Hi Larry, I’ve just purchased a 1927 66k model that I want to restore. I’m new at restorations and I just cannot believe I found this video which is so detailed and will prevent me making mistakes with my restoration! I can’t thank you enough as I can now approach the restoration with confidence! 👍

I am a 30something stay-at-home mom and have started restoring my great-great-grandmother's Singer Treadle sewing machine and cabinet. Thank you SO much for the videos!!! I learned to sew on this machine and can't wait to have it returned to its beautiful self. We just found out yesterday that my mom is pretty sick, and I just know this project is going to be therapeutic for me over the next little while. Again, thank you.

We just got an antique treadle sewing machine similar to the one in this video. Seemingly, someone had reassembled it incorrectly and put the sewing machine underneath the spring up foot.
Watching this video really helped us understand how to fix the problem! Thank you so much!

I’ve inherited and want to ship my Oma’s 1928 Singer from Guatemala to the US and found this video on disassembly. It’s so incredibly helpful and will make shipping easier than I had expected (I was thinking I’d have to find and ship in a crate). The video has inspired me to try my hand at carefully restoring parts and or the whole. The family has used this machine to date! Oma, mom, aunts, cousins. It’s been in use for almost 100 years in my family. Thank you for the video!

I found this facinating! Very detailed! I just brought home a singer treadle. If I’m looking the number up correctly it says it Dec 1910 in a website I checked. Thank you for taking the time to film your work. Anxious to see the next video!

Thank you SO much Larry!!! Today you have helped my 16 year old daughter and I disassemble a singer treadle machine in Australia together. School holiday project... :D It is in a very similar condition to the one you show in this video. With these videos, you have given us the guidance on how to start the process of bringing this machine and cabinet back to life, while spending time together and learning new things. :) So thank you ever so much!!! In the end this will be my daughters machine, that in years to come, I hope she will remember us working on it together to bring it into working condition for her ;) We probably could not have done this without you... Thank you xoxoxo

I love to see old iron work. I have an old treadle machine. I gave mine away in my twenties and bought this one to restore. My father was a Sheffield turner and he made the most beautiful custom garden tools for himself and I have most of them. I have an old treadle potters wheel too. I cringe when the old-iron men come on the street at the thought of melting these treasures down. Iron is like a living thing, feed it with some good oil and it comes back to life.

Flywheel sounds nice. In german it is "Schwungrad" "Schwung" you can use in many meanings for example: momentum, impetus, drive and similar to englich swing. We do have an old "Singer" the grandma of my wife used it and saved it in WWII. It was dissasambled and hidden under coals. After the war it was reassambled. It works and had evern a few screws more then before Disassembling.

🤔 Do I admit I have a few Singer 66's? 😂 Only one is a treadle though. You made me smile when you said that the part under the machine wasn't a garage, it was a cradle. I love watching you restore vintage treadle cabinets, this one looks like it's going to be a lot of work. There's a lot of veneer work you're going to do unless you replace it, the underside veneer was very damaged, which I would have never expected. Can't wait for part 2!

Still late to the party but I'm catching up! You have probably seen/done it but I saw Hand Tool Rescue coat his vice grips in hot melt glue to avoid marring the finish on something he was taking apart. Just thought I'd drop it here in case you are interested. Love your dedication to teaching your craft!

This one is actually in quite a bit better condition than my great grand mother's.. I have it down in our apartment storage locker at the moment. My mother decided it was a good idea to use it as a plant stand for at least 20 years so the whole top is a disaster. It's missing a couple drawer knobs but it has all its wheels and I don't think anything is broken. This gives me hope that some day it can be restored to it former glory. I haven't sold it off because I know someone would just rip it apart and paint the base with glitter or something else equally insulting to such a marvelous piece.

Hi Larry, currently watching your latest singer restoration. I have a machine that is basically hanging together with a wing and a prayer. I was wondering if you could recommend somewhere that I could access plans of how to rebuild the wooden case. There are a lot of pieces missing on my machine and it's got family history so I would love to bring it back to life. Thanks for your advice and love watching your videos 😊

I just started work on one of these. Thank you for the videos! I agree that you have to take all the old paint off and I'm using your methods with the wire brushes and also a Dremel for the hard to reach parts. Once I have cleaned off the visible rust would you recommend even still going with one of those 2in1 rust converter primer products? My only reservation is that it seems very thick when it goes on and not sure what would happen if there wasn't much rust to begin with? the table I had was in pretty good shape so I be able to get it down to a very bright smooth finish? Can I just go straight to primer paint at that point? Thanks, Craig

Hi I just logged on today for your restorations of the treadles and I saw at least 15 of your episodes I was so intrigued that I kept on forgetting to tap the like button. I acquired a 1897 New Royal Treadle cabinet. I was so excited and how cute it looked that I didn’t pay attention to the sewing machine that was in it. It was not a treadle machine it was a New Home Sewing machine. But they made changes for it was made to fit a domestic sewing machine. I would like to see if you can help me figure out how to fit a treadle machine which I have but no Cabinet. Can you help me? From what I’ve seen with your videos you’re a master it would you do!

After several moves, one of the metal hinges has dislodged or loosened so one side of machine is lengthened to the point I cannot raise machine out of cabinet. Since I cannot get inside the cabinet to adjust the metal hinge, so you have any suggestions how I can push machine into hinge enough to clear the opened front of wood cabinet. It will not quite clear the cabinet to completely raise the machine up. Help.

Brought home a treadle cabinet for my grandmother’s 1914 Singer 66. It’s in good shape but wasn’t screwed to the cast iron base at all. What kind and size screws should I use?
Plus I’ll be looking for the belt guide & spring as that’s gone but probably not vital to working the treadle itself.

I just inherited my great grandmother's machine but it's in such rough shape. When is it too late for the machine to be saved?

    • @LostMountainRestoration
      @LostMountainRestoration  4 роки тому

It depends on how much emotional investment you have in it vs how much money and time you are willing to invest in its resurrection. Pretty much anything can be restored, it just takes time and money and of course, missing parts. Restored, they don't bring very much money, so if you are going to do it, do it for your heart, not your wallet. Good luck.

At 9:51 - are those counter sunk shanks original? Why a tapered shank onto flat steel? Thumbs up - the process of which you restore is correct.

    • @LostMountainRestoration

I believe they are original, as other machines I have done have the same screws. It does look peculiar. Perhaps Mr. Singer got a deal from his Brother-in-Law on a bunch of screws? Thanks for watching and for your comment - best regards.
