, I get the fear and frustration, I just want to provide a bit more context on what they’re up to and assure you that they are certainly not just catering to cishet women.
