I really want to get into Robin Hobb and Brandon Sanderson, the books sound amazing! Adult high fantasy makes me nervous tho!
Assassin's Apprentice is a gentle introduction, deffo give it a try :)
I just picked up The Final Empire because you keep talking about Brandon Sanderson in your videos and I can’t wait to read it!! 😊
Really excited to pick up The Bargainer serie !
I loved Crescent City and Ship of Magic too! Great list.
yessss house of earth and blood was so amazing i was even more happy with it than i expected!! i can't wait for the next one - still no title but maybe coming out this year according to goodreads?? ahhhh
This was so fun to watch! I've only tried SJM from this list, and I'm excited to try the others + read Crescent City!
So very glad I found your channel. And Crescent City is my favorite book too.
Your fantasy romance on your best books is also on my best books, can’t beat a good fantasy romance. Some of my list is:
1. House of Earth and Blood this is top of the list too
2. The Bargainer series
3. From Blood and Ash & Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (can’t choose between the 2 so they get the same number)
4. Restless Slumber, loved the first one too and need to read the 3rd
Also honourable mentions is ACOTAR series and TOG series are in my favourite reads too as I read them for the first time this year after HOEAB thanks to you 🤗🖤🖤
The way your tone changed when introducing Crescent City as your number one book, lol. I like that you mentioned that fantasy romance and urban fantasy being shorter so we don't get to dive as deep into the world building, magic systems and relationships in the first books. I think both sub genres were not as trusted to do well from the beginning unless its an established popular author with a new series. So many of the series are super long and you build a connection as a fan over several books. I would like longer first books. And I always hope we get new series that have bigger page counts from the beginning when a big author does well with one. Fingers crossed after Crescent City again.
This is the best synopsis of the Crescent City I’ve heard- and I’ve heard many! You convinced me, thank you for a wonderful review ☺️
Just going to casually use this list as a TBR since we have such similar reading tastes! The Bargainer series is also one of my favs!
The Girl in the Tower is my favourite Winternight book too. Also predicting Crescent City as #1 The Final Empire and Addie will also be up there. Wait also some KJ Sutton will be here
You know me too well 😂
I bought Assassins Apprentice based on your reviews! I'm looking forward to getting to it
House of Earth and Blood was my favorite of the year too. Damn it was so good I cannot...
But after I started reading it I added it to my Goodreads "reading" and I saw the spoiler for what happens like 100 pages in which made the moment hit a little less hard! The book still hit hard though. Lots of moments (the friendship my GOD) made me cry several times.
Well of Ascension is my favorite of the Mistborn trilogy so I can't wait to see you get to it!
you have got me so hype to read robin hobb next year!
Hello! If you have time, you should totally do a fantasy romance recs video! I’m not familiar with many indie authors, so I’d love to know which ones are worth reading within the genre!
I think I've left you a comment to this effect before so sorry for the spam, but I think you might like Laurell K Hamilton's stuff. I grew up reading them so I may have my nostalgia goggles on, but I loved them so so much. Both her vampire hunter series and her Merry Gentry series are some of my all-time favorite fantasy romances. Though the Anita Blake books have a hefty dose of horror/mystery at the beginning of the series. Just because you love Fortuna Sworn and The Bargainer series so much. Anyway. End rant. Love you. Love your channel.
I’m nearly finished Rhythm of War! I’m a bit obsessed suddenly with Sanderson thanks to booktube 🤣 I also have only read the first book of Mistborn but I have the other two coming in the post! I love LOVE SA! And I’m really excited to get into Robin Hobb this year too!
What about Hunt...what about everything we’ve been through...❤️💫✨ Love your nails! So pretty! 😍😍💙
Love this! Wonderful List 👍
A very interesting list - I keep feeling like I need to finish her previous series before reading Crescent City - also need to start Mistborn
I think Addie has to be my best book of the year, I hadn't had a book leave such a lasting impact on me like that did, especially Henry's chapters, those were hard hitting for me. I would have to stick House of Earth and Blood on my most surprising list, I've never gotten along with SJM's books in the past and I ended up borrowing the ebook from my library and I was so surprised I ended up absolutely loving it!
Crescent City was also my favourite book of the year and the Mistborn series was another of my favourites from last year
Can I just say the tabs on The Final Empire are beautiful! I couldn't stop staring at them the entire time. The Final Empire was my favorite book of 2020 as well
Some of my favorite books of 2020 are: Home Before Dark by Riley Sager, The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James, Marilia, the Bastard (Chrysathamere Trilogy #1) by Morgan Cole which is a fantasy novel, Frost Heart by Jamie Littler, Chasing Lucky by Jenn Bennett, A Witch in Time by Constance Sayers which reminds me of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, but different in a way, The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta, The Hand on the Wall (Truly Devious #3) by Maureen Johnson.
There is a YA paranormal fantasy independent series that I really love called Tala Prophecy by Tia Sliverthorn Bach it is about a 17 year old girl who can not remember anything when her brother was taken while camping with her family, but then things begin to happen and finds her in the middle of different paranormal supernatural things that she thought were only in books. The first book is Chasing Memories and I find it to be underrated, but I don't know if this is something you would like like, but I thought I just throw it out there.
A historical fantasy type book I really enjoy that is also independent is The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg where it is about a society that has a school called Tagis Praff School for the Magically Inclined and when Ceony Twill graduates at the top of her class she is in a apprenticeship in paper magic despite her dreams of bespelling metal. She is bound to paper magic for the rest of her life. I just find it interesting. I love this kind of magic system. This series is hit or miss with people.
I would highly recommend the Fatemarked Series by David Estes. I can't wait to get into Robin Hobb and Brandon Sanderson in 2021, thanks for your reviews on those!
A few of my favourite books of the year were acotar, crecsent city, addie larue, heartstopper vol1-3 & nevermoor!
I’m so glad I never read the synopsis for crescent City because those 100-200 pages MURDERED ME
Definitely want to read Addie LaRue this year. It sounds wonderful. Such an interesting premise.
YES to The Bargainer! Sign me up to make a deal with the Bargainer thank you.
Havenfall was my favourite book of 2020 but Crescent City was a VERY close second 😍
Hey 👋🏻😊 Kind of early too 😆 Was just listening to Hamilton and I thought of your cat 😊 I have got to admit Brandon Sanderson books scare in a little in terms of how intense they seem to read 😳 I am going to be trying to read the final empire as one of my POPSUGAR prompts for this year
The Final Empire is the easiest to understand and get into so it's a great starting point!
Ahhh! I’m rereading all of Sarah J Mass this year and ending with Crescent City, which I haven’t read yet!
same!! i’m rereading ToG now (although i haven’t gotten a chance to read ToD or KoA yet); then i’ll reread the ACOTAR trilogy; then get to Crescent City 🤩😻💞
So far my favorite book of 2020 is The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow. It's basically romantic Jane Austen fanfiction following the life of Mary Bennet, the oft overlooked, socially awkward, ugly duckling of the Bennet sisters. The book is in phases, starting with Mary's early life and the events of Pride and Prejudice up to the Bingley ball (I'd say it's useful to have at least seen a Pride and Prejudice movie up to that point), the Colinses, and the Gardners. Anywho, I loved Mary's character development throughout the book and this is probably my favorite spin off from the series.
❄My top 5 favorite books of this year are :
🌟Keeper of The Lost Cities 💖
🌟 Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson 💖
🌟Seeking Persephone by Sarah M. Eden 💖
🌟The House in the Cerulean Sea 💖
🌟I love you so Mochi by Sarah Kuhn 💖
If you like romance fantasy you might check out Rhapsody: Child of Blood by Elizabeth Haydon. It is the first of a series of books. I do not see it on the shelves no more or mentioned every in book tube these days. The romance and the fantasy aspect are both really good.
I did enjoy Viscous more, but only slightly! Words of Radiance was actually on my favorites of the year, as did Addie LaRue!
I'm usually quite torn with CoHo books, and I rated her books 1 to 5 stars... so I never know if I will love or hate a book by her going into it. But It Ends with Us has to be my favorite. I am guessing it's because she is talking from experience? I think it stated somewhere that a member of her family went through the same thing the book will later touch.
I just feel sometimes her books are rushed and they talk about a serious topic but it's not represented in a good way? That wasn't the case here!
Oooo yes, it ends with us was on my list a couple years ago!
I totally knew these before I watched the video!!
Love that I called at least 4 of these!
My favorite fantasy series was The Three Dark Crowns. A hard hitting contemporary was The Far Field. It deals with the Kashmiri people and their lives.
I just read It Ends With Us. So good, I read it in one day. I’ve never read an entire book in one day.
I knew the top two before clicking on the video!!! 😍
I believe this a video game based on the Mistborn series. I have been curious but as I am not a game I have never actually looked into it. I imagine it could have cool scenes.
favorite book 2020- supernova marissa meyer and clap when you land elizabeth acevado.
Woman, I really need you to finish the Mistborn trilogy.
Yesss Robin Hobb was in my top books too :)
It ends with us...oh the emotions i felt. I was sobbing in the middle of the night while my kid was beside me lmaooo
Cant believe Blood and Ash didn’t make the list!
Haha I loved it but I only gave it 4 stars!
I just finished The Bear and the Nightingale. Let's be honest. If the rulsalka would have eaten Anna things would have been so much easier
I knew that Crescent City would be on there (I haven't read it but I'm going to read it next month as part of my February Fantasy Novel Month, which I made up) ❤❤🥰🥰
I thought I guessed all of these then It Ends With Us came out of left field
❤️
No way of kings?? If I removed correctly you enjoyed it more than final empire... 🤔
im here early yayyyyy
99.9% sure of the book at the top 🤔
🤭 new authors mmmmmm let me think 🤔 Think I may have worked out the top few....I think Kelsey will be right up there, she has to be. I am sure Crescent City was year before....god what a time to have a brain fart 💨
I have just forked out on the rest of the Wicked Villains series....sold already. It is a shame you hadn’t read that first book in 2020 as I would have put money on the first book being on this list.
Absolutely love how well you describe why you like a particular book and how you totally sell what you have read to your viewers...
Up to Addie LaRue and yep huge brain fart as to what the top books could be....🤔😖🤔
Bugger I should have known that “It ends with us” would be there as you have mentioned this book so so much
I've been a somewhat silent stalker lately 😬😬
