I listened to this interpretation in live streaming. On rare occasions I got so excited during a competition: I had tears in my eyes. By far the most beautiful sonata of this edition: thanks, dear Alexander.
I was listening to this while working on the computer when it livestreamed during the 3rd stage. But this Sonata played by Gadjiev made me drop everything and listen to it carefully. Words like breathtaking and profound fail to fully describe this
Folks, this is the performance that earned Alex the Final round. There was no other moment in the competition that left the audience enraptured to this degree. It was one of those "musical moments" that my high school band director used to long for: an almost holy or divine experience that no one can deny. It caught me completely off guard; and to a fault, everyone on the live chat was stunned. And it's not like this work is obscure or under-represented in the competition, rather the work of Gadjiev paid off to the benefit of everyone "in the moment."
My family always tells me that I am not given to crying about anything. This sonata moved something in my being, struck a chord. Thanks for this marvelous interpretation
Listening to it for the second time now, his performance really spoke to me in the livestream of the competition, and I'm convinced this was the most striking 24 minutes in the entire competition. He connected with the music, the audience, the livestream audience, the judges, the divine!
great romantic drive excellent performace ,not to talk about the professional control . For my taste better than the Bb sonata of the winner that did not reach my soul. bravissimo great playing of a supreme masterwork. Technique control musicality and soul.
First of all, thank you Gadjiev for this absolutely brilliant performance. Well deserved!!! Secondly, this prize just proves that Mr Zimmerman is an all-time legend - out of all the sonatas he listened to, he picked this particular one and rightly so, this is THE BEST sonata in b flat minor. Once again congrats and Grazie Gadjiev!!!
@@tralala827727 last edition Garrick Ohlsson said he would award the sonata prize to Kate Liu, so its more likely that Zimmerman chooses the award winner
15:21 The use of the sustain pedal to make the upper voices more colorful is absolutely genius... I've never heard this passage played this way before.
Bravissimo!!!
Einfach atemberaubend!
that final chord of the first movement was jaw dropping just the way he brought down the dynamic from the traditional loud final chord to a more rounded and subtle chord
Hamowana pasja Gadjeva przemawia do mnie bardziej niż wyluzowana lekkość Brusa.
A truly magnificent performance! Everything seems judged and executed just right: tempo, phrasing, dynamics, rubato, pedalling, etc. I am sorry he was not awarded first prize, l take solace knowing that we'll hear a great deal of him in the coming years. After all, Trifonov also was a runner-up at the 2010 competition.
That long crescendo in the Funeral March. Wow. I'm speechless
Acertou. The crescendo was beautiful...was just looking a bit more magic in the finale but I can see why he was given the best sonata special mention.

So many breathtaking sonatas in this competition!
This is one of them!
I prefer Miya’s. But Alexander is super as well.
I loved Hayato's, so inspired
so glad he won the sonata prize

4:53 -5:45 this moment has always been sort of unnaturally played by other performers. Here it sounds very impressive.

Absolutely brilliant and stunning. I have listened to many great pianists perform this Sonata, and Alexander is at the top

Probably the best b-flat minor sonata I heard in the past 10 years in this competition or anywhere else! Bravo maestro!

I agree!
Among the top 3 in the competition!
I agree! The best!
Yes, i agree too! Ideal performance!❤
Incredible performance, congratulations for winning the Sonata prize.
Every note touched my heart and made me cry. He is not only a great pianist, but also a philosopher.
Now I love the Kawai

If I´m not mistaken it´s the jury who decides who is going to get the prize, not Mr Zimerman. He only provides the money. :)

Simply amazing. Passionate, mature and delicate at the same time. It was first performance in the competition that made me feel so moved. True artist!

Ok, so I'm not the only one ;)

Fantastic sound! Bravo Gadjiev!
4th movement...just perfect
Since then,,, I hear to this performance at least twice a week. His sonata is #1!!
Najlepsze wykonanie jakie słyszałem.
Alex is my most favourite pianist in this Chopin competition, and the piano he chose is my new found favourite instrument.
S. Kawai was amazing!

The best Sonate that I’ve heard!
Aleksander Gadjiew The Best.
wonderful sonata....
Every note and dynamic had significance in this brilliant performance by Alexander! And yes, the Funeral March crescendo @ 19:45 that was unrivaled!

Aleksander Gadjiev is Slovenia’s best pianist. He played this sonata perfectly!
Wonderful Chopin touch

Very beautiful. Who else hears Ivo Pogorelich's sonata in Alexander's playing? I hear so much inspiration...
Agree, specially the first movement
The Lento section of the Scherzo is just totally sublime.
That decrescendo at the climax around 5:00 is out of this world.
Belíssima!
❤❤❤
He kicked it out of the ball park. It feels likes he's talking here
This performance is so amazing, hope he will be more successful in the future.
Unbelievable! ❤💐🙏🕊️
Aplausos !

The piano is exceptional for a Kawai.

Why was he in third place?
He is a person who can compete for victory.

Mr. Hamelin?
Chopin was a pretty good composer. LOL.
Why is it so fast?
Quel dommage ! !
Did you copy Yulianna avdeeva????
His playing can't approach Chopin's spirit.
