6 months later I saw them open for Judas Priest at The Nassau Coliseum NY June 8 1986. My first concert ever. Just a few years ago I had the privilege to open for Lynch Mob and got to talk to Him about that tour. Awesome experience
The guy saying Don's voice is weak, if you listened to lost behind the wall, he really let's his power out on that one, I can really hear the power, he just didn't use it when not necessary.
I went to a Dokken concert in 1986 in Ionia, Michigan and tried to take photos. They sent security into the crowd to take the camera then said one more picture , we get booted out! Great job!
I met Don at a show in Hollywood in the 90's. He started to act up and I told him that the fans make the band. Nice as pie after that. I do believe it may have been pivotal in his change today...much better tude.
Well...monsters of rock 1988...had George Lynch, Kirk Hammet, Eddie Van Halen and more...they are all great, Van Helen would be considered the best in most peoples eyes.
b4ihang Strange wings will balance dreams upon the edge of thorns, and if I go away, the labyrinths will bring about my last dawn, and the wind sings the prelude to madness, this was the price I paid....to dwell in the hall of the mountain king..
EXCELLENT!!! I've been looking for live footage of the Under Lock And Key tour for nearly a quarter-century!!! Rattmaster86, WE SALUTE YOU!!! By any chance, do you have any footage of Dio, W.A.S.P., Accept, or Loudness that year??
@Reg197844 If it makes you feel any better, my band at the time was recording a demo at prairie sun studios, and the tech there said that George was there a week earlier to lay down his solos on the LA Blues Authority CD, and said george was fucking sloppy as all hell, ha ha..Now I love George dearly, and pretty much stole his vibrato...I've met him on a few occasions and he's always been nice, but it was also brief interactions, so who knows? Gong to his clinic next week, ahhhh yeah!!
@TruthSurge I see, and I agree with you as much as his voice is not always consistently strong, especially in concert. Don is a thick head because he smokes and does not bother to help himself. I also think he started singing to please fans instead of singing from the heart. That said, I still say he is one of the best voices in the studio recordings. Shame he can't do more about himself.
@TruthSurge Weak? How do you figure? Aren't you just really comparing him to Lynch? Dokken is one of the few voices I could ever tolerate and one of the few in rock who actually has some understanding of melody.
@b4ihang Yeah, you can see he put on weight in some vids. I never was a fan too much of musicians to the point I knew anything about their personal lives. For me, it was all about the music and sounds I was hearing. I never knew Halford or Mercury were gay until prob like 10 years ago. 20 years of music by guys who separated themselves from the pack and to me that was the main thing. Their sexual preference was meaningless to me. But I was a big Dokken fan.
@Reg197844 I've never heard he was a jerk, it just seems he's a little strange and hard to work with though. And to Rattmaster, Lynch is a better guitarist than Van Halen in my opinion.
Great raw vid, would have been better to see Lynch going off a bit instead nof Don dancing around like a fruit? None the less they were wicked back then...
Norum , Levin , Reb all had played so much better live. Ntm their tone is Fuller , heavier , tighter , more resonant , bigger , razor sharp and actually play the solos as they're recorded night after night . Lynch has such a twangy irritating lead channel . You can use the bridge pickup and sound incredible . All of Dokkens other guitarist have and do . Not sure what's with George not being able to hack the same solo twice .
@b4ihang Weak meaning no power behind it. He's hitting the notes and it sounds cool but even the bass player can outsing him. Go listen to some Dio and compare. Dokken has a whiny quality to him. I didn't say he sucked. Just not any real power in his voice.
this is so awesome i so miss the 80's and this music i just love it so addicted to don dokken

That was 21 days before dons 36th birthday

Wow, so did you keep the camera? Hard to believe somebody was able to film the whole show with security that tight.
never gets old :)
Played the shit out of this album

Thanks for posting this!
He was cool when I met him backstage at Irvine Meadows in '86.
@ultramanhayata1 I've pretty much got everybody from 1986, Ratt, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Dio, Loudness, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Guns N Roses, Metallica...
What could have been before grunge took over. IMO, one of the best bands ever.
This is right on the money 🔥🤘🏻
I was there, Joe Louis Arena, they opened for Dio

@Rattmaster86 You're not kidding, and kudos on the Savatage!

Met George recently. May have been a jerk in Dokken's heyday, but now, he's a hell of a nice guy!
Twisted Sister

@Rattmaster86 Van Halen was innovative but he never really got too amazing, compared to guys like lynch, yngwie, reb, and vai

WOw this is a Spinal Tap moment, too much fog on the fog machine broham!

@Reg197844 I met George and he was really nice on the other hand I met Don Dokken and he was arrogant and not very friendly at all!
Don's voice was always weak. LIsten how weak he does the first one b4 the song starts. He "just got lucky" when he hooked up with George Lynch.

Guess that all depends as I always understood Don was a real tool as well as being a drunk with a huge ego.....
