I never knew that I wanted to stalk the decks of a cruise ship in search of coffee, hungover from dancing until dawn the night before... until I saw that silk pajama/robe set. My Goodness what glamour.
I will now think of you as the heiress of the Rudolph Empire, because you looked like the rebellious, independent, adventurous heiress that travels the world solving international crime mysteries and snatching innocents from the Jaws of death while looking fabulous. I think I saw you in a news reel at the Bijoux Theater.
All those photos in the beginning looked exactly like my mom and made me start sobbing because she would have loved all your outfits so much. She was a sewist her whole life. Thank you for reminding me of that happy memory.
I love all of your outfits! And you can tell that you are comfortable in the clothes because you wear them like clothes (not costumes). I'm glad you had a great trip, it sounded fantastic!
That's such a great way to put it. That was the feeling I got too about her wearing them instead of them wearing her but I didn't know how to word it right. They just look right on her.
I love the fact that this wardrobe made you feel more you. At 60 yo, I finally started wearing what I want, not what fashion dictates. The wardrobe is beautiful and beautifully done. This sounds like so much fun.
Me, too, after an unexpected, but welcome, weight loss in my late 50s (from daily walking), I needed a wardrobe three sizes smaller, but I decided to revert to my always-loved classic style. Now 62, I have a beautiful wardrobe of mostly very high-quality clothes and accessories in my this favorite, classic style of my youth and stopped trying to force myself into the trendy local Boho/casual one, the best fashion decision I ever made. I am mature and I decided that I can wear what I love, it’s really freeing. I stick out in my silk dresses and skirts, blazers, etc., in a world of ragged black synthetic gym clothes, but I don’t care - I feel like Me again!🙂
I'm really impressed that none of this looks costume-y at all - it just looks like you have incredible vintage style. That, plus the ability to adjust on the fly for the weather and circumstances, really says that you've knocked it out of the park. This is such a great project and inspiration - thank you for sharing it with us!
Aaah yes, UK weather in autumn. I love it when my family plans to visit and they ask me "what weather can I expect in sept/oct/nov/dec?" the simple answer is All Of It. Expect every weather known to man.
It is fascinating to see the style of the era and how it varied from day to day. I've been weeding through my grandma's diaries from the 1920s for what she wore and there's a huge list I'm working on. I'm having a blast comparing my grandma's list to what you made for this trip!
That's a potential video if you and Nicole are within reach of eachother. Comparing records of a time lived to planning a wardrobe that suits two eras of activities.
Very glad to see someone I trust using Numi undershirts! Its a bit of an investment but I just bought my first one so that I can actually wear my hand-knit sweaters without feeling terribly anxious. This makes me feel much better about the purchase
I wear thin knitted silk tees from Amazon, they feel superb and are so easy to wash and quick to hang dry. I think they are less expensive than Numi undershirts, too, about $30-40. I often try to find a natural-fiber alternatives to those specialty items like Numi that are so expensive.
I really appreciate your comments about sewing for beyond the cruise, to create garments that helped you be yourself. It's actually rather challenging, as l yearn to incorporate more mid 30s into my day-to-day wardrobe because the style feels more like me. The challenge is to actually make the garments instead of just dreaming about it and wishing I had them. Thank you for being honest. And l think your choices were perfect, you obviously enjoyed wearing most of them. The smile said you were very comfortable!
Congratulations! You did such an amazing job on this project for this trip and cruise. You definitely went above and beyond all the other folks I've seen prepping for this cruise, and you made a daily commitment to dress in period outfits, and not just for the cruise or the special events. Bravo! I also just loved all your outfits. They were beautiful, well thought out, and just fit you and your personality perfectly. I don't remember your outfits from last year's NY trip being disappointing, but you certainly did not disappoint us or yourself this year. Looking forward to seeing your next interesting project.
Nicole, you looked utterly stylish and fabulous at every turn! Is there a more sublime voice recording today than the fine Mr. Wellington?! Seeing so much delightful fashion against the magical backdrop of the QMII, and then with the glorious soundtrack. My, my, it must have been an extraordinary experience! I'm sorry our utter unseasonal UK weather caught so many of you off-guard, last year you'd all have been well suited in your layers of wool, your scarves, and fabulous hats, it caught us just as off-guard I can promise you!
This video completely fascinated me because themed events are a LOVE of mine. A 1920’s themed cruise with your abilities as a seamstress, hat maker and shoe maker was a match made in heaven! I loved seeing what it looked like “back then” before our culture devolved into nothing but jeans and t shirts and very casual fast fashion. Your entire wardrobe was elegant, and even the “casual” comfortable clothing was something to admire. I know this video took so much time to create, (after having handmade every single thing in your wardrobe!) so thank you for making it for us. What a fun morning this was, looking at your nine months of hard work come together in a beautiful way!
It ALL looks so WONDERFUL. And isn't that the way things go. I once went on a ten day trip in the late Summer. I packed shirt sleeves for the heat of the day, long sleeves for the cool of the evening. Sweaters for if it got cold. . . .and then it snowed 8 inches overnight. Everyone got a new winter coat on that trip
At first I didn't realize you were wearing the red silk dress and was simply struck by how scrumptious it looks...and you look in it. I loved getting to see both the photo shoot version of the outfits and what they looked like as you wore them for real.
It's amazing you went on The Queen Mary 2, she's the last ocean liner left. Back in the days it was the only way to travel. She's build to withstand anything really, not like a cruise ship. A cruise ship is a floating shoe box.
You all look gorgeous! It's wonderful the impact you make when you're all together. A wild 1900-1940's pack running about in their natural environment all being absolutely fabulous! Thank you for taking us all along for the journey 😊
This is fantastic and I'm super jealous! Fun fact, the Lindy Hop wasn't actually developed until the 1930's... 1920's was all about the Charleston (and the Balboa, I think.) Similarly, the music in the dance clips is not 20's music, but dates to the 30's and 40's.
What a terrific trip! It's always fun to hang out with your girlfriends, and even better when they are costumers (or vintage garb aficionados). Your color choices work so well for you, with your makeup and hairstyle. So much of what you wore reminds me of my New York City raised grandmother, and the photos she and her sister took of their best dresses and hats from the 1920s. She was an amazing seamstress in her own right, and made most of my Mom's fancy dresses in the 1950s. I'm seriously in awe of your shoe-making skills.
I'm glad you touched on one of my favorite things about dresses: simple way to look like you put so much more care into getting dressed than you actually did! I put on one single piece of clothing but look so fancy!
It was an uncommonly warm October here in Scotlands' Central Belt - I am glad the weather held up for you in Edinburgh and at Stirling Castle, though Glasgow has been APPALLINGLY wet this autumn, I cannot recall such a wet, damp autumn in years. And yes, the cobblestones around Glasgow University are very unforgiving when wearing high heels, especially when wet and covered in leaves.
Love the after action outfit review. As someone who's done way more dancing than dressing up (with a teeny bit of sewing), shoes that are comfortable to walk in are comfortable to dance in. The only caveat there is whether the outsole is appropriate for the dance floor. I'm specifically thinking of outsoles of rubber on sprung wooden floors.
Oh my dear!! That yellow and gold formal looked AMAZING on you!! My jaw dropped! You look fabulous in that entire wardrobe, to be sure, but that dress is an absolute stunner!
Now you just need to make yourself a winter coat and summer garments, and you have your clothes sorted for the next several years. PS. I love the red dress you are wearing and the black and mint velvet outfit. But the clothes all look great on you!
Loved seeing all of the outfits you were able to put together! This whole series has been super inspiring. It was also fun to see all the footage from the cruise and re-live the whole trip again 🥰
I love the green suit - that colour is perfect on you! I had a tweedy holiday in Scotland recently and discovered Walker Slater in Edinburgh - I wanted everything in the shop!!
@@NicoleRudolph A tweed and tartan haul! If you ever get a chance to visit the Isle of Harris, I would highly recommend it. It's a bit of a trek, but worth it for the scenery and the tweed. A little easier to get to (in the it's on the mainland!) is Lochcarron Weavers. They do almost any tartan you can think of in the most gorgeous wool.
@@NicoleRudolph Clearly the way to do this is to partner up with UK folk at your destination who have been crying at the cost (or impossibility - a lot of US vendors simply don't ship to the UK!) of shipping from the US - and rather than travelling with an empty case, play postman and bring a suitcase of everyone's US purchases across ;) If you truly were going for the empty case option, I suspect it might well turn out cheaper to buy a new case over here in the UK rather than paying to transport an empty case - especially since if it wasn't packed with anything at all, it might be vulnerable to getting crushed by others' heavy luggage.
Thank you for sharing your trip. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you make collate your clothing and accessories for your trip. Then to follow you on your trip and see how your wardrobe items were dressed in various ways was really interesting. No wonder society ladies travelled with steamer trunks to get everything in and a maid to assist with dressing, undressing and care of the garments.
“I felt like me.” ❤️ Sometimes when I travel I try on a version of myself; that can be fun and rewarding! Exploring a new place and a different aspect of me. Other times staying with my comfortable, undistracting version allows me to immerse myself in the situation easier. But always, always stay true to yourself!
This is such a gorgeous wardrobe for you- everything looks beautifully vintage but nothing looks like a costume- you look comfortable and like yourself in every outfit, I'm so glad that it all came together for you!
Nicole:*shows her excel spreadsheet of outfit changes* Me: Is Nicole a Virgo? Everything looked so Good! And it’s awesome you got to have such a whirlwind trip! Now it’s time to wear nothing but pjs and nap lol!
I cannot imagine 3 weeks including a cruise, walking through parts of Edinburgh and shopping (and visiting Bernadette) in London but only buying several ties and a sweater during the trip to fill in. I overpack for comic con weekends. So I can only be amazed that just excessive humidity in town and wind on deck were the only limiters to the capsule wardrobe. Makes total sense having the camera/tech and shoes in a carry-on for flights. I laughed when I saw the spread sheet, but it really is the only way both to keep track during the trip and for later posts on social media. How was everything kept clean and fresh? I also use the steam after my shower to de-wrinkle clothing, but steam can only go just so far.
So I've never understood the appeal of a modern cruise - the ships seem huge, overwhelming, and expensive. This cruise, though, looked incredible and elegant and helps so many vintage romance novels (and Nancy Drew books tbh) make sense!!
This is THE way of showing the whole wardrobe. It is very nice. You look very comfortable and fashionable in them, and, at the same time that they are historic clothes, they are also wearable!! Excellent job! Your thorough planning definitely paid off.
The wardrobe you created is stunning! And I’ll echo what others have said in that it doesn’t come off as costume-y, it’s vintage inspired and highly wearable. I also appreciate that you gave us some footage of Dandy and his band. They’re very good!
I am in love with the emerald, chartreuse, light blue and mint in your wardrobe. I feel like I need more of these in my own wardrobe for mixing and matching.
Ah, love this vid & clothes. Inspirational capsule show, and that *cape*! Have a feeling you'll get a lot of mileage out of that since it is fashionable from vintage to current day. Brava!
How it's absolutely magically unbelievable to have a chance to study lindy-hop and music history and dancing each evening with such amazing people ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Still can't imagine this miracle in our modern world🥲🥲🥲
I love all of them! My favorite was the lighter green blouse with the dark green suit dress. Also the dark greens and burgundy colors look great on you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this whole thing together! The designs are great and you wore them so well. That red dress is gorgeous and looks so lush with that red chair. I also love that in your video and Abby's there were so many women dancing with other women - no one stuck on the sidelines waiting for a male partner. Looks like you all had a great time.
You all look absolutely wonderful ❤️ I'm glad had such a great time. When you stepped us through your wardrobe plans a while back I was wondering how much luggage you'd have to take.. not as much as I thought! xx
Fabulous! Thankyou: I enjoyed this! I particularly like your wonderful hats that you wear so well; such a disappointment that you were unable to show them off as often as you wished on the cruise - but I am sure that you are featuring them often now - what a treat for everyone you meet! Very impressed with your sewing skills : ) Best wishes from Australia.
Thank you Nicole for all your hard work! I don't think people really appreciate how much work filming videos can be and then to edit and present them to an audience! I love your channel and just wanted to say thank you!
I now understand why my great grandmother traveled with steamer trunks. I used to play dress up in her clothes. Soft wools, silks, satins, feathers, and boat loads of fur. Amazing!
Your comfortable and coordinated outfits ROCK!! You and your friends really enjoyed all modes of transportation on this trip. You might consider attending the 3 day Duckens On The Strand Victorian era here in Galveston, TX. It happens during the first weekend in December. Thanks for sharing.
Love love love those red boots! You looked great every day. I enjoyed this whole series of creativeness. I imagine a steamer trunk is what people used back then.
Those ties really added another level to the outfits. Looooved this collection and the journey you took us on. What’s next!?!?!?? We need a new journey! You have spoiled us!
Nicole I have enjoyed your videos from planning, design, making, more making 😯💞 to see you finally getting to enjoy your trip! 👍 What a trip of a lifetime. Plus the extra trip to Scotland with your best buddy! 👌 Interesting packing technique. You and the others looked fantastic. Tfs 💗🙏🇨🇦
Hello Nicole Greetings from Ireland. My mother travelled on the Queen Mary II from Southampton to Montreal in 1952. I still have photos of her on the ship. Beautiful dresses and coats. It took her 5 days getting from Ireland to Toronto,Canada. She could remember conversations she had with people on the ship. She passed away 2 years ago.
Thank you for providing so many stores that sell the most detailed and beautiful work I’ve seen in a long time. I love the clothing and shoes. They just don’t make it like that anymore. My grandmother was a master tailor. She could measure you and cut cloth to make the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I have a beautiful gown she made for me and it’s a gown for a black-tie event. There’s huge binders with Polaroids of smiling women wearing her dresses. It’s a wonderful legacy.
So many of the outfits made me gasp with a fair mix of lust and envy. Absolutely drooling over your capsule wardrobe colour scheme. I want everything please
Nicole, I love that you filmed each outfit separately! After following the planning and creating of your wardrobe, it was wonderful to see the entire thing in every iteration! You looked comfortable in every outfit. It's even better that you like and plan to wear every piece in your day-to-day life. That is very satisfying to me. I follow a lot of CosTubers and often think that I would run out of storage space if I made all of those wonderful fancy clothes that are so specifically costumes!
Loved your outfits! I think my very favorites were the black & reds & also the blue w/blue shoes. I'm all about loose fitting pants & suit coats too. I'm glad you had such a good trip. Loved seeing the others in the clothes they had made for the trip too. I felt bad for N having to end her cruise in her room though. At least she had her roommate & seems they enjoyed the time together anyway.
I love all your outfits - thank you for sharing the planning, making and wearing of them. It was my 60th birthday in October and I would have loved to have gone on the cruise, but alas, being from Australia makes it way more expensive, plus concerns about Covid, so I have been living vicariously it through the your videos, and Abby's, and others. Maybe next time!
Seriously Nicole, I know I said this on your last video, but I gotta say it again! That red hair is so frigging flattering on you! I might have to break into your house, (difficult since I live all the over in Sweden) tie you down and force dye your whole head that color. That spreadsheet has me dead :) Great way to keep track of what does not get as much use as you thought and vice versa.
All so fabulous and well thought out. Also I now have a dire need for the dramatic robe. It looks like it's a bit more practical than the object of my other deep robe desire, the sheer marabou one's that women wear in golden age of Hollywood films whilst telling police she hasn't seen her husband in the days and is terribly concerned.
Gorgeous once again ! I personally love the 20s fashion and art so much, so modern, so sassy! And you are a very pleasant ambassador. Go ahead, I love your videos ❤
Hearing your voice crack telling us about how you felt bad about yourself during the trip to NY last year. I remember watching that and wishing I could have been with you all but knowing you felt self conscious, my heart felt that. I love that you got to spend so much time with Abby! ONE DAY I hope to do something like this! ❤
Been watching a few of y’all cruise videos, and I’m so in love. Dandy Wellington comes to the bathing beauty pageant in Galveston every year and he is a joy. Not a whole lot of vintage events in Texas but the few we do have are wonderful. Cruise looks fantastic and so are your clothes!
I love how you mix historically women’s and men’s clothing it feels like I finally found my match! Also loved hearing what the motivation for this wardrobe was after watching most of the videos leading up to the finale. ALSO loved to hear that you weren’t cold because that was my biggest worry seeing all your planning
I love how the pieces work so well together and mix and match and you will be able to wear them for many years to come, a beautiful combination of vintage, yet practical clothing. Dressing in layers was perfect for Scottish weather, it can be so changeable! The band sounded wonderful too!
Such a dreamy wardrobe! It was so smart to use preparation for your big trip as an opportunity to make things that you will use every day, and you made choices that suit you beautifully!
Your wardrobe is gorgeous. I love how you created outfits that were fabulous and practical both. I'm impressed. I seem unable to accomplish anything beyond comfortable frump.
My favorite was the blue or green dress and shoes you made yourself and the cute pants outfit with the green band. Beautiful work on everything! Thank you for sharing your travels and wardrobe. Loved it!
Wow! Everything was so beautiful! I especially liked the light blue dress and the black.and gold evening dress, just wonderful! Such talent and such taste!❤
You look like a star in all your outfits! I didn’t know much about 1920´s fashion before I started watching your channel. I have a new appreciation for it now.
Best advice I can give you is study 1910 to 1940. It will give you all the perspective on how style changed across. My favorite era is 1912-18. Oh and study the cars, they changed as often as fashion, a per year change.
Wardrobe spreadsheet! AH! I love it! Thanks for filming all of them for us! That Glasgow weather will get you! You're either freezing in the morning and fine the rest of the day, or fine in the morning and sweating the rest of the day lol
The black suit with red vest and oxfords is perfect. I reedit: that duit is amazing, goes beautifully with everything. You are behaving so authentically 20ties, i studied photographs of my grandmothers from pre-war...
Great to see your concept come to life. As a Brit I can also concur that the weather was unseasonably warm in the U.K all throughout November an into early Dec!
I have only just gotten into sewing but have always dreamed of making clothes but was always too shy to wear anything I made but from following you and Abby and Burnedette and Morgan and others that I recognize from your cruise. I just want to thank all of you for helping me open that side of myself up.
You are absolutely living my dream! And it was so nice to see you spending time with other like-minded vintage clothes folks that I also follow! All of your pieces were so beautiful, but I would love to know if there's a pattern available for the gorgeous black silk robe that you made. It just looked magnificent! 😍
I am so impressed with your dedication and amazing creativity. The colors and fabrics used for your wardrobe capsule is gorgeous! I love your hats as well, so sad you couldn't wear them on the ship.
I've loved hearing about this cruise from all you historical sewing gals!! It seems like it was SO much fun! I definitely want go on a trip like this some day! It perfectly merges together two of my special interests: jazz music and historical fashion. ALSO, just the fact that you got to dress up in SO MUCH *BEAUTIFUL* clothing and be transported back in time!!! Just amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing this and including clips from the events! I gotta say, I LOVE that black suit with the black trousers (I would love to have a suit like that!) and you looked ABSOLUTELY glamorous in that black silk rob and the purple velvet dress!!! I also really like how gender neutral/andrandrogynous a lot of the outfits were!!
I can’t believe that you RE-FILMED EVERY OUTFIT FOR US. What a pro.
I never knew that I wanted to stalk the decks of a cruise ship in search of coffee, hungover from dancing until dawn the night before... until I saw that silk pajama/robe set. My Goodness what glamour.
I was never quite sold on the stylishness of 20s clothing, but seeing it on Nicole makes it make so much more sense. That gold dress!
I was thinking the same!

@@NicoleRudolph Clearly the way to do this is to partner up with UK folk at your destination who have been crying at the cost (or impossibility - a lot of US vendors simply don't ship to the UK!) of shipping from the US - and rather than travelling with an empty case, play postman and bring a suitcase of everyone's US purchases across ;)
If you truly were going for the empty case option, I suspect it might well turn out cheaper to buy a new case over here in the UK rather than paying to transport an empty case - especially since if it wasn't packed with anything at all, it might be vulnerable to getting crushed by others' heavy luggage.
“I felt like me.” ❤️
Sometimes when I travel I try on a version of myself; that can be fun and rewarding!

Me: Is Nicole a Virgo?
I love that all of you costubers are friends. It's so fun to see you in photos together as a big group in your beautiful clothes
I really love your outfits. Really brought the era to life. The skirt suits and evening dresses are stunning. You are so talented.
So I've never understood the appeal of a modern cruise - the ships seem huge, overwhelming, and expensive. This cruise, though, looked incredible and elegant and helps so many vintage romance novels (and Nancy Drew books tbh) make sense!!
P.S. Is Dandy just the most talented human in the planet? I'm thoroughly convinced at this point. (Love all your outfits! 💜)
I loved your dresses... but... YOU ROCK THOSE SUITS!!!
All your work so payed off. So many great looks. Y'all must have had an experience of a lifetime. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Amazing!
The purple velvet dress suits you so beautifully. You look fantastic in everything, but you really shine in the dress.
Your comfortable and coordinated outfits ROCK!! You and your friends really enjoyed all modes of transportation on this trip. You might consider attending the 3 day Duckens On The Strand Victorian era here in Galveston, TX. It happens during the first weekend in December. Thanks for sharing.
Really fantastic travel wardrobe. Gorgeous purple and gold evening dresses. The black robe was fantastic.
Tfs 💗🙏🇨🇦
Very grateful for your content. The amazing ensembles spur the wish to be more creative!
Hello Nicole
Greetings from Ireland.
Thanks for taking us along.... Sweet
That Day 8 outfit is perfection. I am so in love with that jacket and all your waistcoats.
It was a ridiculously warm October.
Even our 20's weekend last week was pretty balmy.
Your wardrobe was incredible!!!
I never knew you or this channel existed. WOW, INCREDIBLE IN EVERY WAY! Love the era and what an incredible talent you are. I am HOOKED.
Marvelous! It feels wonderful to see people out enjoying themselves! I have to make myself more 'happy' clothes. Thank you!
I never knew there were vintage cruises, what a nifty idea and projects to make!
💜 the spreadsheets 🎉
Marvellous! You and your friends really looked like you had a good time.
I really love so many of these outfits! It looks so great! However, that robe. I need it. It is amazing.
Oh my goodness, what gorgeous outfits you put together! I love them all, but I especially love that glamourous black satin robe! 💖💖💖
I expected Bertie Wooster to appear any moment! Wonderful…
