This is a masterpiece!! Been going through a similar design/build phase this past year so I can really appreciate what goes into making all of those decisions. What a house!
Nice pad! Working for a national residential architectural firm, you did and awesome job on the design. Your passion for architecture shows through what you had designed into you home. Best of luck with the future home and hope you enjoy the design process for the new home!

Well if the whole biking thing doesn’t work out, I feel like you already have a pretty dialed portfolio to do residential architecture/interior design. Place is sick!
Incredible pad bro, wishing you and yours the best of luck in your next chapter. We need more people like you in the sport. You’re a great ambassador and fast as fuck!
Aaron, I just saw you in Knoxville a couple of weeks ago. I also moved last August from Fresno, Ca to East Tennessee, about 50 miles south of Knoxville. Welcome to Tennessee.
My jaw kinda dropped when I saw the thumbnail and title. I did get have the impression that you’d meant to stay there forever. All the best for your move to TN!
The exodus from CA is quite real, it appears. Gwin is a native who has generally been quite complimentary of the area the few times I've seen him talking about it. And then, to build this show place of a house, only to almost immediately sell it, shows how bad things must be getting in recent years. Anyways, I've always been an east coaster and spent a lot of time MTB'ing in the southeast. It's a great area for so many different reasons. It will be much easier to build the life he's looking for down there. Best of luck!
Nothing to do with 'how bad' CA is getting. I feel like people who've never lived on the west coast love to have opinions on what it's like. The US DH mountain bike scene is just super strong on the east coast right now. There's good reason to want to surround yourself with the east coast DH community if you're interested in continuing your career.
@@downhillupside Perhaps. Gwin seems pretty coy about his reasons for moving - at least I haven't seen him comment on it much. But, it's important to note that Gwin literally just finished a custom-built piece of property that cost a fortune, and which he was stoked about (with good reason), and which he stated he planned to live there his whole life and raise a family. Under normal circumstances, you don't just uproot and leave that almost immediately after you're done with the build and the relative comparisons between the east and west coast DH scenes wouldn't ordinarily be good enough reason to do so. I could be wrong, but, based on this, combined with other little hints I've picked up on about Gwin over the years, I suspect he's in the "CA Exodus" crowd.
He’s definitely part of the exodus crowd. We also just sold our place and are escaping CA. It has become increasingly bad in every aspect (aside from the climate) just in the past few years alone. It’s like the politicians want you to leave. They’re making it so no one can afford or would want to live here. Just wait until the “leave CA” tax is implemented. They’ve been trying to pass that for years.

I often wonder if it was worth it for YT. They were a relatively unproven brand and Aaron put them on the #1 spot again and again and showed YTs could go as fast as any bike. They obviously paid Aaron a tonne of money and since then they don't sponsor too many athletes. Got to hope a lot of people went out and bought a Capra or a Jeffsy at least partly because of Aaron!
