- Опубліковано 22 чер 2024
- On April 26, an EF3 tornado with 160 mph winds tore a 40.9 mile path through southwest Iowa. The multi-vortex tornado was nearly a mile wide at times, and killed one man. Meteorologist Matthew Cappucci tracked the tornado for nearly 20 miles along its path.

This thing at its peak strength was an EF5, but didn’t hit anything at that time to confirm it. The Weather Channel was saying it had peak wind radar velocities near 270 mph.
It didn't have to hit anything, as long as those winds were 270 mph then it was an F5 and first one in 11 years.
@@cs77smith67 True, but I’m talking in official terms. I agree, and it should’ve gotten that rating.
@@cs77smith67 hate to break it to you but there have been many tornadoes since the Moore EF5 that have hit windspeeds higher than 200mph. This isn't the first, and just like those ones it was not an EF5. Tornadoes are rated based on their impact, not their windspeed.
@@trashcompactorYT Those too were still ef5 strength, they just didn't hit anything. The scale is broken
@@xraze6906 The scale isn't broken. If a tornado has no impact, there's no reason to rate it based on windspeed. The Fujita Scale is a measure of impact on infrastructure. It's a halfway point between structural engineering and wind estimates. That's why even in an EF5, you get the estimated windspeed required to do the damage recorded, not the actual recorded windspeed of the tornado. Also, there's no way to measure the wind of a tornado at the actual ground level. The Greenville tornado had winds of 309-318mph but those winds didn't translate to ground level, and as a result the tornado only did EF4 damage despite that wind recording happening while the tornado was impacting buildings.
The scale isn't broken, you just don't understand it or its purpose.
As someone who lives east to the tornado Alley we rarely have tornadoes but one time a EF0 touched down on my house when i was little and it scared the crap out of me 😂😂😂7/16/24 and this edit we were just in a tornado
Lol
Lucky that it was EF0
@@thenedanocap7673 yea
same thing happened to me
how much damage from it?
@@riceprt1484 a tree fell on a power line and our roof tiles came off
As someone who lives in Iowa I will tell you we’ve had so much tornadoes it’s honestly crazy
Facts. Last couple months been nerve-wracking. Never seen tornados in se iowa the last 36 years.
Be safe rather than sorry 🙏❤️🇺🇸🙏
This is not a mile wide. You can tell. He also said ‘quarter mile wide’ which looks more accurate
It's moreso that the tornadic windfield of the multivortex was at maximum ~1 mile wide (0.97 miles at maximum width). He caught it at a quarter mile while just as it hit tenant right before Harlan, when it wedged out and became a mile wide.
it was later on
I believe this has more than 1 Tornado in this video. Several Tornadoes touched down that day.
Iowa has been hit hard this year 😢
Yes it has 😢 I just moved up here two weeks ago and it’s pretty bad and it’s crazy
@BreannaLugo-r9v it isn't usually like this. I grew up here, and most of the time, we have a few storms, but nothing like this year. Welcome to Iowa. I hope you love our state as much as I do. 💖💖💖
I saw 4 in one tornado in Iowa when I was 15
Most likely sub vortices
Wow, can you describe it??
Iowa has had their quota of tornadoes! 3 Declared disasters at once...please know you aren't alone Iowa-your US neighbors ARE thinking about you and hoping for some relief soon.
Happy Independence Day
Good catch on that multi.
Harlan - my hometown. The tornado WAS a mile wide near Harlan, and Josh Wurman measured some incredibly high wind speeds in it just north of Harlan. I don’t ever remember a tornado this big near Harlan, and I am almost 70.
I live in Harlan, Iowa and that bad boy was absolutely huge. Plus it was pretty historic because it was the first actual major tornado to hit out here since 1923 They say it was an EF3 but I'm surprised it did not rate an EF4
Love y’all’s app!
It’s AWESOME
better than the one that you get automatically on your phone
That is soo cool
The tornadoes we get in northeast WI are not this impressive if we get one. Need a road trip to IA.
Meh, not that close but it's okay I guess. you are Mutual of Omaha close, I'm looking for Steve Irwin Close. in general people freeze up when they see a full on twister.🌪️🌪️🌪️
Change the game my boy. Give us that Irwin type of close I will watch. And if one day you stop posting I will know why. But I’m totally down for that experience
LOL at Mutual of Omaha vs. Steve Irwin!!
I live in east of tornado alley and east of Tennessee it is rare for a tornado to happen here but there was one time it happened last year when a EF2 Tornado touched down but it was not near and I didn’t know at all even my
My whole family didn’t know there was no warning even it just happened out of no where but that storm was super strong
Also Iowa set world record s 1 for the scariest one the other one is the strongest one
no they didnt
the greenfield is the 2nd highest winds not strongest tor
I live in Greenfield. Life will never be the same for our small town. But we are strong. Complete devastation through our town. Records really don't mean much to us! ❤🙏
That’s big and strong and that’s similar to that ef2
i didnt know yall made shorts, ive been using your radar app for like 8 years now
the satellite is beautiful
Bro trying to be like Reed Timmer. Anyways, great coverage of the tornado.
Its so cool
Valeu pêlas imagens. 😎👍👍
Everybody pokes fun at the helmet until golf ball size ice balls are falling from the sky
My wife said she was going to Illinois!
If im not mistaking that turned out to be an f5 300 mph tornado
When was this?
The way he said "Emergency police" like if police weren't there for emergencies. I know its the adrenaline but still.
tornado emergency is more different than a emergency but ok
It doesn’t look a mile wide to me during the video. I video making it look smaller?
I’m pretty sure that tornado instructions do not say “ stand and watch tornado approaching”
I hate the rating system for both hurricanes and tornadoes, not that they're bad themselves but that people use them in the wrong ways.
Where is Reed Timmer screaming?
As someone who lives in California I have no idea what this is like. However if I could move to Iowa and there are no homeless people near me I'd glady deal with Tornados.
Iowa has good homeless people. I've know a homeless man for 20 years. Hes 72 years old and spends every single day outside. Temperatures range from 100 to -22 degrees. I've learned a lot from that man! He's more involved into the community than I am. Every weekday he rides his bike over to the community center and helps set up the food donations each and every day. The most astonishing thing is that hes homeless and doesn't ask for anything from anyone! He's self efficient and takes care of himself.
There was hailstorm in Harlan Iowa it was hitting my house
@@martingustafson9550 if this is the man named Joe near downtown Des Moines then I’ve heard of him, sounds like a great man
There's a difference between junkies and homeless people. We don't have many junkies around Iowa causing problems like you may be experiencing in CA (leaving needles in public restrooms, etc). Mainly, it's people, often veterans, with mental health issues and those who tried, but are down on their luck in life and can't get back on their own two feet without some help. Either way, the homeless here don't really cause problems and it's too bad there isn't more we can do to help them.
Wait that’s an ef3
OMG
Is this normal? A MILE wide?
What did you say ??
Schon heftig. 😟
Tornado 🌪 theres a tornado tornado multi vortex, TORNADO 🌪 TORNADO 🌪 EMERGENCY TORNADO TORNADO!
Which is it a mile wide or a quarter mile wide
Did you say hurricane life threatening..... ?
Cameraman never dies proof
2.4k!! Likesss
Leviathan
It’s dangerous if you are outside on a 🌪️ tornado
Its not dangerous when its in the middle of a field, no emergency.
Any tornado is dangerous no matter where it’s at 💀
Look at that beaver
Hahaha hahaha !!!
Beaver tail........... cloud
Talk less and show tornado more
Why are u wearing that hat????
Bei aaid mile wide, but in the vid, he says QUARTER-MILE. Clickbate bruh.
2 different times first quarter mile wide then later became a mile wide in Harlan.
So not clickbate
