Some of my favorite boy bands have been NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men, the Jackson 5 (I still consider them a boy band), and BTS. But honestly I just love music so I probably have listened to all the groups you've mentioned. I always have mixed feelings about this topic. Because boy bands are still prevalent, you just have to look beyond the US and the UK, and kpop is taking over in these countries now. In Asia there is more of a collective mentality and here in the US there is more of an individualistic mentality. Years ago one of the members of BTS asked a member of another group who had been together for a long time what the key was to keeping a group together for a long time. And they said something along the lines of they look at the member's individual success as something that benefits the group as a whole and not just the person who achieved it. That's a very hard thing to do if you come from a place that doesn't have that same mentality. But there are groups who are still together like the Backstreet Boys have never broken and are still together after 31 years. New Kids on the Block reunited years ago and still tour and I'm still hoping for an actual NSYNC reunion tour someday. But something I've loved about BTS is that they have managed to not just have group success but each member has had solo success too while remaining in the group. But I do think it's cool that some of the biggest groups in the world are from South Korea and have music in a language that most foreigners don't speak. That's quite the accomplishment if you ask me.

In my opinion, NKOTB had the most influence on the boy bands of the 1990s. While Donnie Wahlberg has expressed admiration and respect for New Edition, he has also acknowledged that NKOTB's first album had a very similar style to theirs, which resulted in a resounding failure. This experience motivated nkotb and Maurice Starr to seek out their own style and a new audience. They focused on highlighting the individuality of each member, a strategy that would later be replicated by groups like Backstreet Boys, Take That, and Spice Girls. It is undeniable that New Edition appeared first on the music scene, but that does not take away from NKOTB's merit. I have not heard any member of the Jackson Five say that without them New Edition would be nothing, nor have I heard NKOTB say the same about BSB.
