No slow movement in this sonata, what a crazy guy was Beethoven... A revolutionary, an artist, a genius, a warrior, a brave, a believer, a king, an angel, a pastor, a fury... a miracle.

Adria Torras this is just an incredible sonata, even for Beethoven! I don't know why it's not more well known. If there is a "slow" movement, it's the first. And what a first movement--just incredibly lyrical and melodic. And, that scintillating tarantella finale is a perfect contrast to the opening.

@@timothythorne9464 Wouldn't the third movement be considered the "slow" mvt? The first one is a brisk Allegro

@@wolfgang4067 1st mvt is marked "Allegro" but it's in no way a typical allegro, with prolonged note values and only a couple of fast runs, with soft dynamics. It's pretty laid back.

Not only am I in awe of this composer as one of, if not THE, greatest human to have ever lived, but I'm equally moved by those who attempt to capture his intent and feeling. Bravo!

I have studied this masterwork off and on for many years. To achieve the character it needs in spite of its technical challenges is no mean feat. This young man has done it, in spades. His playing seems effortless and his sound is just beautiful -- clear as a bell and never heavy. He is as expert with his feet as with his hands. He also never indulges in lily gilding -- there is no over-interpretation here. He does what Beethoven asks, contributing much of his own without the me, me, watch me of some pianists I could name but won't. I particularly want to mention the tempo of the Scherzo, which in my opinion is often played too fast for my taste. The tempo marking in the Henle edition is Allegretto Vivace. What he does feels just right to me.
    A really masterful performance.

    0:14 I. Allegro
    6:22 II. Scherzo
    11:33 III. Menuetto - Trio (12:38, see Saint-Saens variations Op. 35)
    15:27 IV. Presto con fuoco
The sonata is also nicknamed "The Hunt", of course not by Beethoven himself.

Matej Zecic this is truly a princess in the Beethoven piano sonata canon. It's so lyrical and personal in its heartfelt sentiment throughout. It's disgraceful it's not more popular; I would rate it among the master's finest creations in this genre.
It should have been more popular, if only for the longing, twilight dreamy quality of the first movement, the humorous scherzo second movement, the lyrical menuetto third, and the irresistible tarantella finale, which compels you to dance! This whole sonata is a musical tour de force, and this performance is one of the best I've heard.

The same way you'd learn an easier piece. It just takes longer and require more patience and maturity. Definitely write in the fingering for any note/chord that isn't totally obvious. Learning it right the first time will save you a lot of headache down the road, even though it's really tedious.

The tempo is a horse runs, sometimes of a trot. A fox runs away sadly. but Maestro has no pity. And this pianist is also playing while laughing. I hates killing animals . I love "Hunt". Beethoven could'nt hear the horn signal, and this pianist has 'nt.

I noticed that, but I didn't mind it. The main theme and its following section are presented in the same key in the recapitulation, before Beethoven changes keys for the second theme. So, we're going to hear that opening section again, anyway. If everything goes well in the first statement in a competition, why take a chance that you might spoil it on the repeat? That's one possible theory. Plus, they have their programs timed to the second.

Bonne information - il faut dire a tous les mélomanes que cette tradition contestable habitait toute la musique de l époque , et que Beethoven a contribue à la relativiser.
