  • @helzevec
    @helzevec 2 роки тому +4

    The exodus from CA is quite real, it appears. Gwin is a native who has generally been quite complimentary of the area the few times I've seen him talking about it. And then, to build this show place of a house, only to almost immediately sell it, shows how bad things must be getting in recent years. Anyways, I've always been an east coaster and spent a lot of time MTB'ing in the southeast. It's a great area for so many different reasons. It will be much easier to build the life he's looking for down there. Best of luck!

    • @downhillupside
      @downhillupside 2 роки тому +3

      Nothing to do with 'how bad' CA is getting. I feel like people who've never lived on the west coast love to have opinions on what it's like.
      The US DH mountain bike scene is just super strong on the east coast right now. There's good reason to want to surround yourself with the east coast DH community if you're interested in continuing your career.

    • @helzevec
      @helzevec 2 роки тому +5

      @@downhillupside Perhaps. Gwin seems pretty coy about his reasons for moving - at least I haven't seen him comment on it much. But, it's important to note that Gwin literally just finished a custom-built piece of property that cost a fortune, and which he was stoked about (with good reason), and which he stated he planned to live there his whole life and raise a family. Under normal circumstances, you don't just uproot and leave that almost immediately after you're done with the build and the relative comparisons between the east and west coast DH scenes wouldn't ordinarily be good enough reason to do so. I could be wrong, but, based on this, combined with other little hints I've picked up on about Gwin over the years, I suspect he's in the "CA Exodus" crowd.

    • @LanceLaspina
      @LanceLaspina 2 роки тому

      He’s definitely part of the exodus crowd. We also just sold our place and are escaping CA. It has become increasingly bad in every aspect (aside from the climate) just in the past few years alone. It’s like the politicians want you to leave. They’re making it so no one can afford or would want to live here. Just wait until the “leave CA” tax is implemented. They’ve been trying to pass that for years.

    • @helzevec
      @helzevec 2 роки тому +1

      @@LanceLaspina Sounds like that will just incentivize people to leave before the "leave CA" tax is implemented. It's a real shame b/c, while there are certainly things you can't control, much of it looks to be a bit of a self-own like you suggest. In any case, best of luck with your move!

    • @downhillupside
      @downhillupside 2 роки тому

      I often wonder if it was worth it for YT. They were a relatively unproven brand and Aaron put them on the #1 spot again and again and showed YTs could go as fast as any bike. I don’t know if you look at these comments, Aaron, but if you do, I have to address the elephant in the room, and of course to pose the question, why? I know I have no right to ask anything personal and I totally understand if you don’t address the question, but one has to wonder, why? Nothing against Tennessee, and God knows I wish you the very best you deserve it, but what is a top world downhill champion doing moving to Tennessee? I know California has issues, and nothing against Tennessee once again, but you just belong in California and that property is simply incredible! So once again I pose the question, why?
