It takes concentration to make sure you have a couple of things properly positioned, plus that your release is smooth, and not uneven as this will cause a "speed bump effect" that will throw the ammo off line, and possibly into,the forks or your hand. Rubber band has to be straight and even on both sides- you have to make sure that it is. Has to be mostly parallel with the top of the slingshot as well. The pouch needs to be straight with the rubber band (I was mistakenly twisting it, causing the ammo to fly in a different direction than I was aiming, often hitting the thumb)- the release needs to be as even and slow and deliberate as possible, this is something that has to be practiced over and over- deliberatey making sure to keep pouch straight. If holding at 180 degrees, thumbnail should be pointing straight up . If you lapse on thinking about these three things, (say you forget to hold ammo pouch straight in line with band) you risk hitting the forks or hand. This practice needs to be deliberate each time- no shortcuts or laziness if you want to avoid misfires.
1: straight even bands, not uneven lengths when stretched on Either side. (Slingshot should be even, not angled either on top or bottom if using 180 degree angle)
2: straight even pouch, with thumb nail flat, top of nail pointed up. (Note thst ammo should not be pinched in front of ammo either- this might cause speed bump,effect too if you pinch in front of ammo)
3: even slow deliberate release of pouch- practice releasing thumb and forefinger at same time, its not as easy as it sounds- it wil, take practice.
This should help to really cut down on fork hits/hand hits- until you get it, consider a plastic guard for thumb at least (I just taped some plastic strips to a glove that I use for practice as i hit my thumb several times, not realizing what i was doing wrong at first)
I call 180 degrees when slingshot,is held sideways (it is turned 180 degrees from straight up) he is calling it 90 degrees when held sideways, so keep,thst in mind when viewing my Comment above. I'm talking about holding the slingshot with one fork on top, one on the bottom- not both forks on top

@ I still get fork shots, and shots that aren't straight when aiming down the band- and i suspect it may be that the ammo isn't perfectly aligned and held perfectly aligned in the pouch, either that or my release isn't smooth and even enough. I just came back from small practice session and couldn't hit the target, had a bunch of fork hits- even though i made sure band was even on top and bottom, and the ammo was aligned in pouch straight (but it might have been too close to one edge of the pouch?) Something I'm doing isn't right- I do note that when i concentrate the hardest on releasing the ammo evenly, it seems to not hit the forks as much- I am sticking with it- it's fun, but a little frustrating at this point0- hopefully i get better soon

@ Hi- thanks for replying- I think it has to do with the release- been trying more, and it seems that when i really concentrate on making the release smooth and even, instead of quick and erratic, and making sure- absolutely sure, that the thumbnail is pointed towards the sky, perfectly even with the the top fork of the slingshot, that i don't get the fork hits- I think i may just be rushing a bit too much when i get the hits- and maybe causing that speed bump effect- I'll get it eventually- I've made a hand guard for the left hand to protect the thumb until i get things sorted out and feel more comfortable- its a good feeling when i hit a can at 25 yards- but for now that is fr and few between- i hit it almost by accident lol
