Serious question, is there no oversight for umpires? I understand it’s not easy but I still can’t believe an umpire is infallible and can keep continuing to call matches afterwards with no lapse
They would be under the respective tours, so there would be performance feedback. There has been instances previously where an umpire has been removed for the remainder of a tournament, and that would have financial impacts for them. Players can also stipulate if they don’t want a certain umpire, I’m not sure how that process works though.
If Maria had missed the volley, they’d have replayed the point. Terrible decision. I would refuse to play until the supervisor came and until the umpire understood the rule and realised her mistake. The match can’t continue under the supervision of someone who isn’t fit to make such basic calls and who could easily make the same terrible mistake again straight after
that racquet abuse call on Kostyuk is so bad lol. It was the follow through of the motion of her shot. Players hit their racquet on the court making/getting to shots all the time

Umpire from Volynets María: worst umpiring in tennis history. Just look how she did volley. Nobody playing a point seriously and focused volley in that way. It clearly interfered the calling to the point. It was one of the most clear replay points ever.
That one with Kostyuk to me that’s 50/50 because she wouldn’t of meant to do that so therefore there shouldn’t have been a warning but at the same time there was a bit of force when the racket a hit the court but I don’t see it as intentional. It’s a tough one to call I would’ve just said play on but I dunno.
"For me it didn't interfere" ...does this umpire even understand English? She's just repeating herself endlessly, clearly not even listening to Volynets. How do these umpires even get employed? "Hi I've never played tennis and I don't understand English, can I become an umpire? The pay seems nice"
