Guimarães Portugal

Guimarães is one of the most important historical cities in Portugal, playing a crucial role in its formation as a country. It has been in existence for over a millennium, and its historic center has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2001, which definitely makes it one of the largest tourist centers in the region. Its streets and monuments breathe history and enchant those who visit it.
The Castle of Guimarães was built in the 10th century by the Countess Mumadona to defend the population from the attacks of the Muslims, and was built after the walls of Guimarães.
The Palace of the Dukes of Bragança, built in the 15th century by D. Afonso, 1st Duke of Bragança, and which, due to its later abandonment, would be rebuilt in the 1930s.
The Chapel of São Miguel do Castelo is a late-Romanesque chapel, built in the 13th century, where, according to legend, D. Afonso Henriques was baptized.
