Yes yes, directors cut, it’s the best thing I have seen in ages, I get emotional every time I watch it… I watch it a lot
The directors cut of this is amazing and also Imo Coldplay are so much more authentically themselves now. Others wouldn’t agree but i think it’s because a lot of ppl who liked their alt music just don’t like pop.. they do a mixture with more pop lately but the story in the albums all the way to recently is so beautiful and insightful.. anyway nice reaction. You need to listen to their song coloratura for real
you're missing out. Watch the director's cut.
I saw it on his 99th birthday.
Every day since as well.
Enchanting.
🌲🐾
When Chris ad libs and makes the words fit for Dick on the spot is just perfect. His joy in Chris’s words was so lovely to see ❤
Today (12/13/24) is Dick Van Dyke’s 99th birthday.
Awesome!
I noticed that the video doesn't focus much on Chris Martin's vocal abilities, but I truly believe he is an exceptional vocalist, and here's why:
1.Chest voice to falsetto transition: One of Chris Martin's defining vocal techniques is his seamless transition between chest voice and falsetto. It's so natural that the listener doesn't even notice the shift, making it feel effortless. This is particularly evident in songs like *"Fix You"* and *"The Scientist"*, where the melody is beautifully crafted with a perfect blend of these two registers.
2.Contrast between low and high tones: Martin has an incredible ability to move from soft, low tones to powerful, energetic high notes. This dynamic range adds drama and vibrancy to his performances, as showcased in songs like *"Viva La Vida"* and *"Yellow"*.
3.The lightness and beauty of his falsetto: His falsetto is both delicate and strong, giving his songs an emotional depth that's hard to replicate. It's not just technically impressive but also emotionally compelling, drawing the listener in with its sincerity.
4.Combining softness and energy: One of Martin's unique qualities is how his voice balances gentleness and power simultaneously. This texture makes his performances both intimate and impactful, a rare quality that reflects his natural talent and years of vocal mastery.
Chris Martin's vocal style may not rely on overly showy techniques, but his emotional delivery, technical skill, and unique tone make him a truly remarkable vocalist.

Watched it a million times and I cry every time.....the joy and happy feeling this gives me is incredible xxxxxx
I know he’s such a good musician writer performer..such a pro. Sooo good .
Lovely reaction! The woman he is dancing with in the video is his current wife. I highly recommend watching the director's cut as well. Very sweet and more moments with Dick Van Dyke and Chris interacting.
Will do 😊
Sterling, your reaction to this video really connected with me. I feel very similar to everything you said.
Thanks for your humanity in what you are sharing.
Greetings from Würzburg, Germany.
Cheers, Thomas
Thanks Thomas 😊
Best reaction video of all I've seen on UA-cam.
I’m curious why you say that? I thought this was a sarcastic comment at first.
I’ve watched this 50x since I found the video, I absolutely love this I grew up watching Dick Van Dyke & Mary Tyler Moore so this hits my heart in the feels. The song is amazing & that is his wife dancing with him ❤
Ahh got it. Glad we could share in it digitally and spread the love. Good stuff 😊
When Dick mentions his own passing....that gets me every time😢
Watch the directors cut, i agree. The absolute joy on Van Dyke's face at the piano with Chris. ❤❤❤❤❤
Damn who's cutting onions in here. 😢
Great vid, great commentary, Sterling!
5:52 he just hit 99 and he was safe from the Malibu fires..ah he made a joke if you will that his birthday candles set off the fires.
I hope he gets to see his 100th birthday.
If you followed Coldplay, you would know that millions of fans live whatever they record. I mean if I could actually get a ticket and afford it, I would fly all over the world to see and hear them perform. They admit they aren't the best band and Chris openly says he is not the best vocalist, but that does not matter to those of us who live his writing and the songs. They admit they went a little off course at one point as they tried to find a new way to reach people. I think that's what bands do. Still, I can find songs on all albums that I love. Chris is a ball of energy. He says that he does it for the fans and the band will stop recording new albums once #10 is done. They will tour, but not make albums. With all the crap music on the air the last couple of decades, it is nice to hear bands like Coldplay. Also, Chris has a vocal coach to this day. He never tried to reach the high notes before. It's something he wanted to try, and I love his efforts.
Awesome reaction video, enjoyed this :)
I think Chris is a very good singer, not the best, but as you said, he works with what he have, and it works so good, such a beautiful and vulnerable voice
Hey Sterling, great reaction - I agree, it's too easy to write off Coldplay and overlook their superlative ears for melody, storytelling and great production values.
Thom Yorke of Radiohead used falsetto a lot too - Radiohead's production is incredibly organic. More recently, Ren is one of the most exciting artists in all fields, not just voice. Ren's use of a multitude of vocal techniques should be of interest to any musician.
Begin the Ren Rabbit Hole with "Hi Ren" - please react to this masterpiece - I'm sure you'll find a ton to appreciate in this incredible work of art.
And for incredible falsetto use, check out Ren's friend Sam Tompkins - their duet "Blind Eyed" is fab, and Sam's voice is otherworldly.
For storytelling, check out Ren's Tales of Jenny, Screech and Violet - this is another level of musicianship and story telling, and you won't be disappointed. Only constantly surprised.
Sterling it’s way too early in the morning to be crying lol… what a great video my friend. This was beautiful.
Haha. Coldplay knew what they were doing man. 😂
Chris is simply the one and only but you Sterling, I didn‘t know you, are a very cool and handsome guy too. 😊🌹
Very powerful.
Agree on all your points
Thanks
Check out The Karate Kid video for a wide range of his vocals. Incredible song. Sounds like old Coldplay. I appreciate you saying how he changed how he was able to sing those stronger notes. I always wondered why with the first 3 albums I can sing along with every song and hit every note and then later it got much harder. That makes so much sense. Great video!
8:28 I have very limited knowledge of,I just love unique interesting vocalizations, Prince,Debbie Harry ,Lauper , Siouxsie, Garland later years for myself.❤
You watched the video on Dick's 99th birthday🤩💯
I prefer this video over the director's cut. It's more polished. The Director's cut is cool if you want more talking and story.
👍👍
I left music when music videos became a thing. Back when the presenter/DJ didn’t interrupt the song to tell me their thoughts. Write your own music and stop judging others music. Passive income is do tempting.
I’ve released seven albums and scored two full length films. Written a little music haha. Why are you watching reaction videos to then get mad and comment about reactions.
How can you react to videos stopping every 10 secs
I did that specifically to make you upset. Nah ha. People do this to help give commentary and not have the video flagged and taken down right away from copyright.
What is it with the Dick van Dyke thing? Am I the only one who doesn’t get it? 🤷♂️. I just thought this was a love song. Maybe it’s a USA thing🤔
This is one of the most beautiful things ever produced. YOU ARE DESTROYING IT. TALK AFTER
I get where you're coming, I feel the frustration too. But this is a video commentary of the music video and not meant to provide the entertainment you would receive from watching the music video
my kin on this earth. there are countless people out there who just do "watch with me" react formats if thats what youre looking for. This is a vocal coach analysis, completely fine for you not to like it, but youre looking for something in the wrong place
Easy does it.
We can always choose to watch the original without commentary before watching a reaction video.
How about that?
Too much talking during. Take the video in and then analyze. Bye
Like every other reaction video. Got it
Are you an expert in the business are you out there entertaining I've loved cold play the first time I heard them. Didn't need criticism loved that song and video. Sorry you had to crisisize his flausito. Go listen to the bee gees
Director's cut...old age...
Water buffalo…Tupperware container…
Sorry, i think you are making this more about yourself than the reaction, Dick Van Dyke "you don't really know who he is "
… my reaction is about me. Can’t really react for someone else haha. I’m a pro musician and vocal coach. This is my channel. These are my ideas, views and reactions. Makes sense.
Too many stops
Ever listen to the Bee Gees? What a stupid statement about falsetto.
What statement? About where I grew up? Did you grow up where I did?
