It wasn't so much the technology, as it was the budget. There were plenty of animated movies from 2003 (and earlier) that still look good today. You give the 2010s way too much credit in terms of technology. The 2010s have been mostly touch ups of previous technologies and methods.

I remeber EVERY Halloween for the last 3 years my little sis goes home early on Trick or Treat and then she watches it without me. I make her watch it again. I absolutely LOVE it though so she has to watch it twice! THough I I wouldn't even mind if we watched it one hundred times and I would not get bored. It's just too cute!! XD
