It was funny how he kept them trapped by a pile of garbage using Lunetta's circle spell. He just kept letting them walk around the garbage heap and each time they saw him they would get so confused.
Despite the controversy that surrounded the author I feel this series always got worse than it deserved. I read this years ago when I was in high school and found the discussions of moral and political philosophy to be truly thought provoking. Glad to see more people picking it up. You're spot on about book 4 being a pivotal moment for the series. It does a great job at transitioning the story into its much larger over-arching plot. Personally, I'd stop reading after the eleventh book "Confessor". It's a fitting end to the series and the rest is not worth it in my opinion. You've still got the best books ahead of you!
Todd here. I read a big chunk of the first book Wizard's First Rule by Goodkind and got bored with it. I donated it to my local library but I might give it another try.
Back around the time of the tv show ~ 2010-2011, I decided to read the series. I only made it through the first 2 and put down the 3rd one and never got back to it. Much like you, I found there was a lot to like. However, I remember getting annoyed by his political discourse in the series and I also remember thinking that there was way to much bloat. Just not for me. BTW, if you think the books felt derivative, check out the Legend of the Seeker tv series sometime. I watched it for awhile but it was very much a guilty pleasure, but that wore off kind of quick so I never finished that either. Lol
I made it to the fifth book. Started feeling repetitive. I do believe you have her name wrong. I would suggest watching g the TV show 'Legend of the Seeker'. It is a decent show, with some haters as always, but it can give the characters faces...and pronunciations. You have read past the show so there would be no spoilers. It may make you want to continue reading or not. Show was created by Sam Raimi who also was involved with xena and Hercules and some of the Spiderman movies.
My friend who watched the show also corrected me on the pronunciation. I’ve just always gone with mine because that’s what I used when I started the series years ago. 😂
I agree - the way Tobias captured the duchess and duke at the midden heap was insane. And the stuff he did to them

“Something borrowed was wheel of time, something blue was the cover” I had no business laughing as hard as I did 😂
