Ohh yes, but 5imes out of 10 its a catchy song or jingle you can't stand!...yes this is a good one, but it all goes to hell when you have the Empire Carpet jingle or...heaven forbid...The devil's tune...1-877 Cars for kids....that's the 9th circle of hell!....LMAO....but for me lately. They've been good tunes..Thank God!...lol
Every time I hear this song, I have to have a slice of toast. When I was a little boy, I'd be getting ready for school eating breakfast, which was always toast. The radio would be playing as I ate breakfast, and this song always came on everyday around the time I was eating. And so, here's a "toast" to Squeeze. Thanks for the great song.
A truly iconic single in the UK when I lived there in the early 1980's, "Tempted" was composed by band member Chris Dillford as he rushed in a cab heading for Heathrow for the band's first continental tour. The Squeeze's two brilliant but quirky songwriters, Dillford and Glenn Tillbrook - along with the band's producer, the even more talented Elvis Costello - were considered by many British rock fans and critics at the time to be the successors to Lennon and MacCartney. While their reign as popmasters proved to be somewhat short-lived, their body of work was prodigious. Band member Paul Carrack sings the lead on "Tempted," backed up by Dillford, Tillbrook, and Costello. After this fetching Top Ten single was released, many Squeeze fans would throw toothbrushes in Rocky Horror-style onstage when Carrack sang the opening line: "I bought a toothbrush..."
My friend, Rick Berkley, was a great singer, and included this song in one of his sets. I think of Rickey every time I hear this wonderful song. RIP Rickey, we sure miss your face!❤
This song was a real gem from the British band Squeeze. This new version sounds really good with digital mixing, mastering, and some new instrumentation put in. This was always a very.special song to a lot of people. Great stuff from the 80s.
This my mom and i’s friendship song. This has been our song since 2004. We decided that once we listened to it on her laptop after dinner one Thursday night in 2004. We were at our old house in echo mill at that time. I still remember what we had for dinner that night. It was spaghetti and warm breadsticks and salad. I also remember what she wore during dinner and for the song. It was her Calvin Klein overalls. After dinner i remember asking her if she had time to listen to our song before she went to work that night and she said yes. Now it’s one of greatest memories that my mom and i have made together. I will always cherish and hold that memory so dear to my heart. After that night it became our song and it still is to this very day weather we listen to it on the radio or on UA-cam. In fact her and i just listened to it on her phone as i walked her to her car when she went to meet her friends for dinner. Yes she has the UA-cam app on her phone. Thank god. Now her and i can always pull up our song on the UA-cam app anytime we want and relive the day when it became our song. Thank you so much for posting this. It means so much to my mom and i to have our song on here. I love you mom. Thank you so much for this amazing memory that you and i made together. It means so much to me. In fact it’s one of the greatest gifts that you have given to my heart.
I play bass and play both of these songs. The words / tune for Tempted were written by Chris Difford and Clenn Tillbrook. Paul Carrack had replaced Squeeze piano player Jools Holland. Producer Elvis Costello suggested Carrack sing the song instead of Tillbrook. G.T. wanted to sing it, but once he heard Carrack... It was a no-brainer. Carrack wrote "How Long" about his bass player, who was thinking about quitting Ace. Bass player wisely stayed.

This version is the best one - and it’s not on Spotify!! I wonder why. Something about this recording is just really great and feels more put together than the original.
The song was re-recorded by the band for the film "Reality Bites" and is called "Tempted '94" on the soundtrack. An amazing re-recording of the 1981 original. You have a good ear to notice the differences.
this man is right, the version played often on the radio is the re-recording in 1994. I was so confused listening to the original version thinking it didnt sound anything like what I heard on the radio. until I found this comment!
I came across this version first when looking for it here and could tell right away it wasn't the recording in my memory - the tracks were too pronounced. This is a better mix, but I still prefer the original vocal inflections.
My orthopedic. Doctor play's Pink Floyd... So i said to the doctor great album... The assistant didn't know who Pink Floyd is r even the Beatles! She is a great kid... Love her❤

Always loved this song ever since the 90s movie 🍿 “Reality Bites” with Ben Stiller. I was just a kid when the movie released but this song will always be a favorite. #stilllistening2020

Wow that's a fascinating story about nothing! 😅 JK bro that's so awesome hear.
The song Toast used to come on when I was tempted to have breakfast in America just before school. 😂 squeeze, streetband and supertramp references.
Dang it. Thx a lot, now I’m craving toast.
Paul Carrick the most underrated singer ever! Guy kicks total ass!

Probably because it wasn't a big hit. Think it got stuck outside the top 40. Shame.
My favorite song!!!
Everyone that played GTA Vice City knows it, lol.
I know! Makes ya wonder where the hell they been.
Paul Carrack.... The Voice
This song should have more like 50 million views.
Squeeze - way under rated - great songs - perfect inuendo
This group's writing and musical arrangements were phenominal. I love Glenn Tilbrook's vocals. ❤🎶
Agree! He has the coolest voice I just realized.
it’s Paul Carrack on vocals for this song
Wiki says.. "Tempted" is one of a few Squeeze songs with Paul Carrack as lead vocalist, at the suggestion of producer Elvis Costello.
glenn does get a couple lines in the second verse
This song is a real class act. It's a breath of fresh air every time!

I love this arrangement, can’t find it on Spotify so I think I’ll just come here and listen to it instead!
Ashes to Ashes has just reminded me what a brilliant song this is. Brings back so many memories of my favourite workplace in the early 80's 😪
might be my all time MTV favorite song.
I was riding a 1979 Honda CBC.
I was on Top of the World when this song came out....
Joe Sanseverino do you still wear your letterman jacket around by chance?...
Ben Krause
I wasn't a jock. Still wear 501 Levis. I'm 61 now and still listen to classic rock.
U damn right buddy!!!
Why did this comment make me tear up? Holy shit, age has made me sappy.

Great song from the 80's; I'm suprised Squeeze did not have more hits.
This is the only “correct” version. They keep the organ more prominent and this take is perfect
This song is playing at a random denny's in florida and I'm here listening to it. High as fuck. Bopping my head
It's nice to know that a British group is being appreciated in florida.👍🏾❤🎶
Bruh. In Florida now at a Hilton. This was playing at the bar while I was tanning. Apparently this may be one of Florida's songs.

I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste
A flannel for my face
Pajamas, a hairbrush
New shoes and a case
I said to my reflection
"Let's get out of this place"
Passed the church and the steeple
The laundry on the hill
Billboards and the buildings
Memories of it still
Keep calling and calling
But forget it all, I know I will
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
What's been going on
Now that you have gone
There's no other
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
I'm at the car park, the airport
The baggage carousel
(The people keep on grindin')
Ain't wishing I was well
I said it's no occasion
(It's no story I could tell)
At my bedside empty pocket
A foot without a sock
Your body gets much closer
I fumble for the clock
Alarmed by the seduction
I wish that it would stop
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
What's been going on
Now that you have gone
There's no other
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
I bought a novel, some perfume
A fortune all for you
But it's not my conscience
That hates to be untrue
I asked of my reflection
Tell me what is there to do?
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
What's been going on
Now that you have gone
There's no other
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
Tempted by the fruit of another

Excellent song soul.
I can't believe that this was from 1981. It seems to have a more "modern" feel to it. Great song either way!
I never knew this song came out in 1981. I always thought it sounded like something from the late 60s!
