- Calls for the banning of Pitbulls as domestic animals are growing, as more incidents of people getting mauled are reported. In the latest incident, an eight-year-old boy was mauled to death at his home in Vista Park, Bloemfontein after the dog escaped from its enclosure and forced its way through the fence into the boy's yard. Some neighbours of the eight-year-old are worried as other members of the community own Pitbulls. To discuss this we are joined via Zoom by Sizwe Kupelo the Sizwe Kupelo Foundation Founder.

Pitbulls were reared to be fighter's not pets. The owner's must take responsibility for any attacks by these vicious animals.

Are people ignoring the fact that these dogs are killing innocent children? The ability to kill alone should be enough justification that they indeed need to be banned!
Yet again it's the owners fault... We have people killing innocent people who do we blame... Them of course but the root of their life choices were influenced by society and bad guidance from their families... Hence its best to make stricter legislations on the ownership of pitbulls... And control and observe them to ensure their behaviour is monitored... The government should try to look at this as an opportunity to create jobs for the youth...

What about the law against the owener?it's a criminal offence who is the problem the dog or the owener?
The dog is the one who kills, therefore the dog is the problem
@@thularimahlangu6732 the dog offence it's unfortunate yes and tragic but the owener is still responsible for the dogs action if you where a dog tied up the whole day with no human interaction or in some cases not being fed or having no water how would you react if you get out? It all boils down to responsible ownership...and the genetics of the dog as I said in my previous comment if a dog comes from a aggressive bloodline they will be aggressive regardless. there are laws in this country for cases like this but the are not being enforced like they should be. also the ban on these dogs won't slove the problem because another breed will become the new pitbull. The law must be inforced against irresponsible ownership. a pitbull is not for anyone and having more than. One pitbull in your yard unless you know what you doing and responsible then you looking for problems.

I actually saw a video of a pitbull attacking a lion. They are wild animals.

Irresponsible owners are to blame not the dogs. The SPCA should be better empowered to regulate ownership and yard suitability for these animals. Based on this logic Taxis, cars, guns, cigarettes and alcohol should all be banned because of the tragic loss of life they all cause. The only thing this will accomplish is making the yards safer for robbers to target at night while we sleep. They should get the drugs and drug dealers of the streets then there wouldn't be a need for these dogs to begin with.

I can smell an opportunist when I see one, but using our dogs is not right. We have crime that maybe you can partition on. We have drugs that you can use since you say life matters. I feel way safe owning a pitbull than I do with relying on our justice system and police. Beside some of this dogs play very important role like rehabilitation of our kids like mine.
Pitbulls are fantastic family dogs in the right family. The problem is thugs have them as a trophy dog and train them to be vicious.

Per usual, it is the HUMANS fault, as bad owners and lack of self responsibility, let alone intellect but, people always want to blame the wrong thing instead of dealing with the real societal issues. I have 4 pitbulls, my Sister has 3 and I have known plenty in my life and they are the most loving, gentle little love bugs of dogs. The same can not be said about humans. 💯
Very true humans are a problem. Who has power to change human behavior while people are dying? Adults are selfish & unfortunately government can't go house to house training adults. Even if government can successfully deal with societal issues that is a process, and this matter is urgent. In the meantime a ban is a solution, even if the breed can be unbanned later.

A pitbull can't be owed by anyone. You need to be logical stable and financially stable and make the time to do the training

So you are saying that the victims of this tragedy must be blamed since they are human. In this particular case which prompted this interview the dog escaped from it's yard to go and kill a 8 year old neighbours child.

I've had many pitbulls and none have acted viciously! They've said this about Rottweiler, German Shepard, staffie and others. The fact remains, humans are the ones that suppised to be more intelligent but what do we do, use dogs for dog fighting, abuse our wildlife, abuse each humans.
