I am very disappointed in this gentleman. The current constitution simply does not allow military involvement in politics. I would find sense if the man was advocating a constitutional amendment to allow the military to be partisan. The commander made an oath.

No matter how much we can dismiss what Mawarire is saying, the truth remains. ZDF support ZANU PF and the two can never be separated by a pen come the election day. Respecting our army, treat them as a key stakeholder and engaging ZDF is the only way out. Unless we are brave enough to fight them, of which our generation does not have the togetherness and the capacity to do that.

The current leadership of the ZDF who are mainly ZanuPF cadres will make sure that ZanuPF's wishes are carried out. Dhara cannot perceive the reality of the Zimbabwe situation. Instead of eliciting possible solutions from Jealous, he spends time arguing with him. He should have been challenging those ideas to solve the problem of the army in politics.

Individual servicemen and service women have always voted the world over, but for the army, police, intelligence or airforce to be rallied behind a political party...that's wrong. That's the reason why Sanyatwe's speech becomes worrying because he is actually confirm that he, as army commander, will rally the soldiers behind ZANU and even use command-voting to entrench ZANU rule in the country and into eternity. The Defence Force's Act or the Police Act clearly prohibits it's members from being political. The Acts openly state that members of the armed forces must be apolitical. Mawarire just needs to school himself on those security Acts to clear his misguided understanding of the operations and conduct of the members of the Army in a governed state.

This is such an inane discussion, God bless anyone who managed to watch till the end. How many credible democracies are so deferential to their armies? India elections, SA elections, UK elections, US elections, France elections, Germany elections... no one bats an eyelid about the army. Even Nigeria doesn't give that kind of precedence to its army. Yes, there's a historical context, but every nation has a historical context, and for how long should this be allowed to dictate the country's future? It starts to seem as though the historical context is a fall-back answer or position for people who have no real answers/vision for the future, and they want to hide behind a solution where everything is done by a government "of all the players" including the military. This fear of/reverence for the army has become a self-perpetuating affliction in Zimbabwe politics, you can even see it in the interviewee's 'clarification at the beginning of the video and his overall demeanour.

While discussing with the army may be one of the best options in a balanced political environment, I can bet you now, these will not yield to anything other the idea of a one party state & their obsession to power- & loot. Jealous was not presenting the truth. All people were consulted including all elements of the army in the 2013. constitutional consultative fora. Jealous bcoz of his greed was paid by Bob to call for an election through the courts before most of the important pieces of legislation were aligned to the constitution. There is still a huge gap & the current president is taking advantage of such gaps to use SIs thus running the country by decree unsteady of using the available constitution.

The biggest problem in Africa is independent African trying to recreate Western style democracy . Western style democracy is a product of western history. The liberal constitutions that litter Africa countries suit the west and are a product of Western philosophy a derivative of western history. We need Afrocentric constitutions that are a product of African governance philosophies derived from our History.

So why do we waste time and resources inacting a constitution that we don't adhere to if the army belongs to ZANU PF. Mr Mawarire, the war has been over almost half a century ago. That 1973 document you keep referring to has been overtaken by events. That document, was authored by a political party. The point is that serving members of the Defence Forces are specifically prohibited to take part in active politics. It is there in the statutes, it has never been ammended.
We cannot have an Army that says because we fought in the liberation war struggle, we're usurping your right to vote for a party of your choice. That is unacceptable in civilised society. Was it a mercenary army or what.
