"having abs has nothing to do with core strenght" . this was a great point. thank you for taking the effort to make this informative and fun video. I consider myself to be quite strong (i'm a grappler and I lift heavy) but as I'm short and have some body fat, my abs don't really show, unless my stomach is empty which doesn't really happen that often lol

I, too, am short and carry a little pouch in the front. 😂
So ab progress is very difficult for me and Yet my legs are very toned; especially my quads. 😏

Let's not forget not everyone is capable of getting a six pack it's genetics it'll range I've seen 3 myself have a real lopsided 4 with that said strong core not worry about a visual six pack is the way to go

I have more fat around my belly but when I wake up and don’t have any bloating you can sort of see how my abs are shaped and my fat works around the area - it’s hard to describe but I am no where near having visible abs it’s just when I’m not bloated I can tense my muscles and u can see how my abs could come through Lmaoo.

As every week: Thanks for taking the time to create such a great video🖤
I used to do gymnastics as a child and when I began to start working out again, I stopped doing „abs“ since I don‘t like my core, when the muscles show. I know that sounds crazy but the muscles „lay“ on top of everything and when I don’t wear a crop top it doesn‘t looks like a nice trained six pack, it looks like a food-baby-belly. That was one of the main reason for me to start with weightlifting, to get more core strength instead of gaining muscles. If it makes sense…
    Have a nice weekend☺️

Yup it makes sense, it’s crazy how different Abs can look on each person! Glad you’re still focusing on your core strength. People who grew up doing gymnastics I feel have a whole different level of abdominal strength from starting so young it’s crazy!

@@KeltieOConnor Yea, totally - I liked the video and appreciate your work. I think I just didn't articulate myself as clearly as I'd like. We are def all built differently and some have a natural six pack, some are naturally slim/thin, some are naturally plump or in between. I don't want to attack naturally slim ppl. But a certain physique is so popular it affects some in a bad way....regardless, I'm just worried about the path the fitness industry as a whole is taking on promoting certain body types (not you, clearly just the industry) which is at the detriment of women's health and education. Just about every fitness influencer video I find on UA-cam is very slim or has a six pack or has a normal physique but always talks about their fitness journey in wanting to lose weight for the desired figure. And I may be biased on how it affects women because when I did have that idealized figure I was also amenopausal. I can't go under a certain weight (which is average, not slim) without losing my period.

I like that you bring up the water intake & food manipulation that causes more dramatic appearances of abs. Not only do bodybuilders and models just cut the day before, we typically overload water for an entire week while also cutting calories relatively drastically and then start a water cut 1-2 days out. Even models don't always look like their bodies year round!

This was honestly one of my fave videos you've ever done! Abs are the biggest issue for me because it's sooo easy to not use them even in just daily activities. I walk a lot and for years and years I have had an ATP not even realizing it only until I had a herniated disk in my lower back in 2016 (age 26) and had it surgically removed, and since my recovery I have been paying so much more attention to engaging my abs properly and not tilting my pelvis out quite as much but still to this day I do it every day and always catch myself whenever my lower back gets tense which is a very regular thing for me. Would love to see a full ATP training video! Well done Keltie! Love you!

Your energy is so welcoming and refreshing and because of you I decided to push myself do something that I don’t normally gravitate towards which is trying to get better at running. I had set a goal in February to run/walk a 5k for St. patty’s day. I’m not hitting the numbers like I want to but they are improving. I also find that when I have a bad day I chose to go on the treadmill which was never like me before. I keep trying to tell myself no matter what happens on the 17th whether I get the numbers I want or not I should still be proud for sticking with it. And it’s because of you with all the advice, motivation , and encouragement I get from your videos.

I just need you to know how much I appreciate the planks part of this video where you explain the different kinds of planks. I'm currently trying to lose weight and haven't exercised in a very long time, so my core strength isn't the best. I always wondered why I had so much trouble holding an rkc plank, and I didn't realize that maybe I'm just not strong enough to do those yet! I tried the elevated elbow plank you showed and found that I was able to do those for much longer and hold the form better, so thank you so much for showing that!
Also, I have been watching your channel for a few months now since I started my health journey and wanted to thank you for the content you post. 7 weeks ago I had a big pot belly and now my abs are actually starting to show for the first time in my life!! I can't quite believe it.😄I lost 24 lbs on a keto diet, and reversed the insulin resistance which had been making me look pregnant. (Keto minimises water retention too.) I do 20-40 sit ups every other day, and walk for between 20 mins to 3 hours every day, as well as a few other strength exercises, nothing major though. I wouldn't say I'm particularly fit. My body likes to store most fat on my thighs and bum, so it means that my stomach is starting to look pretty good even though my body fat percentage is still quite high. I'm confident I can get a 6 pack but it will be a little while yet!!

I managed to get the elusive six pack in June 2020. I was writing my master thesis during April, may and June soooo, I didn't have time to snack (I would cook every 2 days a big pan of chicken and vegetables and have French toast for breakfast). No side stuff like rice, nor pasta, nor nothing, sometimes a protein shake between meals. Probably I was consuming around 1300 calories per day (if not less). And my only way to relieve stress was by running at night (because it was kinda weird to spend time outside during the day considering the pandemic had just started) and do abs workouts (12 minutes only). By the time I submitted my paper I had those beautiful abs (and no more period for that matter, yay! Health... or lack of). Good times for sure.
I'm not gonna lie, I miss that look. I was sooo tight everywhere, whereas now, 8 kilos later, I'm kinda puffy (but waaay stronger and I eat like 2000 cals, so, I'm not mad about it).
Whatever, what was my point? Maybe I didn't even have one to begin with. Yeah well, as you said, abs are surely not the pinnacle of health haha

I've recently joined an artistic skating club in addition to doing pilates and ive finally found my happy mix of exercise that i genuinely love. Its so relieving to have finally made a habit that is healthy and includes exercise as I never thought i could have it ( disordered eating and perfectionism). Your channel has added to my reinforcing of positive change in my mental ideas of fitness. BIG THANKS KELTIE!

The sadest part about this video is that so much work was put into it and it comtains so much good information, and yet it will receive a fraction of views and likes of what: "get a six pack in 10 days doing this one thing" trash gets every day...

I'm one of those who has a strong core but I am older and going through menopause so I carry fat there. Get rid of my fat and I'm certain there is a 6 pack under there. I have to keep a strong core for my back. If I don't keep up with my core exercises my back suffers and I am in terrible pain. So glad you were able to see a difference in your back pain also.

I had abdominal reconstruction after surgery and can't feel my abs. Had to relearn how to work out. After a year or working at it, I can knock out an ab workout. I'll never have visible abs, but man! I'm so grateful for what my abs can do!

Good morning Jessica! It’s so complicated for sure, I mostly come from immobility vs hyper mobility for you. Great example of why we all need to get programs built around our specific needs. Hope this video can provide a little insight in that. Because I’m not a physio can’t give you exact recommendations

    • @starhill6792
      @starhill6792 2 роки тому

Hi! I’m also hyper-mobile. I know I have a connective tissue disorder, but the jury is out on whether or not it’s EDS - though my husband has EDS. Personally, I do a lot of the more sedentary weight machines at the gym because it’s easier for me not to partially dislocate anything when working on parts of my body. It can suck sometimes & if I’m doing a motion and things feel off, I stop. It’s hard to built momentum but I notice building the strength keeps things in place more so. If you have a good medical team, I would consult them honestly. (Also, my husband is a mechanic, so he gets a lot of his core strength from work)
All this to say, everyone even within the scope of connective tissue disorders and hypermobility are different even. So again, always consult your doctor. I hope this may have provided some insight ❤️

Hoping this comes across the way I mean it too… my friend has a stomach that I envy… it has stretch marks and scars… she will never have a six pack and I couldn’t be more jealous! Because what she does have is three beautiful daughters!!! Her husband rubs her belly and tells her she is the most sexy woman he’s ever met!!! And he means it! Your organs are not fashion accessories! If we focus on what our stomachs do for us than all stomachs are amazing and beautiful!!!

Woow this is such an informative video!! I love how you bring in other experts as well for extra education while doing the challenge. And adding disclaimers such as your progress might look different on someone else with different genetics etc. And stress throughout the video how core strength is important but visible abs are overrated. Hands down the best ab video I‘ve ever seen!!! Immediately subscribed 👏🏼

I carry all my excess fat on my belly. I can have perfect legs even when I am pretty overweight but at an 18 BMI I still had a little pudge there. My lowest waist measurement as an adult was 27.5 and I was skinny af. I am tall and athletic and it’s so frustrating. I have to buy jeans and dresses with a waist a size up and put up with baggy thighs. If you have this body type dressing well is extra hard. If you carry it on your lower half you look divine in skirts and straight leg jeans but for us apples it’s low rise skinnies and forgiving tops and blazers a la Kate Moss. The current fashions for little nipped waist dresses and high rise jeans is depressing.

@Keltie O'Connor is there a smaller waist targeting exercise that you did in this video that will help & also inner thighs targeting exercise that works faster. Been Doing Cardio exercises everyday for over a hr for yrs not for super muscular built but slim down skinny exercises with a toning & smaller built.

I will do my ab workouts first thing in the morning(usually after a cup of ☕️... cause coffee! 😛) and so I'm on my living room floor. And sometimes do it 5 days a week, sometimes only 1 or 2. I won't take the time to do it after a hard workout, but first thing in the morning only takes 5 to 8 minutes and is a great way to get oxygen to the brain and heart rate slightly elevated so you function better all day.

Thank you for this video! I was just about to jump into an unhealthy diet out of the frustration of not getting the results I want for my abs, regardless of the type of fitness that I decide to do or how hard and long I've been training. But having hormonal imbalance will probably always influence if my abs show or not and I should celebrate instead how strong I've become instead of reducing my progress on the body image that is being fed to the society.
I knew I can count on you for an honest and science-based advice! Thank you again!

Hey thinking of you Keltie :) I can relate to you and the posture idea for strengthening the core. One of the best tips I have for the core and posture is ; Go out walking with a relatively heavy backpack. It puts us in great alignment.

  • @1Renesimon

I suppose, whereas most people have to much fat and to small abdominal muscles generally, this particular girl has a little volume of rectus abdominus. (And this is fine and natural!)
There's no need to do countless exercises and repetitions of exercises in order to pump the small rectus abdominus.
You have to do crunches with havier weights.
When you're already so skinny, you have no problem with losing fat percentage, you have the challenge to gain the muscle size here.
