AVROTROS is a Dutch radio and television broadcaster, founded in 2014 from a merger of AVRO and TROS. From January 1st, 2014 the name of the merged broadcaster was used in joint programmes. AVRO was founded in 1923 as the Netherlands first public broadcaster. TROS started broadcasting in 1964. Toppop was a weekly AVRO pop program that was aired between 1970 and 1988.

Not sure if you all forgot :) They won the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 with this song "La det swinge" ("Let it swing") - for Norway.
I could never forget. 1985 was a great year for music with Live Aid raising big money too for starving Africans.
I actually prefer this sung in Norwegian. The tempo is ever so slightly slower when sung in English. It probably makes it easier to fit the English words in but I prefer the teensy bit faster Norwegian lyrics

I only learned about 5 years ago, the dance routine isn't universal, was only a thing in THAT CLUB. yes those of us who went in there still remember it now

Basically
I can see the similarities to the British format with lots of random people dancing about. I wonder if NOS/AVOTROS purchased the format from the BBC?
The creator did say that it was inspired by Top of the Pops, but I don't think they asked for payment as they started at relatively the same time
The Norwegian language + Eurovision live version sounds much better than this version. Much "flowing" and the pacing is better too.
