A throw away comment that may be lost in the whole of this vlog meant the world to me! “Sometimes I’m a 10 to 12 and sometimes a 12 to 14”! Thank you 🙏🏻 for normalising our changing, healthy female bodies x
My daughter is 11 months old and I’ve definitely struggled with my mental health since becoming a mother. I’m alot better now but it was really tough. Thanks for sharing about your MH and well done for taking time off ❤
I have suffered with health anxiety for years, it’s been absolutely debilitating at times. I’d love a video about it, especially the techniques you’ve found that help. I’m so happy you are out the other side of it, most of the time I think that I am too ❤
I believe we are all going through frequent depression & anxiety stages and it's no wonder! Look how much harm we as a species do to other species, to our own and to the Planet itself (our only home)! The Earth is literally suffering and it is showing it to us in so many ways, but people choose to be ignorant and selfish and not care...HELL is on earth and it is man-made! 😔
Earlier this year I started treatment for ocd when my health anxiety became completely unmanageable after years of barely keeping it under control. I can very much relate to how you speak about your experience. Holding space for your healing journey. Thank you for processing with us.
I would definitely appreciate a video about health anxiety. I have definitely experienced a huge amount of OCD type issues and largely related to health, but when I try to explain it to people, including medical professionals, they don’t seem to see that it is a thing, like it doesn’t make sense to them. I am so glad to see in the comments that other people have felt this.
I'm in agreement with you Maddie about the trellis that cuts the garden in half... it cuts the eye off and you don't see the entirety of your garden! I remember you said you weren't fond of having so much grassy area, but I think it looks great to have a grassy center section that is useful for parties, games, dog play, children one day possibly, etc. Just my 2 cents, lol! 😊
Hello … glad to see you out and about … happy anniversary to you both! But gee, so sorry to hear of your ring Alex…but not to worry a thorough look for it sounds ideal … so sweet to get a temporary replacement … hopeful you find the real one in the future! …. Yes the Sunflowers are absolutely lovely! Your cottage is beautiful….thank you for sharing … I too will be celebrating my wedding anniversary this weekend! (35yrs) all the best to you both! Greetings from California! 🎉💐🌹😊
I must express my admiration for this video, a delightful fusion of vintage treasures, culinary artistry, literary insights, and a charming garden tour. Really loved that you talked about mental health, and your ability to seamlessly blend these diverse elements is truly inspiring. I cannot help but feel a special connection as we share the same name, and it warms my heart to witness your passion and talent shine through in each video. You bring a unique joy to us, and I eagerly wait for each new upload of your enchanting vlog.
I would love to hear more from you about health anxiety. I struggle with it as well, and have only just begun differentiating it from just "anxiety", and getting to know it more, to maybe finally find a way to heal the thoughts and behaviours that keep me in this vicious cycle of worying about my health constantly. Any support and a shared experience is worth a lot.
I'm not sure if anyone has commented already, but your palm tree is a trachycarpus fortunei. They're really tough. We have 2 in our garden in Essex. You can trim the old and tatty leaves off by cutting them off near the trunk. We trim the lower leaves off a couple of times a year. I think the weed growing up it might have been bindweed but it was hard to tell without a closer look. Hope this helps.
You could plant bulbs underneath the small trees behind the raised patio area. You could also plant bulbs that’s flower at different times so it’s full through the spring and into summer. That way you can situate the bench in the middle of the Flowers!
Yess!! Especially health anxiety and OCD. I was just diagnosed with OCD earlier this year and it turns out I've had it my whole life. It got reallllly bad during and after pregnancy. I didn't even realize the intensity of what OCD and health anxiety are. I wish people understood it more.
Would definitely love to watch a video where you talk about health anxiety. Just like you I continue to suffer from general anxiety and occasional health anxiety. I have also seen great therapists and feel better now than I did in the past, and I'm sure many of your viewers can benefit from hearing about your experience. Looking forward to that video! Btw, I've been following you on UA-cam for seven years now, and I'm always so excited when you post a new video. You always brighten up my day :) xx
The laurel hedge looks amazing! I can't believe what a difference it has made to the look of the backyard. The tree with the hairy trunk looks like a Windmill palm.
The trimming of the garden looks GREAT! It's a process and something that needs to be done yearly to keep the overgrowth away and keep the laurel healthy and leafy. If you put these off you get more of the robust stems/limbs and not as much of the leafy aspects of the garden I think you're after. So having it done on the regular will really help! Great progress!
Thanks Maddie! I too have had serious health anxiety especially over the last couple of years. Can understand when you say how it consumed your thoughts. It really is debilitating and difficult for others to understand. I’ve found Cherelle Thinks on UA-cam really helpful Thanks for sharing your story 🥰
Thankyou Maddie for the variety vlog , your garden looks so open and airy now, annual prune is a good maintenance thing for the hedges and trees. I think you have a fan palm , that can be pruned a little higher as they can be prickly / thorny. Good idea making a list that will be my takeaway from this vlog and mental health so important too.
Hello 😊 I experienced severe anxiety and couldn’t afford therapy and the NHS waiting list was one year. However, my GP suggested Headspace and it was a lifesaver… literally! I'm the same as a curly girl. I got bullied for my frizz. But my mum did not know how to look after curls. I'm now so ott with my daughters. There's so many books to empower curls now
Hi Maddie. I, too, lost my wedding band 24 years ago when my son was a baby. I was devastated, just like Alex. It was a freezing day, and we were out walking with the pram. I assumed it slipped off my finger in the cold. I retraced our steps, looking for it to no avail. One year later, the ring showed up. It had slipped off my finger in the cold as I'd thought, but under the baby's wool pram liner, from where I'd tucked him in snuggly. I couldn't believe it! That pram had been in and out of the car, and collapsed umpteen times for travel, and the ring was there waiting for me the whole time!! Alex's ring will show up in the house somewhere, I'm sure😊
Health anxiety is a real thing indeed. Keep discussing mental health as it’s so important and you explain it so well! I love your wee rants as it’s how I feel a lot of the time! 😂
Double check your washing machine for the ring. We bought a house recently and bought the washing machine from the previous owners. During one of the first few times we used it their ring they had lost popped out when I was transferring the clothes to the dryer
So wonderful and beautifully blessed you two are so blessed to be able to be able to afford to live a work for such a beautiful home so happy for you two please don’t forget where your blessing come from I totally love what you have done so far just beautiful love your comfort cooking and everything lol continue blessing to you both long long time viewer 😘🌻
I've been dealing with the all consuming health anxiety lately and I know my job was contributing. I've changed jobs to a much better situation and it's gotten so much better. ❤
When I feel like I'm not going to make my reading goal I start reading books that are like 100 -200 page short stories. It still counts as a book but obviously you can bang one out in a day super fast. Same with a graphic novels. All reading is good reading so don't be hard on yourself if you don't reach the goal. ❤
My husband mysteriously lost his wedding ring three months in! He took it off in our house before surgery and it was never seen again. We’ve moved twice since then and finally decided it was for sure gone and decided to replace. lol sometimes things just grow legs!
Glad you are doing well, garden looks even bigger now the trees and bushes have had a haircut, looks great, things will get done dont put to much pressure on yourself it is all coming together nicely, by the patio to hide it you could have big pots of things until you do something permanent, good idea with the handbag if you love your bags, take care xx
I think your listeners appreciate your honesty about all aspects of your life ..... I moved from California to the great Northwest US (live across the water from Seattle) .... the long, dark, winters really affect me and I miss the energy one gets from sunny blue skies! Think I'll start taking a vacation in Jan/Feb to break up that long, dark period!
Dearest Madeleine it’s wonderful to listen to you talk about mental health and how you are coping. I also suffer from a form of depression at times and anxiety. It got worse during Covid and even now I hate being in crowded places or around to many people in general. My circle of friends that I have seen in the past have gotten smaller too. Before C I’d get together with friends for lunch or dinner, more free at getting out and doing stuff and taking day trips, but now don’t as a rule I’m home. Being retired Covid put a stop to any travel… I’m 75 now and Covid is still a thing and cases on the rise too, so going too far is not an option. It’s wonderful you got away and had a rest too. Happy first year anniversary to you and Alex, this year went by so quickly. The Sunflowers are gorgeous. You look wonderful. Thank you for sharing… your nails are beautiful. Have a great week. Hugs and love from Northern California xo Love your stir fry. Can you tell me what brand your garlic press is please? ❤
Oh Madeleine I can totally relate I asked my husband if he needed directions to the brake the other day x Why do they react soooo slowly ?! We have been having this conversation for almost 30 years 😂Love the honesty in your vlogs. Love to you both and Happy Anniversary here’s to many more happy years together x Good luck with the ring hunt, fingers crossed 🤞 you find it. Xxxx
Didn't expect a throwback to the extremely straight hair, pale lips, full face just for school era 😂😂 But yes it was a big thing. I didn't do it but most of my friends did it and they woke up at least 2h earlier to do it. And where I am from, we don't have school uniforms so the outfits were wild too. Thank you for opening up about your mental health. It's refreshing to see creators open up and be honest about it. I think it's something most of us deal with to an extent but never talk about it and it ends up with everyone thinking they are the minority that experiences mental health issues. I think it's helpful for everyone to talk more about it and share their experiences and of course how they are dealing with it.
Happy Anniversary.! 12 yrs together I so enjoy seeing you two together, now hearing your struggles, and figuring Alex has been with you, I love that crazy boy even more. So happy you feel you can handle what comes your way with the items in your "tool kit". Listening to you talk about your school days, have you seen the movie...Girls just want have fun...if not I think you'd really like it, if you could find it. Lastly, your garden looks so nice, really look forward to seeing your plans for it, gardening is my favorite summer job. You guys have a wonderful weekend.
Hearing you speak so openly about your Health anxiety journey has made me and I am sure a whole host of other people feel seen and heard. I really wish people were more honest because when we hear other people speak we feel less alone
Madeleine, I wanted to encourage you to make a cookbook that reflects your life in Cornwall. I am vegan but a huge part of why I watch your vids is because of your life there~ the lovely home & artful decor & Cornish landscape & towns, etc. It is unique to you and your story. Maybe your next cookbook could incorporate more of your aesthetic and life there. It really is beautiful and special and I would love to see that in a book!
I think your so brave to do this to help people well done to you I have been there when I was in my early 20 when stuff happened in my life but I am now 70 but it helps to talk and have good solid friends to get you through and family 🐝🐝🍎
I also have curly hair and had no idea how to take care of it when I was young. For several years in my early teens, I kept it pulled back in a tight bun. Then one day I was at school and took down the bun and let my hair fully dry and go curly and I got a zillion compliments. After that I started wearing it down and experimenting with how to take care of it. Though I did also still straighten it a lot because I was obsessed with Cher’s hair from the 60s and 70s and wanted mine to be very long and straight like hers. Lol!
Hi maddie my husband and I had matching rings made and he lost it when putting garden rubbish in the container at the tip when his hands were cold in the winter the ring fell in and he couldn’t retrieve it. That was many years ago and we still haven’t replaced it. He was very upset at the time. I must surprise him and get another made for him. Peace 🧚🏻♀️
you are a blessing never forget that!!!!! you are so righted to tell yourself that and know that. wish you two the best. times will get better, don’t worry 💖
I've developed bad anxiety in the last year, specifically health anxiety. I think, like yourself, it was triggered a little my covid, but my husband and I were in a car accident, no one was harmed thankfully, and then I had really bad sciatica so a mix of everything seems to have just got on top of me. I'm in the process of arranging CBT through my private healthcare so I'm hoping that will help. I appreciate you talking about your experience as it resonates so much. Much love 💙
Just last night, I was venting to my husband about hating my body. I have a long torso and short legs and a very prominent pear shape so finding medium dresses for example, usually results in me feeling hopeless. And insecure. But watching you buy trousers even though most of them don’t fit has really helped me love my shape and celebrate with finding clothes that fit me, not trying to fit myself in clothes. Thank you for being honest, Maddy ❤
oh, i'm so sorry about alex' ring disappearing. i'm so sorry :( i had something similar happen. i bought myself a fidget ring earlier this year to keep my hands busy and one day i woke up and it wasn't on my finger. i haven't found it since and i already tidied so many times since then and looked in and behind all the furniture, it's bizarre. after looking for ages on the first day it was gone, i told myself to just accept it was gone. otherwise i'd just be stressed out all the time. i still think about it sometimes and wonder what happened.
@@MadeleineOlivia thank you :) i really hope alex' turns up too. it was the first time i ever bought myself a ring and it had gold beads on it, so it was very special to me (not as special as a wedding ring of course). very spooky
Thanks so much for opening up and sharing about mental health. It is SUCH an important topic and the more it is talked about, the less of a taboo it is. I know most people eventually only seek out professional help when it is no longer possible or tolerable to deal with things alone. In my case, panic attacks forced me to confront what was going on in my life. What you said about gaining the 'tools' or skills to deal with anxiety or depression is also so important. I feel like therapy has also helped me understand and identify my behaviour and what could be triggering for me. It is an ongoing process and challenge and there will be times of regression. I really wish you so much courage on your journey as not every day is the same. Thank you so much! I'm sure your honest will help other young women.
My husband and I currently live in England, I grew up in Canada (he here in England) where not many friends wore make-up ... then & now if waking early one could catch some extra reading time ... I did used to wear mascara when attending classes to darken my lashes as they are blonde (invisible) as is my hair ... no one much cared ... it was how you were that was important, not how you looked ...
I so appreciate you always being so candid and honest ❤️ Thank you for sharing a peek into you life and how helpful you've found therapy. It's such an important conversation ❤
Maddie, I have just come to realize that you are my stress relief!!! When I am having a day, your vlog, YOU are what I turn to get back on track! Thank you for everything. Keep doing what you are doing. ❤️
Re Alex’s ring, perhaps it’s outside with all the garden work you’ve been doing? Maybe you could try using a metal detector? That being said, my hubby lost his ring after about 12 years and then went and just ordered a new stainless steel one online that cost a few bucks and he’s worn that for the last 6 years! It does the job just fine and looks the same as an expensive one 😊
Thanks as always for your honesty, you are so relatable. I think I will listen to Think Like a Monk again, it was so good first time round - so thanks for mentioning it. Yoga retreat sounds amazing! Lovely vlog as always. Be interested in any anxiety focused vlogs - health etc. Have a good week ❤
Yes please a health anxiety video would be helpful , I’ve suffered all my adult life , I have good and bad patches but when it’s at its worst it consumes my whole life , thank you for sharing your own struggles it makes people realise they are not alone ☺️x
I’m not that tall (5’6”) but I have a short torso and not much waist definition. All my height comes from my legs. I have very little success in the women’s department when looking for pants. I find it so easy to find the right lengths in the men’s section and I’ve learned quick tailoring tricks so it’s no issue for me to take in the waist and hem the legs if need be. I find that looking for pants with a higher rise in men’s pants can result in quite a high waist as well. They dont have “High waisted” for men but they have always had variety in the rise and it’s surprisingly easy to find them. Just a suggestion for your consideration from one long legged, little waist definition gal to another 😊
Hey sis, I would love to know more about your experience with Health Anxiety! I've always grown up with one medical thing after another and I feel that since covid my anxiety has gotten a lot worse when it comes to any little things that comes up that has to do with my health. I find myself crying and having a full-blown panic attack. I nowadays also hyperventilate and rock back and forth and have to wear a cardigan to help me calm down because it feels like someone is holding me.. which is helpful because I have no friends or family in my life. I had a feeling that yes I probably have anxiety.. but I didn't know there are different kinds like "Health Anxiety", and now watching your video I'm definitely going to get some therapy etc. to help me learn how to cope with this as it's gotten in the way of most of my daily living.. which is better than my doctors one-stop option of going straight onto depression and anxiety pills and that's it. I'm not saying it's bad to take depression and anxiety pills... just that I'd like to try all the other options that are out there before I start taking medication. So yes, please do make another video on Health Anxiety I would love to know and learn more about it and your perspective. Oh and can you maybe write "Health Anxiety" in the thumbnail? Mostly cuz I will miss the video if it's not visibly mentioned somewhere in the Title or thumbnail - also I pick and choose if I want to watch a video.. if the thumbnail or title doesn't tell me enough or intrigue me I don't watch the video... so if its mentioned somewhere I for sure won't miss it and will watch it! But thanks so much for this video as I'm now more aware of my anxiety type and can research more and work towards helping myself and getting better 🌹 - Sorry I wrote so much 😅
I'm listening to you talk about getting ready for school. What on earth are doll shoes? I've never heard of them so I thought maybe they are an English thing (I'm Aussie), or perhaps I'm not the right vintage being that I'm in my 70s. My 16yo granddaughter is into wearing false eyelashes everywhere, and some makeup. She has the most amazingly thick curling eyelashes naturally, and lovely skin. My daughter is getting fed up with finding the eyelashes everywhere in the house. Back in the early 60s when I was in high school it was Mods and Rockers, and Surfies. I was never game enough to be into any of them but had a friend who was a Rocker. Hello from Queensland where it's getting hotter, is very dry and bush fires are already a thing. I'm not looking forward to summer.
Has Alex been wearing gloves? I wonder if his ring may have got caught in the fingers of a glove. That happened to my Dad years ago. He was painting and too his rubber glove off. Later he realised the ring wasn’t on his finger. He searched everywhere but it was only the next time he put that glove on that the ring went back in his finger.
Your story about makeup reminded me of a time when I got told off by my physics teacher for wearing red eyeshadow when I actually just had an eye infection 😂😂
I lost my wedding ring within the first year due to it coming off during a uber journey and unfortunately the taxi firm i called and the driver said they could not find it (i had it on before i went in the taxi and noticed just after I was dropped off). When I got my new ring, anytime I looked down at it I would feel really sad knowing it wasnt the same ring I got married with, but eventually fell in love with my new one. I realised the memories of the wedding are not attached to the ring, but to my husband who I married :) p.s. i would love a health anxiety video on the tools that helped you ❤
It baffles me why there's still so much stigma around mental health issues. Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health...actually they go hand in hand. I think health affirmations might help you...Bob Baker has a 10 minute one that's wonderful ❤
I wanted to mention: I lost a treasured ring and found it in the rubber rib around the washing machine. Apparently pulling wet clothes out of the machine, lubricated my finger sufficiently for it to slip off. Next load pushed it into the rim. Can’t remember if you have a front loading washer but if you do, you have a rubber rim with a space for lint to collect. Please look there.
I remember that in high school I would go to bathroom on every break to powder my face. Seems so ridiculous now. But it was a different time, glowy skin was definitely not a trend.
I so relate to your conflicting opinions on the handbag struggle, made me giggle as I’m nodding along in agreement 😂, the bag is really beautiful. Your vision for the garden is sounding lovely, it so nice that you are able to take your time to plan and consider exactly how you want it to look and grow and it’s already gorgeous x

I have health anxiety too, so it's really helped to hear you talk about it.

I am the same way about mushrooms. I put a little salt on them as soon as they hit the pan, helps them release their moisture and cook faster. :)
Your 'tropical' tree is a palm tree and the climbing weed around it was bindweed.
Thanks for talking about health anxiety and OCD. ❤

Hugs and love from Northern California xo
Love your stir fry.
Can you tell me what brand your garlic press is please? ❤
that handbag is gorgeous!! i love the gold hardware
Thank you so much! I love it too!
Xxxx
Love your channel ❤ the best vintage shops for 80 and 90s is in Amsterdam 😊 I could spend my life shopping in them ❤
Hi Madeleine, would it be possible for you to share more of the help you receive from your therapist?
I think your honesty is refreshing and very helpful to people of all ages. Your garden looks fantastic
Thank you xxx
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
❤Happy Anniversary Maddie and Alex. Lovely you had a week to yourselves.A ring is just a ring your lovely relationship means the most.🎉😊
I think your so brave to do this to help people well done to you I have been there when I was in my early 20 when stuff happened in my life but I am now 70 but it helps to talk and have good solid friends to get you through and family 🐝🐝🍎
Lol!
Loved the Heartbreaker when I was in my early forties.
Much love 💙
Just an idea.Look in the washing machine filter for the ring. xxx
I really hope we both find our rings eventually! Get yourself a new one though for sure and hopefully the other one will eventually turn up
@@MadeleineOlivia thank you :) i really hope alex' turns up too. it was the first time i ever bought myself a ring and it had gold beads on it, so it was very special to me (not as special as a wedding ring of course).
Maddie this was a lovely video. It made a variety of things. Yes mental health is very important. Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤
Would love to hear about health anxiety❤❤❤
It’s in the list!
Those cards are beautiful ❤
My husband and I currently live in England, I grew up in Canada (he here in England) where not many friends wore make-up ... then & now if waking early one could catch some extra reading time ... I did used to wear mascara when attending classes to darken my lashes as they are blonde (invisible) as is my hair ... no one much cared ... it was how you were that was important, not how you looked ...
I so appreciate you always being so candid and honest ❤️ Thank you for sharing a peek into you life and how helpful you've found therapy. It's such an important conversation ❤
That black dress shows off your creamy complexion and your eyes in a lovely way. Your mail color is wonderful! Great blog today! Thank you.
Glad to see you back. Glad to hear that you are doing good
Maddie, I have just come to realize that you are my stress relief!!! When I am having a day, your vlog, YOU are what I turn to get back on track! Thank you for everything. Keep doing what you are doing. ❤️
The Book Thief is in my top 5 fabourite books ever read 💛
Re Alex’s ring, perhaps it’s outside with all the garden work you’ve been doing? Maybe you could try using a metal detector? That being said, my hubby lost his ring after about 12 years and then went and just ordered a new stainless steel one online that cost a few bucks and he’s worn that for the last 6 years! It does the job just fine and looks the same as an expensive one 😊
Oh yes please to hearing about your health anxiety and the encouragement that it doesn’t have to paralyse me!
Pixie woo 😊- my daughters loved those makeup shows
Yes please a health anxiety video would be helpful , I’ve suffered all my adult life , I have good and bad patches but when it’s at its worst it consumes my whole life , thank you for sharing your own struggles it makes people realise they are not alone ☺️x
Just a suggestion for your consideration from one long legged, little waist definition gal to another 😊
I would be interested in you ding a video on health anxiety.
Have a good day .
Good Luck .
I love your videos, your are so real. ❤
Could the ring be outside somewhere? Given what you’ve done with veg garden??
Has Alex been wearing gloves? I wonder if his ring may have got caught in the fingers of a glove. That happened to my Dad years ago. He was painting and too his rubber glove off. Later he realised the ring wasn’t on his finger. He searched everywhere but it was only the next time he put that glove on that the ring went back in his finger.
Maddie, when you talk about anxiety, what do you mean exactly? There are different forms of anxiety. Would be great to do a video on that.
I have generalised anxiety disorder as well as health anxiety! Plus body dysmorphia and emotional/binge eating 🙃🥲
@@MadeleineOliviaI'd recommend @TherapyinaNutshell
She offers wise and common sense advice on mental health.
Your story about makeup reminded me of a time when I got told off by my physics teacher for wearing red eyeshadow when I actually just had an eye infection 😂😂
Oh god hahaha red eyeshadow would be a questionable choice
Yes please do the episode about health anxiety
Blue with a cream trim 😃
The tree is a Trachycarpus or a fan palm
what is the size of your (back)garden? I´m looking at houses but find it really hard to imagine what sizes the gardens are..
I went to public school in the US with no uniform but I wanted saddle shoes SO BADLY (that’s what all the private school girls had to wear in the US)
I wanted to mention: I lost a treasured ring and found it in the rubber rib around the washing machine. Apparently pulling wet clothes out of the machine, lubricated my finger sufficiently for it to slip off. Next load pushed it into the rim. Can’t remember if you have a front loading washer but if you do, you have a rubber rim with a space for lint to collect. Please look there.
Sugar also comes from a plant; its called sugar cane. Brown sugar is healthier than maple syrup.
yeah.sugar cane or sugar beet which is more common in europe
I remember that in high school I would go to bathroom on every break to powder my face. Seems so ridiculous now. But it was a different time, glowy skin was definitely not a trend.
I so relate to your conflicting opinions on the handbag struggle, made me giggle as I’m nodding along in agreement 😂, the bag is really beautiful. Your vision for the garden is sounding lovely, it so nice that you are able to take your time to plan and consider exactly how you want it to look and grow and it’s already gorgeous x
