Operation Christmas Child - Making Personal Care Filler Kits * 2024

- Operation Christmas Child does a great job providing "filler" items at the processing centers each year! Filler items are needed to add to boxes when we have to remove something inappropriate or fill up a 1/2 empty box! Additional filler items are always welcome! You can box them up in a box(NOT a shoebox) and mark "Filler" on the outside. Drop them off at any shoebox drop off site or take them directly to a processing center near you!

I love these! The church we send our boxes through sometimes focuses on quantity over quality. Knowing that there are filler packs like these to help those kind of boxes really makes me happy for the kids who get them! 🎉
Quantity over quality is definitely an issue we see at the processing center. We see cartons and cartons of the same thinly packed boxes that are obviously packed by a group. OCC’s emphasis on “full, fun and personal” boxes is an attempt to remind packers what they are looking for. Sadly there is not enough filler like this. Maybe encourage your local church to follow that guideline instead of pushing for quantity. Perhaps it would be awkward or not your place but it’s definitely worth trying.🤷🏻♀️ Thank you for watching Sarah!

What an awesome idea! I love the Mylar bags! I think I’ll have a lot of leftover soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, and combs. I usually just send filler in a giant box but this is a task I can do. I’ve also been putting in utensils in my boxes this year. Great job putting these together!

These are awesome! We've been working on some hygiene filler at home but definitely not as full as yours. These give me some great ideas and I love the idea of packing in bulk instead of doing each pack one at a time. I can see how that would help so nothing gets forgotten. Love all the inspiration you give!!

These are wonderful, Denise. This is my first year of not doing soap so I skipped washcloths too, but I might rethink that for next year.
Thanks Judy! Yeah, I skipped soap too but still love the soft wash cloths. Exhausted me last year to pull soap for two days from boxes at the PC for boxes going to Tanzania. So that was enough for me to say ok, done with soap! lol.

What nice filler. It’s like another gift inside the box. Do you put your card with your email in those bags? Just wondered if you ever hear from a child on filler items.
I found a lot of boys underwear packs for 1.00 yesterday. More then I need so putting with socks for filler,but trying to figure what else I could put with them. I love it when you show us filler you are doing ❤
Thanks Tammy! I do not put my name or my card on these. The only time I do that is with my pencil packs for the Pencil Granny. And yes, I did hear back once from one of those recipients! 😊
And by the way, the underwear with socks is a fantastic idea!!!! Maybe add a comb? Or something like that? If not, just the socks and underwear is great!

Hi Denise, These are fun and practical hygiene kits. I now recall packing something similar last year and adding a few hair ties ... even for the boys! For my gender neutral packs I opted for black hair ties vs. brighter colours for the girls.
On the topic of soap. I have been advised the ingredients of soap may cause issues with receiving countries. AU may also phase out by 2025. It is no longer on the recommended items, but not yet on the do not send.

Yes, the U.S. no longer has soap on the recommended list as well. It will not be allowed in 2025. Last year I spent two days pulling soap from boxes going to Tanzania. It was exhausting…so I had a feeling it was going to possibly be phased out.

I always put two or three toothbrushes in my personal boxes, but after watching this, I’m going to start putting in 2. Dr. Fresh 6 pack are just a dollar so it makes sense to add the extra. I also am going to purchase the Mylar bags. I have hundreds of the spoons from IKEA and will now add that as well. Just never thought of it! Great ideas as always, thanks for sharing!
