@@topglock I was like wow this is amazing but dang it’s heavy. For the hell of it I ordered a PM2 even though I thought it was an ugly knife. Turns out I much preferred it. Best pocket knife ever made. More ergonomic, lighter, cuts better. Sent the shaman back

Just ordered one. Thought I would watch a review about it while i wait for mine (wanted one for a long time, but finally was able to pull it off). Fun to watch a throwback metal complex video!
I love the Manix and even if something is better I still love my Manix and it gets its pocket time. I kept hoping for a sprint Shaman but I'm not waiting anymore. I'm ready to just use one.
GOAT You described the Big Banter as a master class in ergonomics but it’s the Shaman. Big Banter is awesome, one of my favourites so not bashing it. But the Shaman is perfection and is the true masterclass in ergonomics.
I don't like most of the spydies with the "hole hump" in the blade, which is why the Paras didn't do it for me, the leaf shape, when wide enough, IS appealing to me, as is the compression lock, but with steel and handle, I can't see spending that much.....ymmv, and I will keep an eye on other versions of the Shaman that I'm sure will be coming !!
Just got my second Shaman today (05/04/2023). Unlike my first one, this one came perfectly centered, had no blade movement and was drop shut out of the box. Loving it. 😊
I just ordered one from Scheels after discovering how great this knife is...I paid $210 I believe? If this knife is as good as everyone makes it out to be I think it will still be worth it at that price. I couldn't find one new anywhere else....completely sold out. Just to compare you're paying $175 for a standard Benchmade 940...with that you get meh QC, aluminum handles, axis lock, and an S30V blade. I think the extra $45 is worth the contoured G-10 handles alone but you're also getting a nicely stonewashed blade, compression lock, forward choil, nested steel liners, and better QC. This thing is a steal when it was released for the original price...I can't even imagine how great a sprint run would be.
Just got my all-black Shaman from DLT thanks to you. Paid more than I should but so far I love it. It's heavier than I expected, but I ain't mad. Thanks!
Just picked one up for $225. :( but oh my goodness, is a chonky boi. (in a good way) the PM2 is a better fidget toy and EDC. If I knew I had to go chop down a tree to make an emergency shelter or work on a construction site, the Shaman would definitely be in my pocket. The PM2 is surprisingly smoother and thinner, but the Shaman feels like a beast in hand.
Talk about being late to the party... I just picked one up and popped a vid online the other day. I might not have bought one on looks alone although I think it’s an ok looking knife the clincher for me was the feel in my hand much like your self it was like a bell rung lol. So far I’m loving it other then a few minor things I will take care of once I get my office back. Take care stay safe and love the channel buddy.
2023 these are now $230😐 Spyderco have priced themselves out for me. Not because I can't afford it, but because they've raised the price almost $100?! I cannot justify supporting a company that does that.
I've been so close to ordering the dlc version of this. I was all set before seeing how much these used to be. I mean is it honestly worth $225 for the dlc version?
As a man looking at and trying to convince myself I don't need a blacked out Shaman with a Lynch clip that costs 251 dollars I'm a little "perturbed" that it was apparently 135 dollars just 3 or 4 years ago!😤
the price hike argument is tough for me. People are constantly asking companies to increase quality and dont want to pay for higher quality and more attention to detail. the shaman is a great example of a company trying to go above and beyond (stonewashed blade/ clip, round-over on g10, thicker blade stock) to appease the critics, and then get bashed for charging $20 more for these features.
Great review, which all of yours are. This specific review however was so well detailed in everything I needed to know decide on the Shaman, which has been a long debate for me between the para2 , manix2, and this Shaman. Ultimately for me, the ergos of the handle with those contours and less jimping than the manix were the deal sealer for me. I really want a sprint run to release though cuz Im not a fan of black handles... just remind me of plain old kitchen knives. Not sure how long I can hold out waiting for one though
Probably too late...but I can tell you the PM2 comes with some fairly grippy g10 scales. shaman has smooth g10. This actually makes it a little hard to close left hand only. Other than that, shaman is a little thicker, heavier, and is closer to a drop point vs the pm2 clip point.
@@NS-nt4cw I put my DLC M4 on layaway on August 31, should ship to me on Oct 1. I tried to resist due to the $259 price ($283 with tax) but it was still available when I got paid. Awesome looking knife. I can’t bring myself to spend big money on a knife mainly because I suck at knife sharpening. Just not cost effective for me to spend $180 for a disposable knife.
So overpriced. That's what Spyderco does. They make really great knives for actual knife users, then overcharge for them. Explain which steel is "much better" than M4, and why. Also explain why that element in steel is creating a higher value for you. Lots of empty spots in your comment.
@@metal_complex I think you misunderstood my comment. I was saying that M4 is a much better steel than S30V... The gist of my comment: Any version of the Shaman at this point is overpriced, but if you're going to buy one then you might as well get a great steel (M4) for only $15 more than the base (S30V). Still overpriced? Yes.. But easier to justify.
@@MFRiley again, you're automatically assuming M4 is in some magical "higher tier" over S30V. It isn't. S30V is still nearly as expensive as M4 to purchase through crucible. For some, M4's non stainless nature will be an instant "no" because of the environment it'll be used in. I actually prefer a choil over extra cutting edge. 99% of the time, my cutting needs can be met with only 2 inches of blade. So for me, the Shaman is WAY overkill. But, when I'm at home breaking down thick cardboard boxes, I want to be able to get right up next to the edge because the pressure I'm applying is much more easily transferred to the thickness of the cardboard than on a blade with no choil, and my finger 0.5" further back on the handle.
