Really, really enjoy your 2nd ed. 40k work. For me these minis are unsurpassed and seeing you applying modern tools and techniques on them is.. **chef's kiss** 😍
I love seeing the evolution of this force as someone who never got to experience the classic era of 40K videos like these inspire me! I’m gonna make a hive fleet with the classic scheme!!!
Been playing since the Rogue Trader says, and I had a few of these bad boys. I think they look great, and I even recently decided to re-base and repaint them in my current Tyranid colors, since I painted them when I was young and I sucked at painting.
LET'S ROCK!!!! I'm so glad you did this goofy thing a paint job it deserves. There's so much soul to these old sculpts, and you a legend are doing these legendary models justice. Rock on my dude.
Now I’m really looking forward to you painting that new lictor. I’ve been staring at it’s color scheme for awhile now and I can’t wait to see how you paint it.
You're a better man than me. I would have made a mold with that to cast multiples more. What a clean start! And an excellent finished product! Also a tip for old decals (transfers), if they've yellowed you can set them in the sun, or even under a UV lamp if you've got one. A quick spray of clear coat also helps keep them from disintegrating when they hit water. Any clear will do, my favorite is Pledge floor care but even something like Tamiya would work. You will have to score the outline so it will actually lift off.
Thanks so much! I do own pouring resin but have not been brave enough to try it out yet! That's some excellent advice on the decals - I have many yellowed transfer sheets, so will try popping them outside for a spell. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by 😊
@@edpaintsminis Thank you for sharing your 2E collecting journey with us! Definitely look forward to more. I have a few 2E bits myself but don't feel confident enough to paint them up quite yet.
Another wonderful video! Gorgeous paint job as always, it's lovely to see these classic sculpts being given the care and respect they so deserve. I am delighted to see you have taken my chitin pronunciation tip on board, for this episode my infuriating pronunciation pedantry will be focused on the word "incubi" - it is supposed to be pronounced "in-queue-bye" rather than "in-queue-bee". Please keep up the amazing work, you are one of only 2 UA-cam channels I have set to notify me upon new uploads!
Thank you very much! Oh nuts I've done it again! Another one of those words that I seldom use - okay I'll add that to my pronunciation bank :) Hoping to have another video on your subscription feed very soon.
@@edpaintsminis Games Workshop do love to name products with obscure and awkward to pronounce words that we barely ever heard said, let alone say out-loud ourselves! I hope you don't mind my pedantry, I can stop if it's too annoying!
i had a nightmare where the screamer killer is tired of getting shot in the chest, so it rolled up into a ball and ROLED into the frey like a fucking droideka from hell.....now that i think about that i want that to be a thing lol.
Loving these retro videos! I grew up in the Rogue Trader/2nd Ed era and am having my own 'red period' phase painting models in bright and crazy colours. Despite having fallen in love with the Tyranid models when they appeared in White Dwarf (145?) I never really spent much time painting any... until now. Modern figures with a old-school paint job. Works for me. If you can, you should try and find the old squigsand have a couple of bases. Original fluff was that they were Ork biomass the nids couldn't process, and when the Orks came a cross them noticed a kinship and rescued the squigs to use as pets!
one of the mini's i remember thinking about getting when i was a lad back in the day, this came out great love the shaved down space marine dude as well, though it saddens me the transfer is only a little younger then me 😢 I saw a cheeky box of Epic scaled space marine game during the painting which made me "ooo" and you got a Lictor? damn son you need some catachan now to feed to him
@@edpaintsminis might be an idea to hang onto it until we get the announcement of whatever the Titanicus expansion thing happens since its rumoured to be new Epic. But you probs know that already and planned for it
Dude your videos have taken me back to my first days in this hobby! These sculpts were some of the first Games Workshop minis I ever saw. Thank you for bringing back nostalgia sir!
my mother bought me one of these as one of my first models along with a hive tyrant and some genestealers i must admit none of them made it past grey in fact none of them made it to even having a base but i do remember his arm falling off a lot
awesome job! in the intro, you have a screen showing both old and new in the same color scheme. Who painted the new one? I'm thinking of doing my whole army like that, and that's the best version I've seen so far.
Thank you! Check the Warhammer Community page. They have a bunch of their staff's paint jobs on there and one of them has that old and new comparison. 😊
Bloody hell, that sculpt! It's so damn crisp, you would never believe it's a _2nd edition_ tyranid 😱
Even earlier I believe!
It's always surprising, seeing the crispness of old metal models.
"we need the finecast resin to produce crisp detail on our miniatures"... Yeah, right...

Thanks so much zprettpolly! Glad you're enjoying the content as much as I am making it 😊
Back when this model was one of the biggest on the tabletop and opponents were legit afraid of it.
Yes! Who's a loud boi?
Great work again 👍
I hate Pallid Wych Flesh so much. Right up there with the worst paints for me. Idk how you got it to work, but you did it so well! Gorgeous!
part of me wants to assemble a whole army like this.

Fantastic! So many schemes out there and contrast paints make it a realistic ambition. Gotta say though, I love the modern Leviathan scheme...
gorgeous!
what a beautiful cat :)
Nice work Ed
Great video really enjoyed it

Exquisite work, and it was a pleasant surprise to see that such a large and old metal model was actually rather straightforward to build!
Thank you! Yeah no problems at all! They were really well designed!
Awesome work!

I do miss the original Tyrant, Carni, and Lictor....awesome models and wee bit ahead of their time. Great job!
Such a beautiful paint job, looking forward to seeing more
Still my favorite carnifex model(nostalgia) and a great paint job
Thanks mate!
Quality video again Ed.
Think I've got an og lictor hiding somewhere, totally not looking on eBay for an og screamer killer 🤣🤣🤣
@6:00 Music gives me goosbumps :)
Now I’m really looking forward to you painting that new lictor. I’ve been staring at it’s color scheme for awhile now and I can’t wait to see how you paint it.
Those skaven look incredible! I would love to see how you painted those if you ever paint any more!
damn I want some 2nd ed nids
Amazing mate, for me this guy is the definitive Tyranid! Really enjoyed the video, thanks 👍
So glad you liked it Maddokminis!
Love this channel such a unique take on 40k
Pretty
I still have flashbacks of trying to build the lictor
Oh man! Yeah I think I glued my fingers together quite a bit with that one. Let's see if I do better this time...
Mine is still standing. One of life’s bigger mysteries.. Kinda want to repaint it, but torn as it is a bit of my early youth I shall be erasing..
He Screams! He Kills! He's the Killer Screamer! 😄
This whole army is looking so wonderfully 2nd Edition.
Nice work on this Genestealer on steroids beast!
Wow. The primer makes it look like a clay figure.
Nice work!
2nd Ed was the best
another great one. I'm always excited when I see your videos in my subscription feed!
Obliged Mr Snippet!

I hope you have lots of fun with that set - looks incredible!
Those arms are just on with superglue. On my one the pins don't particularly line up with the hole.
Yeah I was amazed at how securely it all went together!
Nice vid
Amazing job, looks truly gooey 🔥
u got to do a battle rep now with ur tyranid army
I do and I shall!
I miss my 2nd Edition days...
Looks great classic old metal model
Such an amazing model and you have nailed it! Love how the brood is coming along as well. Excited to see the Lictor one day!
Hooray! YES! Can't wait to get stuck into the original deathleaper!
Please us know if assembling the lictor posed any problems with the mantis claws. I'm struggling with mine.
I certainly will. 😊
@@edpaintsminis Turns out the one I got off Ebay had two right claws.
Nothing like Saturday morning Minisodes to start my day! Amazing work, as always!
😁
Jesus Christ man, that is epic 👏👏
Great job Ed. Looking forward to the lictor! So hard to get a hold of those!! I do wish you had gone with goblin green for the bases though 😉

Yeah that is a nice casting. I got one like that and one where the mold was definitely worn. This model was released in 1991.
Thanks jasonm3182, I wasn't too sure myself! Amazing sculpt for the time.

Greetings! As always, love your stuff. Thank you. B
Hey Billistefansson! My pleasure! Thanks for the comment and glad you're here for the ride!
Hi, is that a 50mm or 60mm base?
You have done a legendary miniature justice. It looks fantastic. One question though...why an ultramarine on the base? 😅
