  • Santa came early this year.
    Playing an Emerald X7 parlor.
    I forgot to mention in the video that it came with light strings, which I found too heavy, so I put custom lights on it (D'Addario EJ26).
    I also forgot to mention the neck has a shallow C profile, very comfortable.
    More specs emeraldguitars...
    I played the first part of "Silver Swan" by Scott Joplin in drop D tuning.
    Free lesson with tab (link in the videodescription)
    • Ragtime Guitar Lesson ...
    The second song, also in drop D tuning is an improvisation on Canned Heat by Tommy Johnson.
    I also did a lesson on it (not exactly what I played here but close - open the videodescription for info)

      At first I thought you were going to play a slack key Hawaiian tune. Loved it all the same.

    Hello from England, I have the Virtuo model from Emerald. I'm a frail 77 yr old and I like the light weight and the ergonomics of this guitar. Thank you for some lovely music. Just subbed.

    Parlor does it for me, when I purchased my PRS Tonare It was a revelation.....so much more comfort with smaller guitars I think.
    When this video popped up I remembered seeing this guitar on another one you did ..........something about a portable ash tray
    😬 sorry it sounds lovely!
    Great rendition of Canned Heat Carl

    Congratulations on the new guitar. Sounds good. I enquired about one of these many years ago to take to Spain with me. I think it was when he was just setting up the business and it took a long time for the reply and in the meantime I ordered a Brunner which is long gone........

      thanks Phil, they reply lightning fast now and also have a nice selection that's available immediately. Since I sold the Greven 00 I didn't have one with rosewood for the more "beautiful" instrumentals, hence the Emerald for some crystal clear notes.

    Hello Daddystovepipe, love your Channel. Thanks for showing and demonstrating your new Emerald Parlor Guitar. Congrat - I think you must be one of the happiest guitar player, to own this. This guitar is really beautiful and the sound is incredible!! Wish you a lot of fun with it and hope it will inspire you making more YT Videos with it 😊 Is it the normal Guitar tuning or how did you tuned it? I ask about it because you mentioned something about a normal Guitar with Capo on the second fret. 🤔
    Stay safe and healthy and be blessed and Kind regards from Germany, Bettina

    • @daddystovepipe
      @daddystovepipe  3 роки тому +4

      Thanks for the kind words Bettina. It's tuned to drop D (DADGAD low to high). What I meant with the capo is that this guitar has a short scale of 24" (about 60cm - the distance between nut and saddle). A normal guitar has a scale of 25",50 or 25". So, if you would put a capo on the first or second fret of a guitar with a long scale (25.50 or 25"), it would feel like you're playing a guitar with a 24", short, scale. This illustrates the difference between a guitar with a long or short scale.

    Ahhh Scott Joplin. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve viewed that John James video of him playing that beautiful tune.
    Interesting material, it’s gonna be interesting to hear how it shapes for the blues against your Greven guitars, Gibson’s ect?

    What an interesting little instrument. I’ve heard some female players like the similar rounded back/top edge on Ovations because they don’t, um, collide with female chest anatomy as much 😄 so another point for comfort. It sounds damn good too.

    Thank you for the video. How would you describe the sound compared to a wood guitar?

    • @daddystovepipe
      @daddystovepipe  3 роки тому

      It's very rich sounding, comparable to my (sold) Martin CEO7; but it has its own character. The off centre soundhole is very important in how you perceive the sound.

      @@daddystovepipe So, it sounds closer to a wood body than a resonater? If you were to reference a similar tone wood which one would it be?

    Non capisco la recensione in inglese e mi dispiace. Chitarra bella, suono equilibrato, suonata benissimo al meglio delle sue qualità. Ma..... No, il carbonio no, il suo suono stanca presto perchè manca il timbro del legno. Il carbonio nel blues no, possiamo accettare il metallo dobro, ma solo carbonio per il blues fa soffrire.
