Love these type of videos, seeing things back then, and comparing them to now. I'm from Hastings, but have lived in Birmingham for around the past 15 years, went to college then got housing up here and made a life for myself. Hastings, will always have a special place in my heart, my parents still live there, and I go down to see them now and then and vice versa. Priory Meadow is still there, its kind of small to what I have now in Birmingham, but it's all I had at the time. I still have, fond memories shopping in, electronics boutique back in the day and smiths. Woolworths, was always down the other end near McDonalds. Nice video.
thank you so much for this excellent footage, its really well put together. Whilst I grew up in Hastings, its been many a year since I was last there, but from what I can see online / youtube, the so called 'financial regeneration' hasnt happened, with big outlets left and empty units in the shopping centre. As we are more environmentally aware than we was in the 1990's wouldnt it be lovely to see it restored to a green space of some shape or form - maybe embrace the water and put a river thru it - crazy ideas - but i'd be much happier seeing the shopping center gone, shops in the town actually used.
Wow I'm in this and had no idea we had been filmed after all these years 😮 Am 1 of the first 10 people right at the front of the crowd to set foot in there. Was an hour late getting to college but was worth the free goody bag the first few of us were given and don't think I'll get in any trouble for jacking the first hour at hcat after all this time 😅
I went down there on the opening day, it must have been just after 9:00 am. I had a walk along Queens Road on my way to work up Bohemia. All I can remember was some of the female staff given out balloons to children outside one of the shops, just opposite where WHSmith is now. As I left I headed towards Cambridge road to go up to Bohemia, outside one of the shops I saw an old lady with two blokes in suits, I thought to myself ''that's the Queens mother''. As I walked up Bohemia road I saw a female teacher walking down the road with a group of children. I told the teacher that the Queen mother is down the road. I don't know if she believed me at all? but later I found out that it was the woman back then who use to pose as the Queens mothers double at a special events 🤭
Lol h.m. the Queen mother did open summer fields and the electrified line to London but in 80 and 86. Queen Elizabeth II officially opened priory meadow but months after this.
@@ianashenden2877 I'm not sure what shop the Queen's mother double was outside, but there was a small row of shops on the opposite side of the road just down from the old Observer building, can't remember which one, and I don't know why she was down there apart from cashing in on the event.
Priory Meadow failed to improve the towns financial future. Burtons gone. Evans gone. It's a just a corridor with a roof now, and has nothing to offer in the way of retail. A waste of money for the most part. Hastings remains a town with numerous charity outlets and boarded up shop fronts. Wages are low, unemployment high. Seemingly it has gone beyond financial rejuvenation!
I agree Hastings has, become rundown, there was, talk many years ago about the regeneration of the town. The council is having to cut back. On expensives.

Glad you liked the video.
I lived in Hasting when Priory Meadows was being build. I'm feeling old lol
Kate Garroway sounding so professional. Shame she sold her soul by working on Good Morning Britain.
