    I had a serendipitous encounter with this body of work. Last week I was flying back from the West Coast, lucky enough to have a window seat, and saw these strange circles emerge on the ground below. Compelled to grab my camera, which was loaded with black and white film, I captured these perfect geometric shapes strewn across the desert plain.
    I had no idea what they were but I was riveted to the window.
    That night I got an email from Photo-Eye Books, announcing the release of One Hundred Circle Farm, and learned that these strange circles were the result of "center-pivot irrigation systems." I'm fascinated by Mr. Gowin's work and glad to share his curiosity.
