Yes, there is a culture of leisure dining that many restaurants want to change. Imagine occupying a chair for two hours while ordering only a bottle of water and a coffee. I understand how the restaurant owner feels-I’ve been in their shoes. Trust me, they want to kick you out too. Five euros for two hours of taking up a chair? What is this, a park? That’s exactly what the owner thinks of you when you do that.
@@johncmordan yeah completely understandable if it's a restaurant (not a cafe or a bar) and you occupy seats with a coffee for 2h but I'm referring to complete meals (as you would normally do in the restaurant)
We love your videos and enjoy when your husband participates. You are our favorite Spain UA-cam channel and really helping with our inspiration to move to Valencia. You continually find interesting topics that most of the other UA-cam channels are not doing. Great work! Please keep making these wonderful videos and as you are newer to Valencia, we are really interested in how you see the city and country. We are particularly impressed with your research and your professional way of presenting history and culture. What is your background? Did you study journalism in school? Thanks for another great video, we’ll be waiting for the next one. PS much love to Valencia and all those who have endured the recent flooding. ❤
Thanks Mark! 🤗 I am so so glad to hear that 🙌🏻 You always motivate me to do more! Hehe no, but I studied tourism at some point though, maybe that helped 😅
"The thing about tipping here in the States is that cafa waiters and bar tenders are pain so little that they depend on tips to survive!" That depends on the state you live in. I live in a state that has a higher minimum wage and the town I live in is low cost to live and maybe 20K people, but even the local greasy spoon diner has to pay $16 per hour so even on a day of bad tips the wait staff (and bartenders) can easily make $30 per hour. Give them a busy shift and they rake it in over the course of a few hours.
¿No heating? The part where I live in Spain has already go below 0C this month, if I hadn't a heating gas system I would be pushing up the daysies. Maybe you live in southern Spain where it is more AC than heating needed, but be sure, there is heating in most inner Spain
You should really lock the door. It's very easy to open if you don't. There was one time I closed the door to my house and forgot the keys inside. I called my insurance company and they sent me this guy who opened the door with a piece of plastic in total silence. I lock my door since then
It is very tiring to have to disprove stereotypes over and over again. It is not true that in Spain you have dinner at eleven at night, that could be on a special occasion, on a weekend, or in the summer during vacations, not every day during the work week.
I start eating dinner every night at that time: me, my brothers, my parents, my grandmother, my friends... What do you mean we don't eat dinner at that time? You might not do it, but there are many people who do. And don't get so tired of refuting anything, or you might break your brain cell.
Exactly. I have dinner at 9 pm and most days earlier. I'm also so tired of these spanish stereotypes of spaniards having dinner very late and all is party and fiesta.

Not my problem. They can find a better job or demand a living wage.
My cocktail is already $20.

exMichigan in Spain since 2000🇪🇸🇪🇺🍷👍
Live in a small fishing village on the Castellón región.
That’s amazing! 🙌🏻 Do you visit Michigan often?

yeah agreed! I was actually paranoid about forgetting my keys inside while filming that part 😅
Of interest is the joint assessment of living conditions with her American husband. How do the assessments differ?

I said in the video UP to 11pm, not that they start at 11 at night
And you can find packed restaurants in that span of time any weekly day. I'm a Spaniard and not necessarily go out dinner only weekends.
Dining out during the week is not the norm, and it does not stick to normal schedules.

I always laugh when I see on American TV ppl eating something - they always say "it's so fresh" they never say "it's so tasty"....
Love your takes on life in the US. All so true and delivered with humor. You’re the best
Thanks Patrick!!🤗
