- In June, 2007 my hometown of Newcastle, Australia made headlines around the world when a bulk carrier, the Pasha Bulker went aground on a beach near the city during a fierce storm, not uncommon in this region. In my role as a volunteer for the Newcastle Maritime Centre I have been given several documentaries of this event to show our visitors, but this one, made by a local radio station has proven most popular. Taken from "A June To Remember" produced by ABC radio 1233. The full DVD, which covers that entire weekend when the Pasha Bulker may have made the headlines but lives were lost as well is available from ABC shops in Australia, or from the Net at www.abc.com.au
I may have missed it but how much time elapsed from the Pasha's S.O.S. till it grounded? No tugs or assist craft appeared till after the grounding? Were the seas too rough for help? Did the captain fail to make a timely call? Or were other emergency calls considered far more urgent by the C.G.? It does appear like beach community was not alerted by authorities.

Yes, the MN Drake. Are you using Ship Finder App?
This ship was towed to a shipyard in Viet Nam - Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard for reparing. It taken nearly more than 6 months to replace all ship bottoms, propeller. The vessel was also re-named Drake.
