Taking your advice I hung a mock scrape near my water hole about 4 weeks ago using a vine. Within 48 hours it was hit by about 10 does and 4 mature bucks!!! I couldn't believe it. Now it is getting hit daily!!! Thanks for everything!!!!
It’s go time my friend!! Saturday and Sunday look great!!!
It sure is Brian...we can't wait!! Can't wait to hear about it from you!
Your videos have really helped me on very high pressure public land in South East Michigan. I hunt small parcels of public land with high pressure and have become more successful thanks to your videos
Thanks again Jeff. Looking forward to another season in WV with two new mock scrapes. They do work and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. Also, congrats to you and Jen on the recent wedding.
Started Set up these scraps in July this year on our land. Been seeing them used on camera and in person. Really good advice as always!
That's awesome...so rewarding!
Jeff, i posted a short not too long ago about a vine mock scrape.. i hung it 6/30 at 2:34pm. At 6/30 2:39pm was my first video of a deer using the vine scrape. Incredible!!!
Now that is pretty dang awesome...and definitely the fastest I have heard about!!
Hung a vine a few years ago, it’s my most used mock. All the deer play with it!
Very cool!! We love them...highly effective...the most effective...and virtually FREE 😁
Appreciate the content Jeff! I’m finally starting to figure out these mock scrapes.
I was hoping to get out this weekend for early antlerless season, but the weather is looking really warm. The weather is looking perfect for the opening of archery season, so I'm still excited.
That 8pt is a beast!
Man he is so beautiful George!
This is when the motion detection grid that Moultrie offers would be great. My security cameras have it and I love it. You could select where the vine hangs down and it won’t detect motion in that area. I’m sure other brands will start to incorporate it soon
What's really cool is the quality cameras don't set off with the moving vine 😉 In the first place...
Jeff, thanks for all the videos!! You should design an L-shaped 20 acre parcel with a pond in
The middle
I appreciate the truthful integrity. I have been using your template for mock scrapes for 7 years now. Camera's don't lie. They work.
I really appreciate that John! I would feel so dishonest telling someone they need to use scent. That I'm sponsored by. When I know folks don't need to!
Yeah it seems like now the trend is rope scrapes using scent! Why wouldn’t you just use something natural like a vine?
The trend is definitely because it's turned into a product and folks in the hunting industry are paid big dollars to push it from sponsors. There are also some in the industry that wouldn't use something natural because I originated the concept and they wouldn't be caught dead using that advice, even if best for their situation...
Good stuff.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the great video! What should I do if I have a perfect spot to hang a mock scrape but the only available branches to hang it from are 15-20 ft high? Should I just use a very long string or hang a super long branch?
Hi Jeff. Do you ever replace the vine with a new one or it’s fine to leave that same one there for many years?
Hi Colton, I only replace the vine when it breaks...I would say on average every 3-4 years?
Got got thanks. We have been doing this for a while after seeing one of your videos a long time ago. My son shot a beautiful 8 point last year while he was in the vine scrape.
Ps
You the man. Really appreciate all your knowledge and the way you share it
Ohhh... there are some sponsors out there that are getting red-faced and increasing blood pressures after seeing this. lol
Lol, at least not MY sponsors 😁
I tryed the vine in mountains of Pennsylvania and deer don't seem bother it. What could I do different?
Hi Douglas...make sure it's on a trail, in front of a stand...flat surface, waist high, no obstruction around the scrape. Hemlock branches work v rub well too! Along with oak. Maybe try something besides the oak or hemlock?
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 juniper AKA as cedar in carolina is prefered or sweet bay. I find scrapes under Yaupon Holly and I think they chew the leaves as they are high in Caffine?
I’ve had good success with vines for several years. I recently added a couple hemlock branches to the vine and deer traffic seems to have picked up even more. Have you ever tried this?
Hemlock, Jack pine (the original ones I used nearly 20 years ago), oak, Aspen...lots of choices! Keep in mind this is also when scrape use picks up during this time of the year as well. We've opened up the scrapes underneath a few recently and had immediate hits too. Nothing to do with anything more than fresh earth and a big visual dirt patch on the ground. Not saying adding a branch isn't helpful, but a lot of other factors to consider
I'm quite confused. I hung a cedar scrape thinking it would last longer but nothing. They'll use the salt block nearby though. Another I used a muscodine vine but they kept nibbling on it (vine was still growing from theb ground). A third one on the opposite end of my land was a junk Beech limb. It's hit and miss. What am I doing wrong?
It really depends on the setup. Red cedar is actually pretty good if shaved down. Just make sure you follow the exact steps. Only use branches or vines they actually rub or scrape.
Yes! So hard to get hunters to understand they don't need to use scents. We hung 4 vine mock scrapes last year after watching 1 of your videos. Vine was cut green. Deer were using the vines adding their scent within 12 hours!
It truly is amazing! And so much more effective...
Started using vine mocks on my property and was doubted by other hunters. I was told by my father in law that rope and scent was best. 2 years later my vines are hammered by all the deer year round and that sticky rope is lucky to catch one walking by. THANK YOU JEFF! I’d hug you if I saw you! 😂
I use them to start scrapes early but im Leary about that, i quit using drippers awhile back! Way to expensive for anything maybe worth using!
Best channel out there. Love it. Yall are real
I hunt Federal Land they would frown on almost any trail creation, however the fire breakers often provide lanes
Would hanging a licking branch over an existing scrape that the deer made help that scrape at all? I have a few on my land under hemlock trees but didn’t notice any low hanging limbs that they would use as a licking branch
I hung a mock scrap two years ago, hung it in May with a camera and got no activity on it. Camera was up till Jan. It was on an active trail but the deer seemed to go around it. Do I need a water hole with it ? There is a creek at the bottom of the hill not even 100yds away. Also do you take them down after the season, the on I hung is still up.
Any one want to tell me how to get rid of Iron Weed and Indian Hemp... its taking over a portion of my food plot.
Do i need to use a vine we dont get many that diameter in central ontario?
What drone do you guys use?
Jeff what kind of vine? In Oklahoma the only vines I know of are Poison Ivy Vines. I have used some Willow branch with decent success but would like your opinion. Thanks
We use old grape vines. BUT, any branch from a tree they normally rub or scrape under is great.
I've been watching a very big buck on Va public. i haven't taken the time to make a mock scrape because the area i feel the scrape needs to be is very close to his bedding area so i only go in to change the sd card out and immediately leave. im actually going to check the sd card in a few days. Would it be a good idea to go ahead and make the mock scrape, or do you think i can go in on the day i plan to hunt him ( when the conditions are in my favor) and set up the mock scrape and see how it will play out.
Hi Jeremy! I would make it next time in...and then hunt after that. Make a really nice, big dirt patch for the scrape too, and pee in it 😊
So my question is i founf two horozontal scrapes and stuck a camera between them can i pee under it to stir up the bucks?
You sure can...I would also add a vertical scrape in the spot so that you can always have a scrape there long after the horizontal scrape is gone.
The best hunting lure out there and it's almost free! Been using them since you introduced them to the public long ago. One of the best tools in the toolbox! Thanks Jeff!
Thanks a lot for watching Dan, we appreciate you!
You could bottle and sell your pee, haha.
I normally only hunt public land.
Now that's pretty funny 😂
I do the grape vines now all because of jeff,
3 years going strong
That's awesome! Happy for you 😊 So much fun
Great Chanel
Thank you very much Wayne!
Question, if you were permission farm mostly a ridge. Where would you blow your scent of deer come from 360 degrees? Thank you
Great tip 👍
Thank you very much!
I have used the grapevine mock scrape method and the natural hemp rope scrape. My experience is the rope worked the best for me, easily 3X more deer on the rope vs the vine. Just my experience
I love these Jeff Thank you ... last year i seen your video on these it was oct 24 th NY. i had my first in person sighting on day 3 i filmed it every sit i seen at least one deer hit it 3 bucks and about 5 doaes in seperate sightings and was blown away all season never fired a shot last year , im going for mature bucks only now .. so looking forward to only going in there this year on the perfect days i cant start till oct 15 th so game on from there on . i have other places to hunt on the 50% days ... thank you so much im 65 been hunting for 51 years and this and you are the coolest things ive seen ever PS congats on the weeding and the baby God bless you guys ....
Them vines work great, been using them for years. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thx for all this free info… it’s making me a much more educated deer hunter… good luck this season everyone 👍
How about the use of pre orbital scent only when you first set up the mock scrape? Just to get to started not as something used for repeated application
Going hard in the paint on being anti rope since the Golden Rope just hit the market LOL
At first I didn’t think it could be this simple. I gave it a try and now I will not use anything else!
I’ve used them for 3 yrs now bucks and does hit it all the time in western pa
🦌😁
Morning Connor!
Thanks Jeff
