This is my absolute favorite breed of dog. They are very loving and loyal to a fault. This breed is very intelligent e.g. problem solving intelligence. They are not for disengaged owners. I love this breed so much and there is not a day that goes by when I don’t miss my beloved Sakura. Thank you for this episode.
@@captainrogers2542 They are so intelligent that they do not need humans to solve or figure out the problem for them. They are fiercely independent and loyal to a fault. This breed will give it's life for you. And although I have had a doberman before, they are very different. I love them both.
@@michellefajardo7571 any dog will sacrifice it’s life for their owner/family. Doesn’t matter if it is an Akita or a doberman or a beagle or a street dog. I’m not asking about their characteristics like independence and stubborn, I’m asking about their their intelligence compared to a Doberman. Since you had both, could you elaborate the difference between these two breeds intelligence. In terms on intellect and in terms emotion. Also their personality compared to the doberman since they have such a unique human like character.
From my personal experience an Akita was definitely harder to train than a Doberman. I tried the reward system and it failed miserably. An Akita was also not prey driven. I just kept on training my girl till she got it.
A big thing to remember about the breed is that it's not for everyone. Their gorgeous Teddy Bear looks can be deceiving. They are still big powerful dogs that need an engaged and responsible owner to properly socialize, train and control while out in public. They can be wary of strangers, but do love to socialize with people after scrutinizing and forming their own judgment about you. My boy loves to go hang out at the brewpub and have his chosen people (especially the ladies) fawn all over him, take pictures, and generally boost his ego. Dog parks can be especially difficult because some (especially males) can be dog-aggressive; and off-leash experiences need to be closely monitored because they are strong-willed, fast to act and super aware of everything going on in their environment. You never really "own" a Japanese Akitainu, if you're lucky, they will allow you to serve them and in return they'll provide you with undying devotion and companionship like no other breed I've ever experienced.
TRUE my big boy Kimpachi is very beautiful and VERY strong but he doesn't like other dogs especially when he sees someone walking their dog he jumps up and his bark shakes the house lol but we love him we just don't love that severe shedding other than that were looking for a female Japanese Akita right now
Favorite breed of dog is the Akita, I grew up with a Japanese American Akita mix and an American Akita. Very loyal, very protective, only barks when needed, playful “in private” while bold and confident and watching everything while out in public. If you train them early you’ll have one of the best dog experiences throughout their lifetime.
I always love hearing about Akita Inus. As cheesy as at is, I fell for the breed after watching a dog anime. The silver brindle in this actually looks like the main character.
I had one that grew to be about 110lbs. Smart, protective, and loyal beyond words. When I was young, he would sleep on the floor in my room and wouldn't go to sleep until i did. Rip Thor.
We saw our first Japanese Akita with its characteristic red (yellow/orange) colour in our neighbourhood a few months ago. What a majestic dog breed it is!
Anyone who knows Hachiko from pictures will immediately recognize that he does not look like Akita Inu‘s of today. He looks more like a smaller American Akita. While the modern Akita Inu is much more Spitz like. Hugely interesting.
This my first time ever seeing a Japanese Akita wonderful dog breed my dad had 5 American Akitas they where the most loyal dog breed ever but he always had to clean up dead possums in the yard lol.
Rare to hear an Akita enthusiast say the breed was used for fighting. They were, but your average AKC breeder will swear “it hunted bears! See it even looks like a bear! Please believe me!”
Pretty sure DNA testing revealed American Akitas have Tosa in them. Japanese wanted to keep the pure Akita and and gave the American service members the Tosa influenced Akitas.
Even though the American Akita is indeed very cool all around we all have to admit that the Japanese Akita it does look way more rustic and acts way more as a not domesticated animal besides his way higher resemblance of a wolf/fox/bear type of animal
Excellent Zeke! Very knowledged and thorough in regards to the history of these 2 sister breeds. We recently obtained a Labrakita (Sire, Labrador Retriever cross American Akita)/ Shepweiler (Dam, German Shepherd cross Rottweiler (we're pretty sure). 1 noticeable trait is his aversion to new people. Once he knows they're cool, it's all good. But before that he's suspicious of anyone.
Thanks for the video. After 40 years of living with cats (literally every day from birth to almost my 41st birthday), I want a dog. My wife told me the Japanese Akita Inu is the best one to meet my character, so lets see. I actually wanted a fullblood Greyhound, but the Akita is very interesting as well.
I personally liked the Akita inu during Emperor taishos time. A warriors dog, they looked very much like the American Akita. The commoner bred out some nice characteristics after WW2 when Royalty and samurai were no longer the only people who could have them.
Definitely, there are two different breeds. The American Akita and the Akita Inu are different breeds. I have one of each, and I appreciate the differences as well as the similarities.
I love the Akita I just wish they had much more energy and overall drive. They definitely make great fighters and will not hesitate to confront other dogs if pushed
How American to take a dog breed, modify it to look something quite different and then trying to claim it's more like the original than the original. 😂
@@johnnylong2049 Mixed breed dogs are usually healthier than purebred dog breeds because they have a larger gene pool and are therefore not as susceptible to breed-specific diseases. This is especially noticeable with street dogs. Most are extremely resilient.

@ACEKING No. That's an American Akita, as per any kennel club in the world. An Akita Americain in France, an American Akita in the UK, an American Akita German Club, etc, etc, etc, etc. They have to either mend the title or mend the pic. Either the video is about The Akita, and then its corrects because both American and Japanese Akitas are Akitas, or then the pic is of an Akita and you delete all footage of American Akitas in the video. Other than that, the video is mistakenly mixing two dog breeds with different standards and history. Fun fact: although not legally banned, the American Akita can't be brought into Japan, nor bred from semen into a Japanese Akita female.
The dogs shown (red and brindle) are probably pure japanese akita's but their markings are not urajiro (gentle fading into white) but 'pied'. A white collar or spot on the back of the neck of a red akita is not desired either. I guess in the Usa the division between the two breeds is more recent than in the rest of the world.
They're closer to wolves than dogs. They own you, not the other way around. You can't form their psyche according to yours, they don't vibe with that. To get along with an Akita you need to forfeit some fights. You want to make them believe something was their idea when it was ok fact yours. They show love but in a very reserved, japanese way.
so sad to hear you say that about your akita!! do it a favor and find a great home that people know about akitas and the way they act have a american akita male the best dog I have ever had did research for a year and was around alot of them and had a great trainer that knew akitas
In what respect are they annoying? This breed is hard work.If someone owns this breed just for its looks without researching the breed then they are in for a shock.

American Akita are temperamentally disastereous. Unstable, dangerous, and unpredictable.
Americans made that breed massive!
💯
And then ruin it with health problems 🥲
American akita is healthier than the Japanese akita. I am not biased as I own a Japanese type akita.
I heard breed dogs tend to have less of the health issues their counterparts have.
